When The Blues Came Rolling By (Larry W Jones 12/09/2018) (song #7401)

In the quiet of the night I heard the door open light
An hour later I heard that lonesome whistle moan and cry
She was on the midnight outbound as it was leaving town
Our true love ended that night when the blues came rolling by

Now every night when that fast train comes rolling by
I give a sigh for the price my heart had to pay
I recall every day the night she went away
My heart paid its dues when the blues came rolling by

(Instrumental)

In the quiet of the night I heard stepping on the floor
Soon the quiet silence that I heard grew into a roar
That lonesome midnight train whistle blew and that’s when I knew
My whole world grew cold and dark when the blues came rolling by

Now every night when that fast train comes rolling by
I give a sigh for the price my heart had to pay
I recall every day the night she went away
My heart paid its dues when the blues came rolling by

I recall every day the night she went away
My heart paid its dues when the blues came rolling by

Larry s Song (Larry W Jones 12/13/2018) (song #7402)

Why are rainbows painting after the raining from above
Why is there no constraining when you’re entertaining love
Why is the air so airy and without a care of wrong
It must be Larry’s song

What makes a girly with hair so curly go paint the town
Why do drakes make mistakes for a silly goose goose’s down
Why does a chicken get her kick in when the rooster’s home
It must be Larry’s song

Hear now, hear now, there’s something a-coming near around now
If you don’t know it you can show it by singing along
Silver screen actors calls it a factor for pleasing throngs
It must be Larry’s song

(Instrumental)

Why are rainbows painting after the raining from above
Why is there no constraining when you’re entertaining love
Why is the air so airy and without a care of wrong
It must be Larry’s song

What makes a girly with hair so curly go paint the town
Why do drakes make mistakes for a silly goose goose’s down
Why does a chicken get her kick in when the rooster’s home
It must be Larry’s song

Why is the air so airy and without a care of wrong

Ocean Empty Of Love (Larry W Jones 12/15/2018) (song #7403)

The waves of the ocean no longer wave to me
Not even a notion of love for me

Ocean empty of love, her arms I can’t access
I hold this emptiness, deep and cold I confess
I’ve lost my dove in the ocean I’m speaking of
Ocean empty of love

When did I lose her in the gale
I’m so confused how love could fail

Ocean empty of love, her arms I can’t access
I hold this emptiness, deep and cold I confess
I’ve lost my dove in the ocean I’m speaking of
Ocean empty of love

(Instrumental)

When did I lose her in the gale
I’m so confused how love could fail

Oh how I wish to win her love again
And sail back to where our new love began
So who will rescue me from this ocean
Someone with love’s devotion surely can

Ocean empty of love, your arms I can’t access
I hold this emptiness, deep and cold I confess
I’ve lost my dove in the ocean I’m speaking of
Ocean empty of love

Deep Wooded Holler (Larry W Jones 12/17/2018) (song #7404)

Well, I’d rather live in a deep wooded holler
Where the live oak trees won’t allow the sun to shine
Than to know that somehow you could love another
When you said that you would vow to always be mine

I now sleep in a deep wooded holler
And when I awake I can find no rest
Every hour it seems my world gets smaller
Every time my poor heart beats in my chest

Dear, in my deep wooded holler you are welcome
If you’re not wedded you can rightly come herein
Here in my poor heart dear I will always love you
For you know that it was your love I tried to win

(Instrumental)

I now sleep in a deep wooded holler
And when I awake I can find no rest
Every hour it seems my world gets smaller
Every time my poor heart beats in my chest

Dear, in my deep wooded holler you are welcome
If you’re not wedded you can rightly come herein
Here in my poor heart dear I will always love you
For you know that it was your love I tried to win

April Showers (Larry W Jones 12/19/2018) (song #7405)

Now, a cowboy’s life ain’t filled with flowers
When April comes the skies can rain for hours
And sometimes he feels like he’s done been whipped
But here’s one thing that cowboy may have skipped

Though April showers rain on purple sage
May flowers will cover the prairie stage
Don’t worry cause an April shower knows
In May will grow a field of prairie rose

(Instrumental)

Now, when a cowboy sees clouds down the trail
He knows April rains will come without fail
But the cowboy will sing his western song
While with April showers he rides along

Though April showers rain on purple sage
May flowers will cover the prairie stage
Don’t worry cause an April shower knows
In May will grow a field of prairie rose

Tiny House In Tiny Town (Larry W Jones 12/20/2018) (song #7406)

My office is big and shiny
And I work here from nine to five
It’s flawless but I like tiny
Where I came from I felt alive

It was only a tiny house in Tiny town
But the place was tidy and never was run down
The rooms were tiny and the town was tiny too
Folks treated me kindly and I never felt blue

It was only my tiny house in Tiny town

(Instrumental)

I would give up this big office
And my work here from nine to five
Spend all dollars in my wallet
And back to Tiny town I’d drive

It was only a tiny house in Tiny town
But the place was tidy and never was run down
The rooms were tiny and the town was tiny too
Folks treated me kindly and I never felt blue

It was only my tiny house in Tiny town

For Me Or For No One At All (Larry W Jones 12/21/2018) (song #7407)

Just part of your heart will not do
For me or for no one at all
It’s all of me for all of you
For me or for no one at all

When it comes to love come my way
Someone in between is a wall
In truth here’s all I have to say
For me or for no one at all

For me or for no one at all

(Instrumental)

Don’t place your kiss on just my cheek
Having bliss is not a close call
Eyes of love means not just a peek
For me or for no one at all

Dear if I fell under your spell
Catch me in your arms when I fall
It’s with me I want you to dwell
For me or for no one at all

For me or for no one at all

So Long Pal (Larry W Jones 12/22/2018) (song #7408)

Well, it’s time to say adios and so long pal
You have been the best old horse in this here locale
I’ve cared well for you and it’s hard to say goodbye
So long pal and I will miss you as time goes by

So long pal, go out to pasture with no horse shoes
So long pal, you now can capture new peaceful views
Now, I can see the understanding in your face
So long pal, no cayuse can ever take your place

(Instrumental)

Well, so long pal, we’ve been together many years
Recall that bad trail drive before the weather cleared
So you know before you go to the big corral
Remember you I always shall so, so long pal

So long pal, go out to pasture with no horse shoes
So long pal, you now can capture new peaceful views
Now, I can see the understanding in your face
So long pal, no cayuse can ever take your place

So you know before you go to the big corral
Remember you I always shall so, so long pal

Deep Purple (Larry W Jones 12/25/2018) (song #7409)

When deep purple twilight falls with all its might
And the moon spreads its beams for all in the night
Then I will recall the fairest of them all
When in reverie you tiptoe back to me in dreams

When deep purple twilight falls with all its might
I will see you come in sight and to my arms
Our hearts will beat as one as they once have done
When in reverie you tiptoe back to me in dreams

(Instrumental)

When deep purple twilight falls with all its might
That wall of mist will disappear with you near
Then we will be as one as the day is done
When in reverie you tiptoe back to me in dreams

When deep purple twilight falls with all its might
And the moon spreads its beams for all in the night
Then I will recall the fairest of them all
When in reverie you tiptoe back to me in dreams

When deep purple twilight falls

Spring Roundup Time (Larry W Jones 12/26/2018) (song #7410)

When it’s spring roundup time along the Texas Trail
Cowboys will be bringing young dogies in
They’ll be telling tall Texas tales bigger than whales
While drinking coffee by the cattle pens

Coyotes will howl at the silver Texas moon
While cowboys try to get some earned shut-eye
For when daylight comes they’ll put on their chaps and guns
It’s spring roundup time under Texas skies

(Instrumental)

There’s a big herd of beef that can bring cowboys grief
And horses to tame with a Texas brand
When it’s spring roundup time along the Texas Trail
Cowboys ride tall like a rancher’s top hand

They’ll draw their pay at the end of the cattle drive
And buy some new duds at the mercantile
When it’s spring roundup time along the Texas Trail
Cowboys are in their prime and tough as steel

When it’s spring roundup time along the Texas Trail
Cowboys are in their prime and tough as steel

This Glass Of Rye (Larry W Jones 12/26/2018) (song #7411)

This glass of rye just won’t run dry
Like she did in running away
The words she said run in my head
Holding this glass of rye today

This glass of rye has eased the pain
That seized my heart and made it burn
This glass of rye now finds that I
Have a lot of living to learn

(Instrumental)

This glass of rye just won’t run dry
Like she did in running away
The words she said run in my head
Holding this glass of rye today

This glass of rye was to the brim
When I filled it shortly ago
Soon I will teach my heart to swim
Before it drowns in sorrow’s flow

This glass of rye just won’t run dry
I’ll fill it up right to the brim

A Lifetime To Forget (Larry W Jones 01/30/2019) (song #7412)

Now I find myself alone and broken hearted
Reality will come and I must face it yet
Dear, the night you left is when a new day started
Now I regret I have a lifetime to forget

Well dear, I hear tell that you’re fine with another
While I dwell with troubled mind from dawn to sunset
I’ve had some thoughts of finding you but why bother
And I regret I have a lifetime to forget

(Instrumental)

A lifetime to forget
Precious moments I remember
Late at night, dim the lights
Sweet love so warm and tender

Now, if we could right the wrongs that we both made dear
Maybe we could write a song about true love yet
But I guess it’s been too long and one thing is clear
Now I regret I have a lifetime to forget

Down deep inside dear I want to ask your pardon
If that would help to have our faded love reset
But I guess it’s been too long and you’re now hardened
And I regret I have a lifetime to forget

But I guess it’s been too long and you’re now hardened
And I regret I have a lifetime to forget

The Old Soft Shoe (Larry W Jones 02/01/2019) (song #7413)

I gave my heart away cause I’m a fool
Just like back in old time Vaudeville when love songs were not true
To get you back what can I say or do
Well, just for you I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe

I’m a fool to try for a love renewed
You broke my heart when you said you had found somebody new
But I’ve practiced just what to say and do
So, just for you I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe

(Instrumental)

The old soft shoe might get you back
I’m hopin’ for the best
Since our love ran off the tracks
I ain’t had a moment’s rest

I’m a fool to try for a love renewed
You broke my heart when you said you had found somebody new
But I’ve practiced just what to say and do
So, just for you I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe

Yes, I’ve practiced just what to say and do
So, just for you I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe
I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe
I’ll take a chance and dance the old soft shoe for you

I’ll Press Fit Yours To Mine (Larry W Jones 02/01/2019) (song #7414)

Well, you have lips and I have lips
They taste what’s mighty fine
I’m not talking about corn chips
I’ll press fit yours to mine

Oh, you have dreams and I have dreams
Together it’s a sign
Here’s a scheme I know you’ll esteem
I’ll press fit yours to mine

(Instrumental)

Now, you have hands and I have hands
To hold yours I’m inclined
I’ll be your man cause I have plans
I’ll press fit yours to mine

Now, your kind heart and my kind heart
Might just well be aligned
If you’ll admit I’ll do my part
I’ll press fit yours to mine

(Instrumental)

You have lips, dreams and hands and heart
Let’s love with sweetest wine
We’ll be a hit right from the start
I’ll press fit yours to mine

You’re Tied Around My Finger (Larry W Jones 02/01/2019) (song #7415)

I put you where I want you, the best place of all
When you trip and stumble I’ll come to brace your fall
I’ll help you forget him when you’re out on a limb
You’re tied around my finger for when love grows dim

You’re tied around my finger, puppet on a string
I’ll keep you tied until I hear my door bell ring
You’re tied around my finger, don’t try to get free
I’ll undo the string when you come back home to me

(Instrumental)

You’re tied around my finger, puppet on a string
I’ll keep you tied until I hear my door bell ring
You’re tied around my finger, don’t try to get free
I’ll undo the string when you come back home to me

I’ve tied you in a secret corner of my heart
So you will know just where to go when teardrops start
You know where to find me if you get jittery
You’re tied around my finger for love’s delivery

You’re tied around my finger, don’t try to get free
I’ll undo the string when you come back home to me

You’re Too Easy To Recall (Larry W Jones 02/01/2019) (song #7416)

Now, I could forget I knew you
Disregard how you made me fall
Just forget how you made me blue
But you’re too easy to recall

I could dismiss arms that held me
They were so soft and oh so small
But I’m so blind and so needy
Cause you’re too easy to recall

(Instrumental)

I could dismiss arms that held me
They were so soft and oh so small
But I’m so blind and so needy
Cause you’re too easy to recall

Guess you don’t need lips that kissed you
How I tried to forget them all
But I’ve made slips out of the blue
Cause you’re too easy to recall

Now, I could forget I knew you
But you’re too easy to recall

It Won’t Be Today (Larry W Jones 02/02/2019) (song #7417)

Well, today I heard it from the blue
Tomorrow would not be me and you
I know I’ll forget those words you say
Some fine day but it won’t be today

Oh, some fine day I won’t remember
Your French perfume called Fiery Ember
The fire’s gone out and I’m free to play
Some fine day but it won’t be today

(Instrumental)

Some fine day a brand new day will come
When I’ll forget where our love came from
I won’t recall when you went away
Some fine day but it won’t be today

Oh, some fine day I won’t remember
Your French perfume called Fiery Ember
The fire’s gone out and I’m free to play
Some fine day but it won’t be today

So I’ll just say, it won’t be today

Old Traditional Love (Larry W Jones 02/03/2019) (song #7418)

Well, I thought staying in love was an easy thing
But I see some dreams splittin’ apart at the seams
What are all these people so blindly thinkin’ of
Whatever happened to old traditional love

Whatever happened to old traditional love
When couples stayed just as firm as the stars above
Their sacred vows would never come to push and shove
Whatever happened to old traditional love

(Instrumental)

Here you are telling me that it’s past and goodbye
And here I stand as once your man wondering why
What do people do with old left over I love you
How can love forever fit in with someone new

Whatever happened to old traditional love
When couples stayed just as firm as the stars above
Their sacred vows would never come to push and shove
Whatever happened to old traditional love

Whatever happened to old traditional love

As Long As Love Stirs The Fire (Larry W Jones 02/04/2019) (song #7419)

As long as love stirs the fire I’ll be warmed by your flame

How long will this happiness be around
And how long will my feet be on the ground
Dear, if you will forever bare my name
As long as love stirs the fire
Then, I’ll be warmed by your flame

I’m not concerned about our future plans
Love will still burn a lifetime if it’s fanned
And though that old spark may seem to be tamed
As long as love stirs the fire
Then, I’ll be warmed by your flame

(Instrumental)

I’m not concerned about our future plans
Love will still burn a lifetime if it’s fanned
And though that old spark may seem to be tamed
As long as love stirs the fire
Then, I’ll be warmed by your flame

As long as love stirs the fire
Then, I’ll be warmed by your flame
As long as love stirs the fire
Then, I’ll be warmed by your flame

I’m Gonna Hold An Auction (Larry W Jones 02/05/2019) (song #7420)

I’m gonna hold an auction for a darkened sky
I’ll accept the lowest bid for a lonesome night
For one old worn out heart now who will raise a hand
Gonna hold an auction for girls who need a man

Now ladies, what will you bid for two empty arms
Call your lowest bid and take the bull by the horns
Come on all you ladies and let the bidding start
I’m gonna hold an auction for my lonely heart

(Instrumental)

I’m gonna hold an auction for lots of lost dreams
What will you bid now, for a man in faded jeans
Come on all you ladies, let the bidding begin
Gonna hold an auction, may the lowest bid win

Now ladies, what will you bid for two empty arms
Call your lowest bid and take the bull by the horns
Come on all you ladies and let the bidding start
I’m gonna hold an auction for my lonely heart

I’m gonna hold an auction, let the bidding start

In Love Up To My Eyes (Larry W Jones 02/06/2019) (song #7421)

No use to try and turn around
When I saw you I saw a prize
I’m in the skies ‘stead of the ground
Cause I’m in love up to my eyes

I want to swim instead of sink
Well, I guess that is no surprise
But I might drown instead I think
Cause I’m in love up to my eyes

(Instrumental)

Dear, when we kiss my heart won’t stop
My doctor gave me this advice
Stop, cause your heart’s flippity flop
But I’m in love up to my eyes

I bought a ring for your finger
It’s kinda small but mighty nice
I hope you like it and linger
Cause I’m in love up to my eyes

(Instrumental)

Dear, since I’ve seen your big blue eyes
I dream of you until sunrise
They’re all so sweet and a real treat
Cause I’m in love up to my eyes

I’ve dated lots of girls in life
But I saw right through their disguise
May I ask you to be my wife
Cause I’m in love up to my eyes

Black Coal Train (Larry W Jones 02/07/2019) (song #7422)

Now, listen while we gather round the old black stove
A story about a train that my Daddy drove
In Leadville Colorado ran the black coal veins
That’s where Daddy started driving the black coal train

Real early in the morning when the sun was low
Rolling out of Leadville he made the train horn blow
Headed down to Texas on the steel railroad main
Mama cooked meals and waited for the black coal train

(Instrumental)

Right on time every week about the break of day
We heard the train a-comin’ down the right of way
Daddy drove that old train no matter shine or rain
From Leadville to Texas rolling the black coal train

Well, I know that story ended a long time ago
Daddy told us his stories round the old black stove
About rolling down to Texas in the cold and rain
And coming back to Mama in the black coal train

Daddy’s life was in Leadville on the black coal train

Tony The Thunder Horse (Larry W Jones 02/08/2019) (song #7423)

The news was on the back page, hardly worth a show
Story bout silver screens from years of long ago
The reading of the lines brought a tear to my eye
My fav’rite one, Tony the Thunder Horse had died

My brothers and I rode western trails with Tony
When the Creighton Theater featured the pony
It just don’t seem right what the paper back page read
The Courier said Tony the Thunder Horse is dead

(Instrumental)

My thoughts went back to when I was a buckeroo
I never thought Tony would meet his Waterloo
To us he was our hero, running brave and strong
Oh, the sorrow, Tony the Thunder Horse is gone

My brothers and I rode western trails with Tony
When the Creighton Theater featured the pony
It just don’t seem right what the paper back page read
The Courier said Tony the Thunder Horse is dead

(Instrumental)

Tony was the fastest horse on the silver screen
He outran the wind and the bad guys in the scene
When my thoughts return to before I was a man
I see that Tony the Thunder Horse runs again

Tony was the fastest horse on the silver screen
He outran the wind and the bad guys in the scene
When my thoughts return to before I was a man
I see that Tony the Thunder Horse runs again

Tony the Thunder Horse runs again

Little Bitty Heartaches (Larry W Jones 02/09/2019) (song #7424)

I try to get a little sleep but sleep won’t come
I have little bitty heartaches til morning sun
The past keeps coming back with haunting memories
These little bitty heartaches just won’t let me be

Little bitty heartaches come back to hurt me so
Little bitty heartaches seem like they’re gonna grow
I just don’t know how long I can keep hanging on
I’ve had these little bitty heartaches since you’re gone

(Instrumental)

Little bitty heartaches come back to hurt me so
Little bitty heartaches seem like they’re gonna grow
I just don’t know how long I can keep hanging on
I’ve had these little bitty heartaches since you’re gone

My poor heart keeps telling me that I was a fool
Little bitty heartaches don’t tell me what to do
In my mind I wonder why did I let you go
Little bitty heartaches say I still love you so

In my mind I wonder why did I let you go
Little bitty heartaches say I still love you so

Big Live Oak Tree (Larry W Jones 02/09/2019) (song #7425)

I arrived in Tombstone at a quarter til three
Paid the blacksmith for horse shoes for old Champ
Then to the saloon for whiskey and a room key
But first some poker under an oil lamp

I pulled up the last chair in the Last Chance Saloon
The table was full with cowboys and snakes
The face cards that I drew were all winning real soon
But my good fortune turned out a mistake

He drew first but he never cleared leather
The young top-hand accused me of cheating the score
My gun felt just as light as a feather
The quick colt forty-five left him dead on the floor

Big live oak tree, your old limbs have grown long
You must have waited for quite a long age
I did no wrong but now I must be strong
My future’s grim as I reap my doomed wage

As a big crowd gathered round the town judge walked in
Then came the sheriff and he took command
Cowboy, you took the life of the judge’s new kin
His daughter just married that young top-hand

No reckon or reason could I make in defense
In a split second it was him or me
The poker money I won was not worth a cent
Out on a limb of the big live oak tree

Impressively growing on Boot Hill all alone
Dead of Winter but the live oak is green
As I strive to recall an old cowboy’s sad song
I whisper the words and know what they mean

I’m in the saddle and old Champ is beneath me
With his new horse shoes he’ll really make stride
I see the noose thrown over a limb of the tree
As they tightly tied my hands to my side

Big live oak tree, your old limbs have grown long
You must have waited for quite a long age
I did no wrong but now I must be strong
My future’s grim as I reap my doomed wage

The sheriff and judge think I’m a vagabond tramp
As they both approach the big live oak tree
With a leather whip the judge strikes my good horse Champ
I’m out of the saddle, boots swinging free

Oh, there’s many a trail good old Champ will still ride
Mountains and green valleys he’ll get to see
But because of my pride a young top-hand has died
Now I swing wide from a big live oak tree

I look up at the sky and the tree looks at me
High noon is now growing dark rapidly
The big noose is tight and it’s the last trail for me
And soon in Boot Hill is where they’ll lay me

Big live oak tree, your old limbs have grown long
You must have waited for quite a long age
I did no wrong but now I must be strong
My future’s grim as I reap my doomed wage

Big live oak tree, how long have you waited for me

Gonna Pack My Troubles In A Saddlebag (Larry W Jones 02/11/2019) (song #7426)

I’m gonna pack my troubles in a saddlebag
And dump ‘em by the trail of misery
Come along you lonely cowboys and don’t ride drag
Pack up all your troubles and follow me

Well, I’m tired of livin this lonesome cowboy life
Waitin’ for a cowgirl I’ll never see
I’m gonna pack my troubles in a saddlebag
And dump ‘em by the trail of misery

(Instrumental)

Maybe that warm western sun will begin to shine
And my old love life won’t be cold no more
I’ll me a cowgirl sweetheart I can call all mine
Cause that’s who this cowboy’s been searchin for

Well, all the ones I’ve dated up and made me sad
Heart a-swingin on a cottonwood tree
I’m gonna pack my troubles in a saddlebag
And dump ‘em by the trail of misery

(Instrumental)

Maybe that warm western sun will begin to shine
And my old love life won’t be cold no more
I’ll me a cowgirl sweetheart I can call all mine
Cause that’s who this cowboy’s been searchin for

Well, all the ones I’ve dated up and made me sad
Heart a-swingin on a cottonwood tree
I’m gonna pack my troubles in a saddlebag
And dump ‘em by the trail of misery

I Never See Mary In A Solitary Way (Larry W Jones 02/11/2019) (song #7427)

Dear Mary lives life in a peculiar way
Well, it ain’t funny but she lives it every day
Cause when I take her out and observing the town
There’s always somebody lurking in the background

Mary takes her sister or her brother, father or her mother
Darn, I never see Mary in a solitary way
Mary takes one of her aunts or uncles, got ‘em by the bundles
No, I never see Mary in a solitary way

One day I rode into town to take my sweet Mary something sweet
She said let’s go eat at the old downtown Buckhorn buffet
I heard her sister and her brother’s, father and her mother’s feet
Oh, I never see Mary in a solitary way

One day I bought a young pony with a fancy new saddle too
Ride along the trail and be with Mary without dismay
Well, we were riding and wooing when other sounds came a-clueing
Darn, every voice I heard was somebody at their horseplay

I dismounted from my saddle and looked this way and then the other
Was addled when I saw what I thought was a herd astray
There stood Mary’s sister and her brother, father and her mother
Oh, I never see Mary in a solitary way

One day I crossed the creek and I spotted Mary Lou a-fishin
At last I could see Mary in a solitary way
So I sat down beside her and confided to her my wishin
I hoped to get my darlin Mary on the hook that day

I put a worm on her line then fed her a line and another
She threw the line out in the water quite a ways away
Up came Mary’s sister and her brother, father and her mother
Darn, I never see Mary in a solitary way

One night by the moon I made her swoon and I almost shouted yea
The moon was bright but then I saw another light display
Her sister and her brother, father and her mother said hey hey
Oh, I never see Mary in a solitary way

Darn, I never see Mary in a solitary way

Dearest Beloved (Larry W Jones 02/13/2019) (song #7428)

She wrote herself a letter
Even though she didn’t know how to start
She began with words bitter
Dearest Beloved, how’s your broken heart

How’s things since he went away
Do you still fix lonely meals a-la-carte
Is life real and by the way
Dearest Beloved, how’s your broken heart

(Instrumental)

She wrote herself a letter
Even though she didn’t know how to start
She began with words bitter
Dearest Beloved, how’s your broken heart

She wrote herself an answer
Which said that each and every word was true
Each line was in the manner
Of someone who now had nothing to do

She wrote herself a letter
Dearest Beloved, how’s your broken heart

Chantilly And Rockabilly (Larry W Jones 02/14/2019) (song #7429)

Well, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
Yes, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
She likes to dance wearing frilly Chantilly
Puts me in a trance dancing rockabilly

Rockabilly plays loud at the Rambling Rose
She draws a crowd from her head down to her toes
Out on the floor she wears frilly Chantilly
Yes, she loves chantilly and rockabilly

(Instrumental)

Well, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
Yes, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
She likes to dance wearing frilly Chantilly
Puts me in a trance dancing rockabilly

When I feel like real good country style dancing
She comes along and makes it so romancing
Rockabilly plays loud at the Rambling Rose
She draws a crowd from her head down to her toes

(Instrumental)

Well, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
Yes, she loves chantilly and rockabilly
She likes to dance wearing frilly Chantilly
Puts me in a trance dancing rockabilly

Yes, she loves chantilly and rockabilly

I Left Her Leaving Going (Larry W Jones 02/15/2019) (song #7430)

My darlin’ left and it’s a shame
I’m the only one left to blame
Why did I do my darlin’ wrong
She only did right all along

Well, I left her leavin’ goin’
Cause why she left I’m a-knowin’
My big fool self is a-showin’
I left her leavin’ goin’ gone

(Instrumental)

Now I lie here in the dark night
Wondering why until daylight
Oh, why did I make her eyes cry
But I know why she said goodbye

Well, I left her leavin’ goin’
Cause why she left I’m a-knowin’
My big fool self is a-showin’
I left her leavin’ goin’ gone

Yes, I left her leavin’ goin’
I left her leavin’ goin’ gone

All I Do I Do All Wrong (Larry W Jones 02/20/2019) (song #7431)

I saw a red sign on a freeway ramp
Read, do not enter, under street light lamp
Put my whole brain in a big migraine cramp
All I do I do all wrong

All I do I do all wrong
All I do I do all wrong
Always the same old song
All I do I do all wrong

(Instrumental)

I had a girlfriend date at straight up eight
No money to spend and was running late
I took a wrong turn on the interstate
All I do is all wrong

All I do I do all wrong
All I do I do all wrong
Always the same old song
All I do I do all wrong

(Instrumental)

I’m the kinda guy always taking blame
Dropped my car keys down a flooded storm drain
Called my date Linda but her name was Jane
All I do is all wrong

All I do I do all wrong
All I do I do all wrong
Always the same old song
All I do I do all wrong

Freeways (Larry W Jones 02/21/2019) (song #7432)

Freeways travel in all directions
Cause for reflection is what they give
No freeways are paved of the quiet kind
Leading to the shadows of my mind

The concrete path is not for the few
Who don’t believe words that misconstrue
Those freeways never stop to remind
That there’s a path for the gentler kind

(Instrumental)

Freeways travel mountains and valleys
To some rally with a loud refrain
I need an alley where there’s no pain
Where searching for love is not in vain

The concrete path is not for the few
Who don’t believe words that misconstrue
Those freeways never stop to remind
That there’s a path for the gentler kind

(Instrumental)

Freeways lead people into danger
Where some bad stranger might push and shove
I need a back road of the quiet kind
Leading to a love I have in mind

Freeways never reach up to the sky
Where dreams of love fly above the clouds
Freeways don’t know the heart of a dove
Freeways will never lead to true love

(Instrumental)

The concrete path is not for the few
Who don’t believe words that misconstrue
Those freeways never stop to remind
That there’s a path for the gentler kind

The concrete path is not for the few
Who don’t believe words that misconstrue
Those freeways never stop to remind
That there’s a path for the gentler kind

Half Of Me And Half Of You (Larry W Jones 02/23/2019) (song #7433)

Dear, don’t take your better half and leave me without love
You see, half of me would always be unworthy of
Finding someone else for I would be a mourning dove
Half of me and half of you is all of the above

A love affair that’s half in love is only half fair
Loving half of you is more than my poor heart could bear
Dear, half of anything only adds up to sort of
Half of me and half of you is all of the above

(Instrumental)

Half of a dream only leads to wondering
Like plundering half the riches of a king
Same thing as a man’s hand in a ladies glove
Half of me and half of you is all of the above

Dear, don’t take your better half and leave me without love
You see, half of me would always be unworthy of
Finding someone else for I would be a mourning dove
Half of me and half of you is all of the above

Half of me and half of you is all of the above

I’m Always The Best Man (Larry W Jones 02/24/2019) (song #7434)

Another one of my buddies is gettin’ hitched
He asked me to be his best man
I didn’t tell him that our shoes need to be switched
I’d be the one holding her hand

Oh, I’m always the best man but never the groom
I walk the bridesmaid down the aisle
Oh, I’m always the best man but never the groom
They all see my pasted on smile

(Instrumental)

Oh, I’ve tried so many times to find me a bride
But I’ve found no one to beguile
So, here I go once again with my eyes half dried
I walk the bridesmaid down the aisle

Oh, I’m always the best man but never the groom
I walk the bridesmaid down the aisle
Oh, I’m always the best man but never the groom
They all see my pasted on smile

So, here I go once again with my eyes half dried
I walk the bridesmaid down the aisle

Breezes Of Yesteryear (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7435)

Tonight in my bed I sleep all alone
The loud clamor of the day drifts away
Alone in my room I hear like a song
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

I can hear Ernest Tubb on the radio
Singing country songs from long ago days
I hear my Mama sing along so low
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

(Instrumental)

I see a bright full moon on a June night
And my Daddy in the fields bailing hay
That little red school where I learned to write
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

I swim with my friends at the swimming hole
Each memory has many pages to say
Catch a perch with a string on a cane pole
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

(Instrumental)

I can hear angels sing with voices strong
And I pay attention to what they say
The best of tomorrow to you belong
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

I hear my Mama sing along so low
And my Daddy in the fields bailing hay
I swim with my friends at the swimming hole
Breezes of yesteryear drifting my way

This Hand Filled With Sand (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7436)

Look at this hand filled with sand, this hand filled with sand
Only true love made it live, this hand filled with sand

The ingredients of sand don’t add up to much
Calcium, magnesium, silicone and such
Just one dollar would buy ten of woman and man
But your real love made priceless this hand filled with sand

This hand filled with sand, this hand filled with sand
Was valued less than the poorest of man
Real love came and made a dream come to stand
When added in with this hand filled with sand

(Instrumental)

Look at this hand filled with sand, this hand filled with sand
Only true love made it live, this hand filled with sand

My whole worth was so small before you came to me
Just a hand filled with sand before love came to be
My worth now is greater than I could ever see
More than this hand filled with sand from the endless sea

This hand filled with sand, this hand filled with sand
Was valued less than the poorest of man
Real love came and made a dream come to stand
When added in with this hand filled with sand

Look at this hand filled with sand, this hand filled with sand
Only true love made it live, this hand filled with sand

On Top Of Old Smokey (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7437)

On top of Old Smokey
That hill called Clingman’s Dome
I sing in a low key
As I sit all alone

I lost my sweet darlin’
Where she is I don’t know
She started in quarrelin’
And our true love won’t grow

Courtin’ her was pleasure
But it ended in grief
I lost a fine treasure
As was stole by a thief

A thief he will rob you
Of her love that you crave
On top of Old Smokey
Let them dig my cold grave

A grave will decay you
It will turn you to dust
No more will betray you
A girl of your past trust

A sweet girl may kiss you
But she’ll tell you some lies
True love you will miss too
Not found in her disguise

She’ll say that she loves you
Your heart will feel at ease
There’s some guy above you
That she’ll court when she sees

On top of Old Smokey
That hill called Clingman’s dome
I sing in a low key
As I sit all alone

A thief he will rob you
Of her love that you crave
On top of Old Smokey
Let them dig my cold grave

Catfish Jones (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7438)

Well, they call me Catfish Jones
I’m part catfish in my bones
I don’t need no catfish guide
I know where them catfish hide

I am the catfish king of Louisian
I catch ‘em with a cane pole in my hand
They say I smell like catfish pheromones
Well, guess that’s why they call me Catfish Jones

(Instrumental)

Catfish and I come to terms
When I feed ‘em big ol worms
Long strings of catfish confirms
Why they call me Catfish Jones

Down on the bayou in ol Louisian
I am the guy who knows just how to land
A big ol flathead full of catfish bones
That’s why all Cajuns call me Catfish Jones

Well, they call me Catfish Jones
I’m part catfish in my bones

Back To The Western Range (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7439)

Well, it’s so easy to get trapped
Inside this electronic age
Making progress and seeing change
To cowboys makes no sense and strange

But I think I’ve figured it out
Just how to rid myself of doubt
This life I live I’ll rearrange
Going back to the western range

(Instrumental)

If you email, I’ll not respond
For of such things I am not fond
I guess I’m just not into change
Going back to the western range

Yes I think I’ve figured it out
Just how to rid myself of doubt
This life I live I’ll rearrange
Going back to the western range

(Instrumental)

Today I’m cutting the cable
Get my saddle from the stable
This life I live I’ll rearrange
Going back to the western range

The west is where I’ll figure out
What the good life is all about
Where life and love will interchange
Going back to the western range

Down On The Gulf Of Mexico (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7440)

Small waves were rollin’ on the Texas sand
As I was sittin’ and holdin’ your hand
I was ten and you nine long time ago
Away down on the gulf of Mexico

Ten years later I was your married man
That’s when you and I started makin’ plans
We decided then and there to take things slow
Away down on the gulf of Mexico

(Instrumental)

Those small waves still roll on the Texas sand
And big sea gulls fly where new lovers stand
I still love you more than you’ll ever know
Away down on the gulf of Mexico

Seventy years of livin’, thank God above
Fifty years we’re married, all filled with love
Glad we decided then to take things slow
Away down on the gulf of Mexico

Glad we decided then to take things slow
Away down on the gulf of Mexico

Jamaica Fare Thee Well (Larry W Jones 02/25/2019) (song #7441)

Well, down to the islands I sailed one day
I stopped at Jamaica to laugh and play
Green Mountain coffee tasted mighty nice
Jamaican rum was good with cola and ice

Now my mind is numb from Jamaican rum
I hear the peel of the island steel drum
I said goodbye to a Jamaican belle
And now I say Jamaica fare thee well

Yellow birds flying through the tropic air
Buying in the market without a care
Oh, how I hate to leave where trade winds blow
Jamaica fare the well for I must go

Now my mind is numb from Jamaican rum
I hear the peel of the island steel drum
I said goodbye to a Jamaican belle
And now I say Jamaica fare thee well

Down in Montego you will find a bay
Where you can dance the moonlit night away
Or by day sail on a catamaran
Forget about the mail and business man

Now my mind is numb from Jamaican rum
I hear the peel of the island steel drum
I said goodbye to a Jamaican belle
And now I say Jamaica fare thee well

My New Love Is Margarita (Larry W Jones 02/27/2019) (song #7442)

Now, let me tell you about my new love
Her name rhymes with senorita
And if I have to spell it out, I’ll shout
My new love is margarita

Oh, I don’t know where my old love lives now
I hear she went to Topeka
I mix lime and salt because I learned how
My new love is margarita

(Instrumental)

Margarita makes me forget her lies
And now I know I’m more than wise
I pour margarita by the pint size
Margarita I idolize

I don’t know why my old love departed
My new love’s a senorita
And she never leaves me brokenhearted
My new love is margarita

My new love’s a senorita
My new love is margarita

Where The Louisiana Bayous Flow (Larry W Jones 02/28/2019) (song #7443)

Way down in Louisian not many years ago
Lived an old Uncle Tom called Pappy Snow
Old Pappy played the banjo and the tambourine
His bones rattled as never heard or seen
Where the Louisiana bayous flow, bayous flow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow

One night Pappy started off to play for some chums
But fortified with a bounty of rum
Well, along the road he saw a log, long and black
Pappy laid down his banjo in his sack
Where the Louisiana bayous flow, bayous flow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow

(Instrumental)

Pappy said, old chap, I’ll move this log from its place
That log didn’t move, stared him in the face
Pappy made a big mistake, it was not a log
Cause he was in an alligator bog
Where the Louisiana bayous flow, bayous flow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow

That log was a gator with two eyes spaced out wide
One chomp and his teeth went through Pappy’s hide
Well, they looked but all they found was his old banjo
Gator took the last breath of Pappy Snow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow, bayous flow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow

Gator took the last breath of Pappy Snow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow, bayous flow
Where the Louisiana bayous flow

Traveling Back To Georgia (Larry W Jones 02/28/2019) (song #7444)

I’m travelling back to Georgia, for that good Dixie Land to see
That’s the place I left to wander, when I needed to be set free
Now I’m getting old and weary, and I’m now tired of roaming too
I’ll make my way back to Dixie, and I’ll say goodbye to the blues

I’m travelling back to Georgia
Yes, I’m travelling back
I’ll be travelling night and day
Following railroad tracks
I’m travelling back to Georgia
No man can keep me away

(Instrumental)

I’m travelling back to Georgia, to the good land where I was born
Where my Daddy planted cotton, and long rows of sweet yellow corn
I’ll be happy to see fam’ly, and the house in the country lane
Where the red roses grow bram’ bly, yes, I’m travelling back again

I’m travelling back to Georgia
Yes, I’m travelling back
I’ll be travelling night and day
Following railroad tracks
I’m travelling back to Georgia
No man can keep me away

(Instrumental)

To live again, die in Georgia, will suit me fine and to a tee
Help Daddy hoe corn and cotton, yes, oh so happy I will be
I’ll hunt the old coon and possum, dance and the banjo I will play
And when I get back to Georgia, I’m never gonna go away

I’m travelling back to Georgia
Yes, I’m travelling back
I’ll be travelling night and day
Following railroad tracks
I’m travelling back to Georgia
No man can keep me away

Lovely Melinda May (Larry W Jones 03/01/2019) (song #7445)

Lovely Melinda, come to me, my dear
I’ve long been waiting, waiting just for you
Lovely Melinda, now dry up your tears
And walk with me in the new morning dew

Lovely Melinda, Melinda, Melinda May
I’d walk a country mile or two for you any day
Let me see you smile dear, my sweet Melinda May

(Instrumental)

Laugh in the warm sunshine, weep in the rain
Walk with me down where the lily pads bloom
Over in the meadow, down in the lane
Please come Melinda and be my perfume

Lovely Melinda, Melinda, Melinda May
I’d walk a country mile or two for you any day
Let me see you smile dear, my sweet Melinda May

(Instrumental)

Lovely Melinda, you’re soft as moonbeams
No pretty flower ever bloomed so fair
You’re like the roses blooming by the stream
And you can sing like the birds in the air

Lovely Melinda, Melinda, Melinda May
I’d walk a country mile or two for you any day
Let me see you smile dear, my sweet Melinda May

Cornpone Jones Of Caroline (Larry W Jones 03/02/2019) (song #7446)

I’ve often heard it said of late
Carolina is the best state
Where a real country boy can shine
Like Cornpone Jones of Caroline

Now, my dear Mama done told me
I’m the best looking country boy
And in the mirror I could see
Mama was right I saw with joy

I dressed myself from head to toe
And down to Dinah I did go
My new coveralls fit just fine
On Cornpone Jones of Caroline

Her bulldog cleared me from her yard
I thought I’d better leave my card
I tied it to the fence with twine
Signed Cornpone Jones of Caroline

For my card a letter she wrote
I read it over note for note
And her love words on every line
Said Cornpone Jones of Caroline

They say beauty is but skin deep
But with Dinah none can compete
Dinah changed her name from Miss Dine
To Cornbpone Jones of Caroline

And every little Jones she had
Was just as handsome as his Dad
Cause when he looked his face would shine
Like Cornpone Jones of Caroline

Chatting Down Pat In Chattanooga (Larry W Jones 03/02/2019) (song #7448)

Well, I’ve got chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga
Pat is the cutest Dixie belle
Makes my breathing hard and my heart go ah-ooo-ga
I’ve been chattin’ down Pat a spell

Yes, I’ve got chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga
Love bugs circled and sat on me
I talked Pat into dancing in Chattanooga
That is that for the world to see

Yes, I’ve got chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga

(Instrumental)

Well, I was up at the bat in Chattanooga
Knocked a home run and tipped my hat
I no longer roam and Pat is why I’ll clue ya
Chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga

Yes, I’ve got chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga
Love bugs circled and sat on me
I talked Pat into dancing in Chattanooga
That is that for the world to see

Yes, I’ve got chattin’ down pat in Chattanooga

Mattress By The Curtain (Larry W Jones 03/04/2019) (song #7449)

Two old chums resided in a nursing home for the aged
Bedridden in their mattresses as their life faded away
A curtain was hung between them for solitude and care
And another one was hung to cover the window there

Bob’s mattress was next to the window so he could see out
He would tell old Dan what the outside world was all about

Bob and Dan told each other about their lives and travails
The memories they both shared was truth and a few tall tales
Bob pulled back the curtain and said Summer had turned to Fall
And to Dan who was hidden he tried to explain it all

From his mattress by the curtain Bob told Dan how kids ran
Old Dan felt certain that Bob must have been sent by God’s plan
He could not see the young couples Bob said strolled by the lake
Or families in the park playing games and grilling steak

On a cold December morning Dan could tell it was dawn
When they pulled back his divider he saw that Bob was gone
They moved old Dan to the mattress by the curtain that day
As he shed a tear for Bob his chum who had passed away

Dan pulled back the curtain to see what he could really see
There was nothing but an old stone wall, not a single tree

Soon a man named Jim came to the nursing home for the aged
Bedridden in his mattress as his life faded away
Now in the mattress by the curtain old Dan could see out
He would tell old Jim what the outside world was all about

Dan and Jim told each other about their lives and travails
The memories they both shared was truth and a few tall tales
Dan pulled back the curtain and said Summer had turned to Fall
And to Jim who was hidden he tried to explain it all

From the mattress by the curtain old Dan explained it all

Good Morning Mountain Dew (Larry W Jones 03/04/2019) (song #7450)

Good morning mountain dew
I’ll start my day with you
That way I won’t be blue
Good morning mountain dew

How I miss her warm kiss
Sweet as the morning mist
Where she is I’ve no clue
Good morning mountain dew

(Instrumental)

Sit on this porch for hours
Count pedals on the flow’rs
They die and then they’re through
Good morning mountain dew

Good morning mountain dew
I’ll start my day with you
That way I won’t be blue
Good morning mountain dew

(Instrumental)

Often I think of you
And good times we went through
My next thought’s right on cue
Good morning mountain dew

Good morning mountain dew
I’ll start my day with you
That way I won’t be blue
Good morning mountain dew

Spirit Of St Louis (Larry W Jones 03/04/2019) (song #7451)

Left Long Island on one early morning
T’was Friday May twenty, twenty seven
The takeoff was long and quite alarming
But Lucky Lindy flew toward the heavens

That new Wright engine was just a-humming
As Lindberg flew on through the endless sky
To his ears it sounded like smooth drumming
Toward Paris Lindy made the Spirit fly

(Instrumental)

Over waves that looked like deep blue mountains
The ocean never looked so deep and wide
Unafraid, the hours Lindy kept countin’
Spirit of St Louis flew on in stride

A mob of French people saw the landing
Then Lucky Lindy climbed out with a sigh
Spirit of St Louis he commanded
Now hangs in a museum full of pride

Spirit of St Louis he commanded
Now hangs in a museum full of pride

Ballad Of A Cowboy Star (Larry W Jones 03/05/2019) (song #7452)

Ride on ride on cowboy star, top hand cowboy’s what you are

Lived a cowboy in our town, best top-hand from all around
Tall and handsome, lanky bones, folks just called him cowboy Jones
He loved a cowgirl named Jane, who lived down a country lane

Ride on ride on cowboy star, top hand cowboy’s what you are

Jones was best in all the west, but with that was not obsessed
He cared not, this cowboy star, for some other girl he swore
He loved a cowgirl named Jane, who lived down a country lane

Ride on ride on cowboy star, top hand cowboy’s what you are

Jones would marry her next June, under a full Texas moon
Then a man with lots of dough, offered Jones the rodeo
He left his cowgirl named Jane, who lived down a country lane

Ride on ride on cowboy star, top hand cowboy’s what you are

Jones became a cowboy star, Texas wide and then afar
Trophy buckles and a name, something was lost in his fame
He missed his cowgirl named Jane, who lived down a country lane

Ride on ride on cowboy star, top hand cowboy’s what you are

So one day the cowboy star, packed his saddle, spurs, guitar
Quit the rodeo and fame, headed home to things mundane
Married his cowgirl named Jane, who lived down a country lane

Cowboy Jones til now remains, down the lane with cowgirl Jane

Blue Tail Fly (Larry W Jones 03/05/2019) (song #7453)

When I was young I used to wait on my master with dinner plate
Passed the bottle when he got dry and brushed away the blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

After dinner my master slept and he bid me my vigil kept
When master slept with both shut eyes I watched close for the blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

When master rode in afternoons I followed with a hick’ry broom
His pony was so very shy when bitten by the blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

My master rode around the farm blue tail flies around him did swarm
One chanced to bite his horse’s thigh the Devil told that blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

The pony ran and jumped and pitched my master tumbled in the ditch
Now dead the jury wondered why the verdict was the blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

Now he lies neath a simmon tree his epitaph for all to see
Neath this cold stone I’m forced to lie all because of the blue tail fly

Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Jimmy crack corn and he don’t care
Cause my master’s now gone away

My master’s gone now let him rest they say all things are for the best
I’ll not forget til day I die my master and that blue tail fly

Where Has Your Cowboy Gone (Larry W Jones 03/06/2019) (song #7454)

Where, oh where has your cowboy gone
He’s gone on the trail to Texas for to roam
How I wish he were safe at home
He’s gone on the trail to Texas for to roam
How I wish he were safe at home

Where, oh where is he, if you know
He dwells in Texas where the blue bonnets grow
Here in my heart I love him so
He dwells in Texas where the blue bonnets grow
Here in my heart I love him so

(Instrumental)

In what clothes is your cowboy clad
Boots, hat, spurs and britches and shirt made of plaid
Here in my heart I love that lad
Boots, hat, spurs and britches and shirt made of plaid
Here in my heart I love that lad

Now, suppose your cowboy should die
Taps would play o’er him and I would sit and cry
My prayer is my cowboy not die
Taps would play o’er him and I would sit and cry
My prayer is my cowboy not die

Where, oh where has your cowboy gone
He’s gone on the trail to Texas for to roam

I Leave My Heart With You (Larry W Jones 03/06/2019) (song #7455)

I leave my heart with you love
Though I am now forced to stray
With such grief I onward move
And make my long lonely way
Tedious will hours appear
Each day seems a year or two
You are my only one dear
Love, I leave my heart with you

(Instrumental)

Fav’rit thoughts my mind invites
Your beauty is all around
In poppies red, roses white
Sweet you in flowers are found
No others can mem’ry cheer
For others I hardly knew
It’s only you I call dear
Love, I leave my heart with you

(Instrumental)

At my return may I find
Love is as strong as old times
I’ll return from o’er the brine
Before I have lost my prime
Your loyal vow I can hear
That alone my dear will do
Love, I leave my heart with you

Love, I leave my heart with you

Triplets Three (Larry W Jones 03/06/2019) (song #7456)

Now, once in a land there lived three triplets
Julie, Janie and the third one Jamie
All three of them welcomed lovers visits
One was brainy, one zany, one lowly

Julie was the brainy one, thought wiser
To marry a rich man but a miser
So, a rich man’s wife Julie came to be
Though he was an old man as all could see
Julie’s spouse lived long enough to vex her
She was as perplexed as she could be
Julie was perplexed as she could be

Janie was the middle triplet daughter
But she was zany as zany could be
Janie was led along by her passion
She up and married a man of fashion
But he was just as dull as dull could be
Oh, Janie’s spouse so dull that all could see
And Janie was as sad as sad could be

Jamie was the youngest triplet daughter
And she was the lowliest of the three
Jamie married a lowly man but true
And with true love he always carried through
Jamie married a lowly man but true
Now, once in a land triplets came to be
Julie was the happiest of the three

Now, once in a land triplets came to be
Julie, Janie and the third one Jamie
One was brainy, one zany, one lowly
One was vexed, one was dull and one with glee
Julie was the lowliest of the three
But she was happiest for all to see

Sweet Bay Of Sabine (Larry W Jones 03/07/2019) (song #7457)

Nowhere in Texas is a valley so sweet
As the bay of Sabine where warm waters meet
The best bay of Texas shall fade from its start
E’re the bloom of that bay should fade from my heart

Yet it isn’t nature that covers the scene
Surrounding the bay with big trees of moss green
It isn’t the magic of inlet and hill
No, the lure is something more exquisite still

(Instrumental)

Oh, it is the friends so beloved and dear
Who make the bay of Sabine full of good cheer
They know how the best charms of nature improve
When it’s reflected by friends from eyes filled with love

Sweet bay of Sabine, oh how calm I can rest
The inlet of Texas with friends I love best
Where in storms we shelter until the winds cease
In the sweet bay of Sabine hearts are at peace

Son Of The West (Larry W Jones 03/07/2019) (song #7458)

A son of the west am I
Horse shoes spurn the desert sand
A son of the west am I
Cattle wear my western brand

A son of the west am I
Gallant I ride far and free
A son of the west am I
My talent’s for all to see

(Instrumental)

I scoff at town life secure
City life I can’t endure
Out here freedom’s not obscure
A son of the west for sure

A cowgirl waits at her ranch
I met her one day by chance
And we’ll marry bye and bye
A son of the west am I

(Instrumental)

A son of the west am I
Gallant I ride far and free
But a cowgirl caught my eye
And we’ll marry bye and bye

A son of the west am I
A son of the west am I

When You Rise (Larry W Jones 03/07/2019) (song #7459)

Believe what I say of your endearing young charms
Which I gaze on so fondly today
They may change tomorrow while you’re still in my arms
Like gifts bestowed but fading away

You will still be adored as this moment you are
So let loveliness fade as it will
For around each lone wrinkle each wish of my heart
Will entwine itself to your face still

(Instrumental)

It is not while beauty and youth are yours to own
And when cheeks are not stained by a tear
That the fervor and love of a heart can be known
For olden time will make you more dear

Hearts that have truly loved never sighs or forgets
Though time itself may close loving eyes
As sunflowers turns to face the sun when it sets
I’ll again see your face when you rise

The Wandering Troubadour (Larry W Jones 03/07/2019) (song #7460)

So chill the wintery winds were blowing
And so foul was the night in its snowing
Through the storm the troubadour was going
And he sought shelter at the Pub & Moor
Inside the Pub & Moor it was cheery
While outside it was so cold and dreary
The wandering troubadour was so weary
And thought to pass the winter night secure

Softly he sung his slow mournful ditty
Troubadour’s tale of sorrow and pity
But the owner was scoffing and gritty
And stopped the sad refrain with scornful jeer
You’re just a vagrant and frequent comer
Go sing your refrains somewhere in summer
For we don’t want an old singing strummer
And you will find no comfort lodging here

Slowly the troubadour got up, sighing
His wounded pride forbid his replying
No last feeble effort was worth trying
There his ballads ended, no more to rise
Through his guitar the wild winds were streaming
Like dirges all troubadours are singing
The old minstral from insults still stinging
Wandered on through the cold and win’try night

Now, though the win’try winds are still blowing
And so foul is the night in its snowing
Through the storm the troubadour is going
But no shelter seeks at the Pub & Moor
Inside the Pub & Moor it’s still cheery
While outside it is so cold and dreary
The wandering troubadour is so weary
But passes the Pub & Moor unsecure

Honky Tonk Dawn (Larry W Jones 03/08/2019) (song #7461)

Well I left my shack down the country road
Told mama my mind was in overload
I went steppin’ out for some country songs
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

The honky tonk jukebox was playin’ fast
Fed that jukebox long as my money last
By five AM all my money was gone
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

I went steppin’ out for some country songs
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

(Instrumental)

Jim Bob ran the best honky tonk in town
And I was a mess actin’ like a clown
Don’t recall when he threw me on the lawn
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

Gonna tuck my headache back in my shack
Told mama I ain’t never goin’ back
That was yesterday but that day is gone
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

That was yesterday but that day is gone
Now I’m facin’ a new honky tonk dawn

Meet Me In The Moonlight Alone (Larry W Jones 03/08/2019) (song #7462)

Meet me in the moonlight alone
Then I’ll have not gone there in vain
Meet me in the moonlight alone
At the end of the lovers lane

Dear, you must come for I have said
I’ll show the shy evening primrose
Their queen when the moonlight is spread
They will know when your beauty shows

Meet me in the moonlight alone
Meet me in the moonlight alone

(Instrumental)

Daylight may do for other guys
For some reason they just can’t see
That when moonlight floods the night skies
The shy evening primrose is queen

So my dear, be sure to be there
For the moonlight I dearly prize
The shy primrose we both can share
With the soft moonlight in our eyes

Meet me in the moonlight alone
Meet me in the moonlight alone

My Ears Both Burn (Larry W Jones 03/10/2019) (song #7463)

Dear, sometimes I want to return to hold and kiss you
But memories are behind of things for which I yearn
I know how people talk and they all know I miss you
My ears both burn and so is the bridge of no return

How could I think there was another girl to love me
When it was only your true love received that I spurned
I know how people talk and it bothers and grieves me
My ears both burn and so is the bridge of no return

(Instrumental)

Dear, each day my heart seems to ask to be forgiven
Oh, but I suppose that is no longer your concern
I know how people talk and wonder about livin’
My ears both burn and so is the bridge of no return

How could I think there was another girl to love me
When it was only your true love received that I spurned
I know how people talk and it bothers and grieves me
My ears both burn and so is the bridge of no return

My ears both burn just like that old bridge of no return

Wipe Those Tears From Your Eyes (Larry W Jones 03/10/2019) (song #7464)

Wipe those tears from your eyes
And dear you’ll recognize
True love in my heart still lives for you

Wipe those tears from your eyes
And dear you’ll recognize
I’ve returned and I’ll always be true

Now, I don’t know why I went away
So dear, I don’t know just what to say
I did it and dear, I lament it
I’ll regret it til my dying day

(Instrumental)

Wipe those tears from your eyes
And dear you’ll recognize
True love in my heart still lives for you

Wipe those tears from your eyes
And dear you’ll recognize
I’ve returned and I’ll always be true

Now, I don’t know why I went away
So dear, I don’t know just what to say
I did it and dear, I lament it
I’ll regret it til my dying day

Wipe those tears from your eyes
And dear you’ll recognize
True love in my heart still lives for you

True love in my heart still lives for you

Love Down In The Vale (Larry W Jones 03/10/2019) (song #7465)

Did you ever hear the tale of a cowboy in the vale
Who asked a cowgirl to give him a kiss
But the pretty cowgirl cried oh no that must be denied
Although she wished that she’d said oh yes yes
For at night in her bed she sighed for the cowboy instead
And wished that she would have followed his trail
And down in her heart lived truth that she loved that cowboy youth
Such was the tale of love down in the vale

Did you ever hear the tale of how he bought a new veil
And told her that his love prompted him to
Now, how silly was the girl who said it was just a whirl
And answered him in words that made him blue
For at night in her bed she sighed for the cowboy instead
And wished that she would have followed his trail
And down in her heart lived truth that she loved that cowboy youth
Such was the tale of love down in the vale

Did you ever know the sign of a girl who changed her mind
When quickly time had gone by more or less
For when the cowboy next pressed she had to rightly confess
Cowboy this time I must say oh yes yes
Now at night in her bed she sighes with the cowboy instead
And glad that he had so followed her trail
And down in their hearts live truth that they have loved right from youth
Such is the tale of love down in the vale

Blue Eyed Texas Rose (Larry W Jones 03/11/2019) (song #7466)

Across Texas hills so wide
Where bluebonnets never hide
Riding along a song I did compose
Already made up my mind
Never would I ever find
Another like my blue eyed Texas rose

Talk about your yellow rose
She’s a flow’r of Texas too
But she returned to New York I suppose
When the hills have gone to rest
Bluebonnets with dew are blessed
Then I’ll dream of my blue eyed Texas rose

(Instrumental)

Across Texas hills we’ll ride
Where bluebonnets never hide
Her beauty bluebonnets know and it shows
With my song we’ll harmonize
Beneath the blue Texas skies
And sing about my blue eyed Texas rose

Talk about your yellow rose
She’s a flow’r of Texas too
But she returned to New York I suppose
When the hills have gone to rest
Bluebonnets with dew are blessed
Then I’ll dream of my blue eyed Texas rose

(Instrumental)

Where the long horned cattle roam
Texas hills where I call home
Our ranch house is now spread with baby clothes
Under Texas skies of blue
This cowboy’s dreams all came true
With my sweetheart, sweet blue eyed Texas rose

Talk about your yellow rose
She’s a flow’r of Texas too
But she returned to New York I suppose
When the hills have gone to rest
Bluebonnets with dew are blessed
Then I’ll dream of my blue eyed Texas rose

This cowboy’s dreams all came true
With my sweetheart, sweet blue eyed Texas rose

The Last Sad Whippoorwill (Larry W Jones 03/11/2019) (song #7467)

The long Summer’s end is near my dear
It’s then you say you’re going away
Our warm Summer’s love is now so clear
The end will come in a few more days

You say that soon you’ll have to travel
Through our valley and over the hill
I’ll be so alone without you dear
When I hear the last sad whippoorwill

(Instrumental)

Sand hill roses are still blooming dear
And leaves on all the trees are still green
But I hear the whippoorwill calling
Calling out a warning though unseen

You say that soon you’ll have to travel
Through our valley and over the hill
I’ll be so alone without you dear
When I hear the last sad whippoorwill

(Instrumental)

I thought that our love was planted dear
In the ground for harvest in the Fall
But you say you won’t be around dear
When I hear the last whippoorwill call

You say that soon you’ll have to travel
Through our valley and over the hill
I’ll be so alone without you dear
When I hear the last sad whippoorwill

Maritime Man (Larry W Jones 03/12/2019) (song #7468)

Now, Margie’s walking down to the harbor quay
Told about words she had to say
To a maritime man docking ship today

Margie’s going to see her maritime man
To explain the best way she can
About how she has a plan to marry him

I suppose she hasn’t heard maritime news
Something about an outbound cruise
And her maritime man has his walking shoes

Her maritime man will tell her all he knows
About how the wide ocean flows
And another sailing ship has called to him

Now, Margie said she had prayed the other day
For stormy skies to clear away
And her maritime man to sail home to shore

For Margie thought about the wild squalls and rain
Putting her mind and heart in pain
With having him home she couldn’t ask for more

Margie’s going to see her maritime man
To explain the best way she can
About how she has a plan to marry him

I suppose she hasn’t heard maritime news
Something about an outbound cruise
And her maritime man has his walking shoes

Well, her maritime man told her all he knows
About how the wide ocean flows
And another sailing ship had called to him

Margie’s going to see her maritime man
Margie’s going to see her maritime man

Gotta Lotta Ax To Grind (Larry W Jones 03/12/2019) (song #7469)

I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind
And it’s you I’ve got on my mind
Oh, I guess you thought it was cool
To talk and make me out a fool
But babe, I’m not made of that kind
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind with you

I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind
You treated my heart so unkind
Broke it in so many pieces
With your talk and bitter speeches
But babe, all your talk is ill timed
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind with you

(Instrumental)

I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind
About my love you left behind
I know you spread it all around
That a new love you now have found
Three hearts cannot become entwined
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind with you

I know you spread it all around
That a new love you now have found
Three hearts cannot become entwined
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind
I’ve gotta lotta ax to grind with you

Can You Tell Me With No Lie (Larry W Jones 03/12/2019) (song #7470)

Oh, can you tell me with no lie
How far from love my heart can fly
I see some dangers I must shun
Oh, I must guard my heart and eye
Or else I would become undone
Or else I would become undone
Oh, I must guard my heart and eye
Or else I would become undone

Oh, can you tell me with no lie
Why your impression’s on my mind
And in time I was aware of
That it’s a snare cause I now find
One look at you and I’m in love
One look at you and I’m in love
That it’s a snare cause I now find
One look at you and I’m in love

Oh, can you tell me with no lie
Though I am sure I’d mourn my lot
Apart from you could I be bold
Can old memories be controlled
Though I know you can’t be forgot
Though I know you can’t be forgot
Can old memories be controlled
Though I know you can’t be forgot

Oh, can you tell me with no lie
How far from love my heart can fly
Oh, can you tell me with no lie
Why your impression’s on my mind
One look at you and I’m in love
One look at you and I’m in love
That it’s a snare cause I now find
One look at you and I’m in love

Home Sweet Home (Larry W Jones 03/13/2019) (song #7471)

Among splendors and mansions I once chanced to roam
Be it ever so lowly there’s no place like home
An allure from inside seemed to draw me in there
Be it ever so lowly there’s no place elsewhere
Home, home, home sweet home
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home

When far distant from home splendor sparkled in vain
So I returned to my lowly cottage again
The morning mockingbird sings and mimics my call
Oh, my old home sweet home is the sweetest of all
Home home home sweet home
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home

How sweet it is to be near my good Father’s smile
And feel the care of my Mother’s love that beguiles
It was a delight to view treasures when I roamed
Be it ever so lowly there’s no place like home
Home home home sweet home
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home

To home sweet home I returned, no burdens or care
Familiar faces all smiled and welcomed me there
No more from that cottage will I ever more roam
Be it ever so lowly there’s no place like home
Home home home sweet home
There’s no place like home
There’s no place like home

Leave Forever (Larry W Jones 03/13/2019) (song #7472)

Since you deceive me and now you leave me
No words will relieve me of pain
You were my lover but now a rover
Tears that I shed are all in vain

Now leave forever, yet though love’s severed
Never will I wish for you ill
Your love was dearest and I thought endless
But darling, I will love you still

You were caressing and my one blessing
Love possessing I thought was true
A vision was pasted that I truly tasted
But my love was wasted on you

Now leave forever, yet though love’s severed
Never will I wish for you ill
Your love was dearest and I thought endless
But darling, I will love you still

Joy was abounding with love surrounding
Music sounding with love to show
But now the measure that rang with pleasure
Is now a sad gesture of woe

Now leave forever, yet though love’s severed
Never will I wish for you ill
Your love was dearest and I thought endless
But darling, I will love you still

Image Of My Lady (Larry W Jones 03/13/2019) (song #7473)

Her lovely eyes twinkle for me
She doesn’t need a high degree
She’s a worker, never lazy
That’s an image of my lady
Her soft hands she strokes through my hair
Sometimes her load’s too much to bear
No wonder I call her baby
That’s an image of my lady

Her arms enfold me when I’m cold
I know I’ll need her when I’m old
And she says I love you daily
That’s an image of my lady
Her trust in me can make me strong
In love is just where I belong
She shares my life when it’s rainy
That’s an image of my lady

Some of my dreams have gone to bust
She picks them up from off the dust
And mends them all back to safety
That’s an image of my lady
I have reasons to understand
Come the seasons I’m still her man
And I know she loves me greatly
That’s an image of my lady

The Cowgirl I Left Behind Me (Larry W Jones 03/14/2019) (song #7474)

I’m as lonely as a sad whippoorwill
As I ride o’er the trail my heart’s heavy
Thoughts of that girl on my mind lingers still
Since parting from my sweet cowgirl Betsy
And I have searched for one until this day
But there has been no one to remind me
How sweet were the times that soon passed away
With that sweet cowgirl I left behind me

Oh no, never will I forget that night
The Western stars were so bright above me
How gently they lent their silvery light
When she spoke kind words and vowed to love me
But now I’m on the trail to Abilene
Riding for the big trail boss who signed me
When this drive’s over I hope to be seen
With that sweet cowgirl I left behind me

Betsy’s hair hangs down in long ringlets fair
Her eyes are like diamond stars in shining
Betsy’s form is fine with a cowgirl’s flare
No wonder I find my heart is pining
I hope this cattle drive ends without fail
For a hard cowboy’s life God designed me
Now I pray He lead me back down the trail
To that sweet cowgirl I left behind me

Long Long Ago (Larry W Jones 03/14/2019) (song #7475)

Let’s ride the trails that to us were so dear
Long, long ago, long, long ago
I’ll sing the songs you delighted to hear
Long, long ago, long, long ago
Now that I’ve come may your grief be removed
Try to forget that so long I have roved
Dear, please believe that I love as you loved
Long, long ago, long, long ago

Dear, do you recall the trail where we met
Long, long ago, long, long ago
I know you said you would never forget
Long, long ago, long, long ago
Above all others your smile I preferred
And dear, when you spoke you charmed every word
In my heart I treasured phrases I heard
Long, long ago, long, long ago

By your memory all my hopes were raised
Long, long ago, long, long ago
That my return might never be erased
Long, long ago, long, long ago
By my long absence your trust has been tried
But still I hope you welcome me with pride
Let’s ride together as then side by side
Long, long ago, long, long ago

All It Was Cracked Up To Be (Larry W Jones 03/14/2019) (song #7476)

Now, if any of my friends ask for me
Alone in my room is where I will be
But tell them don’t bother to come and see
My heart is all it was cracked up to be

I heard the crack when she opened the door
But the sound was somewhere inside of me
The same time as my dreams fell on the floor
My heart is all it was cracked up to be

(Instrumental)

I tried to keep her here on bended knee
She wouldn’t cause she wanted to be free
Oh, I suppose it suits me to a tee
My heart is all it was cracked up to be

I heard the crack when she opened the door
But the sound was somewhere inside of me
The same time as my dreams fell on the floor
My heart is all it was cracked up to be

I heard the crack when she opened the door
My heart is all it was cracked up to be

My Old Grandfather’s Clock (Larry W Jones 03/14/2019) (song #7477)

My old grandfather’s clock stood eight feet tall
So stately it would stand long in the hall
It was carved from rosewood and knotted pine
And was reserved to keep count of the time
My old grandfather’s clock was bought the day
That my old grandfather was born in May
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

As the years rolling on by were mounting
His lifetime it was faithfully counting
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

As a boy he watched the pendulum swing
Parents wound the grandfather clock’s spring
As he grew up the old clock seemed to know
His growing up cause its face had a glow
And when he carried his bride through the door
Twice twelve the clock struck for age twenty four
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

As the years rolling on by were mounting
His lifetime it was faithfully counting
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

I recall my grandfather said of men
Grandfather clocks were more faithful than them
No time was wasted and this he had found
Just one time each week it begged to be wound
It kept the pace with a smile on its face
Its hands weren’t idle but kept up the chase
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

As the years rolling on by were mounting
His lifetime it was faithfully counting
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

When it reached ninety an alarm was heard
Never before was a night so disturbed
But that’s when we all knew the time was nigh
T’was my grandfather’s clue that he must die
We held his hand and remembered his prime
And then he and his clock ran out of time
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

As the years rolling on by were mounting
His lifetime it was faithfully counting
Counted days, hours, minutes, seconds they say
Until my old grandfather passed away

You’ll Always Be A Sweet Memory (Larry W Jones 03/16/2019) (song #7478)

You’ll always be a sweet memory
That walks right through my mind all the time
You couldn’t be the one girl for me
And I couldn’t ask you to be mine

You were the love of somebody else
And your future was all you could see
Though I’ll just place my heart on the shelf
You’ll always be a sweet memory

(Instrumental)

Tonight I will shed a lonely tear
For a sweet dream only I can see
For in dreams I can hold you so near
You’ll always be a sweet memory

All you’ll be is a sweet memory
Of someone I had to leave behind
Though I hope your future will be fine
You’ll always be a sweet memory
You’ll always be a sweet memory

Green Grass Skirt (Larry W Jones 03/16/2019) (song #7479)

I danced the hula in Honolula
With an island wahine in a green grass skirt
But some Rambo taught her how to tango
He wrangled my wahine in her green grass skirt

Yeah that Rambo taught her how to tango
He was a Valentino because he sang so
He wrangled my wahine on the isle
Honolula hula girl in her green grass skirt

(Instrumental)

Now they dance tango in Honolula
Instead of dancing the hula where tourists go
I lost my chance for romance and it hurts
Honolula hula girl in her green grass skirt

Now I have to leave from Honolula
Leave my island wahine in her green grass skirt
Yeah some Rambo taught her how to tango
He wrangled my wahine in her green grass skirt

I danced the hula in Honolula
With an island wahine in a green grass skirt

Dory Boat (Larry W Jones 03/16/20129) (song #7480))

How smoothly glides the dory boat
Way from the dock and from the shore
And the fishermen all take note
How softly moves the dipping oar

They toil so hard with gladsome cheer
Though the dory boat has no speed
But fisher work will help those dear
To have their meal on which to feed

They cast their lines in Alcove Bay
With the oars locked on gunnel sides
The dory boat with gentle sway
Rocks with the waves and flowing tide

Contented is their daily lot
Fishing upon the salty sea
And blessed they are for fishes caught
The sea is life they all agree

Some mermaid on her rock may sing
To lure them with her haunting charm
No water spout or wicked thing
Can bring the dory boat to harm

Its hull is full of scaly sores
There from fighting many a gale
Today with joy they row toward shore
Homeward the dory boat does hail

This Poor Cowboy (Larry W Jones 03/17/2019) (song #7481)

It’s your wish and I must leave you
Though you know I have loved you well
I’ll not cry for that might grieve you
Although my broken heart might tell
Although my broken heart might tell

Soon a cowboy here will charm you
Smooth words and tales he might employ
But if at times arms don’t warm you
Please don’t forget this poor cowboy
Please don’t forget this poor cowboy

(Instrumental)

Happy he will be to please you
With romance that you will enjoy
But if in time grief besets you
Please don’t forget this poor cowboy
Please don’t forget this poor cowboy

Dear, how long will you forget me
It would be wrong if death destroys
But cold death itself will get me
If you forget this poor cowboy
If you forget this poor cowboy

New New Day (Larry W Jones 03/18/2019) (song #7482)

It’s a new new day since you came walking my way
It’s a day I’ve been dreaming of
My view of life was down until you came around
Yeah, it’s a new new day for love

I feel like singing swinging on a twinkling star
My heart feels splendid mended now
It’s a new new day since you came walking my way
You’re in my arms to stay I vow

(Instrumental)

My love life was just a trend of finding dead ends
And it was filled with push and shove
It’s a new new day since you came walking my way
Yeah, it’s a new new day for love

I feel like singing swinging on a twinkling star
My heart feels splendid mended now
It’s a new new day since you came walking my way
You’re in my arms to stay I vow
Yeah, it’s a new new day right now

Dream Designer (Larry W Jones 03/18/2019) (song #7483)

She’s my dream designer, no one’s finer
My blue skies she designed are without rain
She’s my dream designer, canvas signer
Yeah, dream designer is her name

She fixed my picture, love was the mixture
And repaired broken dreams of yesterday
She’s my dream designer, real diviner
Love’s future now is on display

(Instrumental)

Before she came into my life and dreams
My future was rolled up without a frame
But she painted my life with warm sun beams
Yeah, dream designer is her name

She’s my dream designer, no one’s finer
My blue skies she designed are without rain
She’s my dream designer, canvas signer
Yeah, dream designer is her name
Yeah, dream designer is her name

Buds And Roses (Larry W Jones 03/19/2019) (song #7484)

I’ll pull a bouquet of buds and roses
And then I’ll tie a ribbon around them
If you’ll think each day while you’re gone away
Of the lonely homebound girl who bound them

I’ll pick the earliest bud that put forth
And only those roses lasting longest
Buds and roses that spring for fairest birth
Will cling to the green stems that are strongest

(Instrumental)

Now I’ve strolled along the splendorous walks
And have searched among the morning dew, sir
Here are buds and roses on tender stalks
Which I have gathered for only you, sir

Please take this bouquet of buds and roses
With the ribbon tied closely around them
Now, please think each day while you’re gone away
Of the lonely homebound girl who bound them

Half Way (Larry W Jones 03/20/2019) (song #7485)

Half way, you came into my life
Half way, you came to be my wife
But no such vows were ever made
All my dreams of love you betrayed
I’m left half way of care and strife

Half way, I came to owning you
Half way, you came to say I do
Then someone new to me appeared
And somehow you then disappeared
How winter turned to May, half way

(Instrumental)

Half way, I saw you wear my ring
Half way, I heard the blue birds sing
But I heard footsteps in the hall
And saw your writing on the wall
Half way, you became my true dream

Half way, you were mine all alone
Half way, we sang a lovely song
But that sweet tune came to an end
Half way through love words that were penned
How blessings were conferred, half way

Adios Sunrise (Larry W Jones 03/21/2019) (song #7486)

Adios sunrise, I’m leaving but I have a plan
No grieving sunrise, I’ll return as soon as I can
I’ll be lonely too and if our tears should start falling
We’ll think of each other when each new day starts calling

Adios sunrise, keep your eyes of blue full of love
Adios sunrise, the skies will be bluer above
Don’t worry your head, I’ll walk the line as when we wed
Goodbye, Adios sunrise until I’m home again

Adios sunrise (Adios sunrise until I’m home again)

(Instrumental)

Adios sunrise, keep your eyes of blue full of love
Adios sunrise, the skies will be bluer above
Don’t worry your head, I’ll walk the line as when we wed
Goodbye, Adios sunrise until I’m home again

Don’t worry your head, I’ll walk the line as when we wed
Goodbye, Adios sunrise until I’m home again
Adios sunrise (Adios sunrise until I’m home again)

Under The Silver Moon With My Guitar (Larry W Jones 03/23/2019) (song #7487)

The silver moon is on the rise
Millions of diamond stars are twinkling bright
Summer breeze is murmuring by
Leaves on trees are whispering with delight

Come my love, roam with me afar
Under the silver moon with my guitar
Come my love, roam with me afar
Under the silver moon with my guitar

(Instrumental)

Waters over the lake are clear
Moonbeams come upon the surface to play
My canoe for two is right here
Come my love and let us now drift away

Come my love, roam with me afar
Under the silver moon with my guitar
Come my love, roam with me afar
Under the silver moon with my guitar

Come my love, roam with me afar
Under the silver moon with my guitar

Faded Roses (Larry W Jones 03/24/2019) (song #7488)

I discovered some faded roses
Placed in an old suitcase of mine
They looked sweeter than a prose is
That’s written about love divine

In those sweet old faded roses
I still could smell a hint of June
And in them all there still dozes
Love that faded as does the moon

It was then I longed for those hours
And golden days that springtime bore
There were then no faded roses
For all was love in days of yore

Gently I held faded roses
And begged once more for love divine
But that old love still reposes
Returned to an old suitcase of mine

It was then I longed for those hours
And golden days that springtime bore
There were then no faded roses
For all was love in days of yore

Gently I held faded roses
And begged once more for love divine
But that old love still reposes
Returned to an old suitcase of mine

Nothing Else To Do (Larry W Jones 03/24/2019) (song #7489)

Well, Summer was over and my sheep were all shorn
The meadows were cut and I’d harvested my corn
Now, Mary’s house was nearby so plainly in view
So, down I went for there was nothing else to do

Soon, down in yonder valley together we sat
Where we passed away the hours in nothingness chat
Told Mary I loved her and hoped she’d love me too
We’d love each other for we’d nothing else to do

Mary hung her head and with blushes she replied
I have loved you always and wish to be your bride
With no hesitation I told her what was true
We would marry for there was nothing else to do

To the next big village Mary and I did roam
We searched for the town justice and found him at home
Paid the fee for him to make the one of us two
He married us for he had nothing else to do

Mary and I lived in happiness and content
For we had no sorrows or reasons to repent
Even our nearby neighbors were loyal and true
We loved them all for we had nothing else to do

Now, years brought change I should tell you how in this space
Our cottage was small and wanting in living space
We’re raising healthy lads and rosy lassies too
We love our kids who gave us something else to do

Nearly Dawn In Dallas (Larry W Jones 03/25/2019) (song #7490)

Well, it’s nearly dawn in Dallas with you still on my mind
I haven’t slept a wink since bedtime when I closed the blinds
This will be another dreary day til the sun is gone
Yeah, it’s nearly dawn in Dallas and I’m here home alone

It’s nearly dawn in Dallas and my mind just can’t get free
The sun is soon to rise on an old faded memory
I tried to sleep and tried to dream of times when you were mine
Yeah, it’s nearly dawn in Dallas with you still on my mind

(Instrumental)

Soon I’ll make morning coffee and maybe I’ll see clearer
Give myself a close shave and face myself in the mirror
It’s nearly dawn in Dallas and a new day will begin
I give a yawn and roll out knowing you won’t come again

Well, it’s nearly dawn in Dallas with you still on my mind
I haven’t slept a wink since bedtime when I closed the blinds
This will be another dreary day til the sun is gone
Yeah, it’s nearly dawn in Dallas and I’m here home alone

It’s nearly dawn in Dallas and I’m still here home alone

Wreath Of Roses (Larry W Jones 03/25/2019) (song #7491)

She wore a wreath of roses on the night that we first met
Her lovely face was smiling with hair curls as black as jet
Her footstep dance had lightness and her voice a magic tone
That came from a youthful heart where pain and woe was unknown
I saw her but a moment yet I feel I see her now
With a wreath of red roses there upon her lovely brow

A wreath of orange blossoms when next time we met she wore
The meaning of her display held more deep thought than before
Her dear mother by her side was one who her child intoned
To try and soothe her one daughter who now was leaving home
I saw her but a moment yet I feel I see her now
With a wreath of orange blossoms upon her lovely brow

Once again I see that brow but no bridal wreath is there
A widow’s gray somber hood hides once luxuriant hair
She weeps in her solitude and now there is no one near
To hold her hand in his own and wipe away lonely tears
I see her brokenhearted yet I feel I see her now
In pride of youth and beauty with a garland on her brow

She wore a wreath of roses…

A Lone Forsaken Man (Larry W Jones 03/25/2019) (song #7492)

Tell her she lingers yet as in those bygone years
Tell her since last we met my eyes have only tears
Tell her my wistful smile still has the lookl of care
My heart is dark with guile so what’s she doing here

How do mem’ries return from where all’s dim and lone
Like some lamp that still burns beneath a marker stone
Better that ones should sleep without a worldly care
Mem’ries should never sweep ‘cross a heart in despair

(Instrumental)

Tell her I yearn in pain with two arms reaching high
Asking to meet again on this earth when I die
Tell her that now I pray for just a remedy
For dreams to melt away that leaves such memories

Tell her my life has lost its ability to soothe
Tell her that visions’ cost have worn away my youth
Tell her what life is worth when it reveals no plan
As I stand here on earth a lone forsaken man

Maid Of Spain (Larry W Jones 03/25/2019) (song #7493)

Maid of Spain before we part
Give, oh give me back my heart
Or, since it has left my breast
Keep it love and own the rest
Hear my vow before I go
Mi Corazon te amo

Where oh where did love begin
Must have been on Spanish wind
By the sea where waters spray
I kissed her cheek right away
Dark eyes shined just like the doe
Mi Corazon te amo

Her sweet lips I longed to taste
Arms encircled slender waist
All the flowers now can tell
That I love her oh so well
I must leave mid joy and woe
Mi Corazon te amo

Maid of Spain now I am gone
Think of me when you’re alone
My world, my dreams have been stole
For Spain holds my heart and soul
Will love end, I answer no
Mi Corazon te amo

A New Full Moon And An Old Flame (Larry W Jones 03/26/2019) (song #7494)

The bright southern moon was full and golden
Sailing blue waters of Pacific seas
A flame burned in my heart that was olden
Long after she had said goodbye to me

They say love can rise just like a phoenix
When the full moon and the timing is right
I never dreamed of something more scenic
Than when I saw your face again tonight

(Instrumental)

A new full moon and an old flame still burns
I believe an old romance can come true
With the magic of chance and as time turns
A new full moon and an old flame that’s you

As we danced we recalled all the old times
And spoke of comings and goings since then
And as time passed we read between the lines
That those same old feelings were there again

(Instrumental)

Oh, I knew just where all this was leading
For the moment that our hands touched I knew
Our old love was still there and still beneath
A new full moon and an old flame that’s you

A new full moon and an old flame still burns
I believe an old romance can come true
With the magic of chance and as time turns
A new full moon and an old flame that’s you

It’s Your Dime (Larry W Jones 03/27/2019) (song #7495)

We sing the songs of things like wrongs
Feeding dimes to an old juke box
Well it’s your dime so take your time
But tell me now what really rocks

It’s your dime and it’s time to work things out
But don’t feed me lines that might cause me doubt
You feel sad and I’m not glad you’re alone
It’s your dime and it’s time to get along

Select a gold record that’s old
About a flame that now is cold
Well it’s your dime so take your time
See if there’s still something to hold

(Instrumental)

We sing the songs of things like wrongs
Feeding dimes to an old juke box
Well it’s your dime so take your time
But tell me now what really rocks

It’s your dime and it’s time to work things out
But don’t feed me lines that might cause me doubt
You feel sad and I’m not glad you’re alone
It’s your dime and it’s time to get along

Well, it’s your dime so play a song
That will help us to get along
Well it’s your dime so take your time
See if there’s still something to hold

Under The Green Live Oak Tree (Larry W Jones 03/27/2019) (song #7496)

Here under the green live oak tree
I pass the time and high noon hour
More contented I am than he
Who seeks only a courtly bower

For near me grows a wildwood rose
With bright blue skies showing above
There sings the meadow lark who knows
The truest notes of endless love

Here under the green live oak tree
I pass the time and high noon hour
More contented I am than he
Who seeks only a courtly bower
Oh, come and recline dear with me
Here under the green live oak tree

Butterflies spread their monarch wings
And a babbling stream flows by
Many a deer now hails the spring
Watching eagles in summer sky

For narrow halls and parlor walls
They hold no strong desire for me
Creation’s song to me it calls
Here under the green live oak tree

Here under the green live oak tree
I pass the time and high noon hour
More contented I am than he
Who seeks only a courtly bower
Oh, come and recline dear with me
Here under the green live oak tree

Illinois Central Line (Larry W Jones 03/27/2019) (song #7497)

Now, everybody calls me Hobo Jones
I don’t fit in my clothes, just skin and bones
Oh, but I can still hop an old boxcar
Look out the door and view the stars that shine
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line

When I hear that low southbound whistle blow
I know it’s time for Hobo Jones to go
Down to New Orleans and the Gulf shores brine
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line

(Instrumental)

I had me a lady in Illinois
She made too much noise bout my hobo life
So I hopped a freight to escape the strife
Now everything is working out just fine
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line

Hear the clack of the rolling railroad wheels
After New Orleans I’ll roll to Mobile
This hobo life suits my lifestyle just fine
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line
Rolling on the Illinois Central Line

Now, everybody calls me Hobo Jones
The Illinois Central Line’s rolling on

Valley Love (Larry W Jones 03/29/2019) (song #7498)

Here within this valley wide
Often we met together
She would be my valley bride
All would be summer weather

Green was the color of boughs
In this valley so shaded
Autumn leaves are fallen now
Like our love that’s now faded
Like our love that’s now faded

(Instrumental)

Her dear heart I thought I owned
In this sweet valley bower
But now summer birds have flown
As well as valley flowers

Oh, her memory will stay
Though she has now departed
Valley love has had its day
I will stay broken hearted
I will stay broken hearted

Driving Down An Old Town Road (Larry W Jones 03/29/2019) (song #7499)

Well, I’m drivin’ my pickup down an old town road
Goin’ to a rodeo I ain’t rode before
Drivin’ my F-150 down an old town road
Gonna ride a bull until my back side is sore

Got an old one horse trailer on the bumper hitch
Tack and saddle ain’t new but they’re a perfect match
My Stetson’s just a 5X with a broken stitch
Drivin’ for another eight second riders patch

I’m drivin’ down an old town road
With an old cowboy’s pickup load
F-150 ain’t bein’ towed
Yeah, drivin’ down an old town road

(Instrumental)

Back on the farm I drive an old John Deere tractor
Ten hours a day ain’t good by nobody’s factor
Seen the sign about a rodeo so I slowed
Now I’m drivin’ my pickup down an old town road

Got an old one horse trailer on the bumper hitch
Tack and saddle ain’t new but they’re a perfect match
My Stetson’s just a 5X with a broken stitch
Drivin’ for another eight second riders patch

I’m drivin’ down an old town road
With an old cowboy’s pickup load
F-150 ain’t bein’ towed
Yeah, drivin’ down an old town road

Yeah, I’m drivin’ my pickup down an old town road

The Mariner Boy (Larry W Jones 03/29/2019) (song #7500)

They buried him not in an earthen grave
Where weeds and bushes would soon show closure
No, the mariner boy lies ‘neath the waves
Where pretty mermaids are watching over

The mariner boy won’t be forgotten
Pretty mermaids are there watching over
Though all sailors know and feel downtrodden
Pretty mermaids are there watching over

The fish that travel through the briny deep
In the deep sea that’s silent day and night
Will pause along their way but not to weep
Whether sunlight shines or when stars are bright

Nothing will disturb the all stillness there
Even wind of stormy night when driven
No disturbance for the mariner boy
For the echo of life has been given

The mariner boy won’t be forgotten
Pretty mermaids are there watching over
Though all sailors know and feel downtrodden
Pretty mermaids are there watching over

They buried him not in an earthen grave
Where weeds and bushes would soon show closure
No, the mariner boy lies ‘neath the waves
Where pretty mermaids are watching over

Nothing Is Amiss At Missing You (Larry W Jones 03/29/2019) (song #7500)

Crosswords, nothing is amiss at doing crosswords
Even though I stop trying when about two thirds
I tell myself that I insist I don’t miss you
Doorbell, nothing is amiss with my old doorbell
Even though it stopped ringing where only I dwell
I miss you, nothing is amiss at missing you

Nothing is amiss at missing you
I try to dismiss my crying too
I knew this would be making me blue
Nothing is amiss at missing you

(Instrumental)

Window panes, nothing is amiss with window panes
Even though I stare out of them and call your name
I insist to my mind my heart is not in pain
Coffee, nothing is amiss with my morning brew
Even though I forget how many spoons go through
I miss you, nothing is amiss at missing you

Nothing is amiss at missing you
I try to dismiss my crying too
I knew this would be making me blue
Nothing is amiss at missing you

After I Write All Their Songs (Larry W Jones 04/03/2019) (song #7502)

When the writing is over and my fingers start to groan
It’s like someone’s slighting my efforts to keep writing on
Nobody knows the hit maker that I’ve been for so long
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

I smile and write the songs that cheer the big star singers bones
But this old background empty feeling keeps on hanging on
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

(Instrumental)

All the world is a stage but not for those who only write
I’m starting to show my age, my fingers are turning white
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs
Sometimes I wish the spotlight would shine on me right or wrong
Big singers take the glory after I write all their songs

Don’t Ask Why My Face Is Pale (Larry W Jones 04/04/2019) (song #7503)

I beg you don’t ask why my face is pale
Or why my eyes look dim
How can a man smile when the girl he loves
Smiles back but not at him

Can he be unmoved by a changing eye
Or voice constrained and cold
And a man’s heart can’t be denied a sigh
With a love he can’t hold

(Instrumental)

It’s so heartless that her lie is a game
And from me she now turns
I have tried and tried to quench that old flame
That In my heart still burns

I beg you don’t ask why my face is pale
Or dim my days appear
Don’t ask why my heart sighs to no avail
Or why my eyes have tears

Here I Come (Larry W Jones 04/05/2019) (song #7504)

If you’re calling for a fresh love
Here I come
Or asking for a success love
Here I come

Darling, I can come day or night
Any time or way that seems right
If you are wishing on a star
Here I come

If you have ever felt lonely
Or felt sad and however blue
If you need someone’s love that’s true
Here I come

If you’re calling for a fresh love
Here I come
Or asking for a success love
Here I come

Here I come love
Here I come

Book Of Splendor (Larry W Jones 04/07/2019) (song #7505)

To youth the world’s an open book
Of such new and pleasant splendor
He reads it by a running brook
That toward the wide sea meanders

Life’s book whispers through leaves of trees
On waves of grain and dewy grass
And on the wings of honey bees
As to their hive when buzzing past

(Instrumental)

The moon’s full glow and stars above
To all their beauty is given
This book of splendor is God’s love
To shine upon earth and Heaven

This book of splendor read aright
Is never done in a hurry
So may we all take much delight
In God’s own book of poetry

Pick My Heart Up Off The Ground (Larry W Jones 04/07/2019) (song #750)

Well, once again I’m off and cryin’
And it’s worse the second time around
I don’t think you were even tryin’
Think I’ll pick my heart up off the ground

Now I can see the snows of Winter
Spring, Summer and the Fall can’t be found
The door has closed so love can’t enter
Think I’ll pick my heart up off the ground

(Instrumental)

Well, once again I’m off and cryin’
And it’s worse the second time around
I don’t think you were even tryin’
Think I’ll pick my heart up off the ground

I’ll go some place where love can’t find me
Cause what’s the use in hanging around
Some place where your mem’ry’s behind me
Where old discarded hearts don’t abound

Oh, it’s worse the second time around
Think I’ll pick my heart up off the ground
Think I’ll pick my heart up off the ground
Pick my heart up off the ground

Call Of The Brave (Larry W Jones 04/07/2019) (song #7507)

Let him go to his home in the far distant west
Where the call of the brave is in innocence blessed
Where the tall redwoods grow and cool mountain streams flow
To the call of the brave let him go, let him go

Let him go to the place where big waterfalls play
Where he once played in his young and brave boyhood days
Let him greet his dear mother whose heart overflows
With her call of the brave, let him go, let him go

Let him go to his father and be by his side
Battle scarred he will welcome his son home with pride
Treaties were broken and the white man was his foe
To his old brave chieftain, let him go, let him go

Let him go to Red Wing his lone Indian maid
Who waits for him in the cottonwood’s cooling shade
Her heart is like the fawn and as pure as the snow
To his pretty Red Wing let him go, let him go

Let him go to his wild and hilly western home
And no more from its pleasures will the brave one roam
Til his ashes are scattered where green grasses grow
To the call of the brave let him go, let him go

Cowboy’s Barn Dance (Larry W Jones 04/08/2019) (song #7508)

Cowboys come, work is done
Get your gal, let us go
Cowboy’s barn dance is fun
With fiddle and the bow

Cowboys come, the sun is sinking
It’s fading in the golden west
And the purple sage is drinking
Dewdrops forming at their early best
From the cattle trails you’re riding
And train tracks with cattle siding
Dance the cowboy’s barn dance tonight

(Instrumental)

Cowboys come, work is done
Get your gal, let us go
Cowboy’s barn dance is fun
With fiddle and the bow

Cowboys come, day’s work is ended
The western stars are shining bright
Cowboy songs with music blended
Will cheer your cowgirl on tonight
Cowboys come, now do some prancing
You know your gal wants romancing
Dance the cowboy’s barn dance tonight

Dance the cowboy’s barn dance tonight

Mississippi Delta Queen (Larry W Jones 04/08/2019) (song #7509)

I see the queen a-comin’, rollin’ round the river bend
Her pretty shape’s a-growin’, getting’ closer to be seen
That boat’s a-comin’ to take me down to old New Orleans
My heart’s a-hummin’ for the Mississippi Delta Queen

Mississippi Delta Queen rollin’ along
Old steam pipe calliope whistlin’ a song
Leave all my cares behind up the river stream
Carry me home Mississippi River Queen

Catfish am a-jumpin’ behind her big ol paddle wheel
My mind is addled when I feel that gulf coast southern stream
Smoke stack showin’ her prime will get her down the line on time
There ain’t no slowin’ that ol Mississippi Delta Queen

Mississippi Delta Queen rollin’ along
Old steam pipe calliope whistlin’ a song
Leave all my cares behind up the river stream
Carry me home Mississippi River Queen

Magnolia trees, honey suckle vines growin’ for me
Round the old homestead that’s been callin’ for so long to me
Gotta get back to New Orleans and my Cajun routine
Got my road sack on the Mississippi Delta Queen

Mississippi Delta Queen rollin’ along
Old steam pipe calliope whistlin’ a song
Leave all my cares behind up the river stream
Carry me home Mississippi River Queen

King Of My Eminent Domain (Larry W Jones 04/10/2019) (song #7510)

Well, I could see that it was eminent
And that it would bring with it heartfelt pain
You left and I’m the only element
I’m the king of my eminent domain

Now no one can command me what to do
And I have almost everything to gain
Oh, cause I now have nothing without you
But I’m king of my eminent domain

(Instrumental)

My every wish I command for myself
For I feel I might be long at my reign
And I’m a man whose heart is on the shelf
One sad king of my eminent domain

You said you would rather live without me
As I look out my empty castle pane
Now there’s a need to forgive about me
As the king of my eminent domain

(Instrumental)

At night I hear the winds of Winter moan
Most of the time here comes the cold and rain
I play solitaire alone on my throne
Joker king of my eminent domain

Now no one can command me what to do
And I have almost everything to gain
Oh, cause I now have nothing without you
But I’m king of my eminent domain

King of my eminent domain

Tarmac Troubadour (Larry W Jones 04/13/2019) (song #7511)

Morning sunshine has lightened up the skies
While beside her my eyes are opened wide
Truck is loaded with a high canvas load
So, here I go, the tarmac troubadour

With coffee thermos I climb in the cab
Soon I’ll be rollin’ on the superslab
Now make this big Mack bulldog diesel roar
One run more for the tarmac troubadour

(Instrumental)

Chicago will soon be comin’ in sight
Drivin’ all day and now it’s stormy night
Thinkin’ of my darlin’ with all my might
Homebound track for the tarmac troubadour

Soon I’ll be right back in her arms again
Until then I’ll be rollin’ like the wind
Got my right foot and pedal on the floor
Home’s callin’ for the tarmac troubadour

Got my right foot and pedal on the floor
Home’s callin’ for the tarmac troubadour

Hills Of Old Wyoming (Larry W Jones 04/13/2019) (song #7512)

I feel the chill of the hills of old Wyoming
Riding along in the early morning gloaming
But my will is strong as I move cattle along
For the old hills of old Wyoming is my home

Back down the trail I could see my end horizon
Wyoming is the land of cowboys and bison
Where cool mist from off the purple sage is rising
Just a new page from the hills of old Wyoming

(Instrumental)

The new sunny morning awakens with a song
Seems to me like nothing in this world can go wrong
As I move these longhorns and young dogies along
For the old hills of old Wyoming is my home

I feel the chill of the hills of old Wyoming
Riding along in the early morning gloaming
But my will is strong as I move cattle along
For the old hills of old Wyoming is my home

But my will is strong as I move cattle along
For the old hills of old Wyoming is my home

Far Away Places (Larry W Jones 04/14/2019) (song #7513)

Far away places with western styled names
Far away wild and free
Far away places with western styled names
They’re drawin’, drawin’ me

On a conestoga, maybe a stage
Any coach will do fine
Far away places where grows purple sage
A western home will be mine

(Instrumental)

I read all about it at the news stand
And the message seemed strange
But I dreamed about my own cattle brand
Out on the prairie range

City folks told me I wouldn’t fit in
I told them wait and see
Far away places with western styled names
They’re drawin’, drawin’ me

(Instrumental)

City folks told me I wouldn’t fit in
I told them wait and see
Far away places with western styled names
They’re drawin’, drawin’ me

Today I’m away on a long journey
The West I’m gonna see
Far away places with western styled names
They’re drawin’, drawin’ me

Caught Up In Horse Country (Larry W Jones 04/14/2019) (song #7514)

Top rail, round pen
Horses running
Sun wrinkled men

Wood frame, barn doors
Stalls lined with hay
Cold morning chores

Cow trails all through the prairie grass
Cottonwoods where bald eagles nest
Where only antelope trespass
That’s where I am where life is best

Caught up in horse country
The only life for me
Forever never ends
Caught up in horse country
I never felt so free
Horse country dividends

Bull whips, rawhide
Dogies bawling
Horses in stride

Yip yip, hooray
Round ‘em up men
Brand ‘em today

The western sky is a canvas
Painted by God’s knowing finger
Here my worries are all banished
In horse country I will linger

Caught up in horse country
The only life for me
Forever never ends
Caught up in horse country
I never felt so free
Horse country dividends

Working Man Blue Collar Blues (Larry W Jones 04/21/2019) (song #7515)

Now, it’s a job raising a family of nine
Been a hard working man on the assembly line
From nine to five I think I’ve paid my dues
I’ve got the working man blue collar blues

Got my nose to the grindstone every working day
Hard on the backbone but wife and kids need my pay
Weekends off but Monday with the crew
I’ve got the working man blue collar blues

(Instrumental)

I need a change but ain’t no other jobs around
The local grange is the only support in town
Bought one new dress and nine pairs of shoes
I’ve got the working man blue collar blues

A blue collar man, a blue collar man like me
Small town dollars but not on welfare will I be
A strong back and calloused hands to use
I’ve got the working man blue collar blues

A blue collar man, a blue collar man like me
I’ve got the working man blue collar blues

Uptown Part Of Old Downtown (Larry W Jones 04/22/2019) (song #7516)

Well, which way is up and which way is down
Somehow I fear it may never be found
I’m searching for the uptown part of old downtown

Yeah, I’ve been searching throughout day and night
Some folks tell me turn left and others right
I’m searching for the uptown part of old downtown

My darlin’ told me that’s where she would be
There must be something down there that she’s found
Something or someone, gotta find that scene
She’s somewhere in the uptown part of old downtown

(Instrumental)

I’ll keep on searching with all of my might
Find out if her love for me is alright
I’m searching for the uptown part of old downtown

My darlin’ told me that’s where she would be
There must be something down there that she’s found
Something or someone, gotta find that scene
She’s somewhere in the uptown part of old downtown

Sourdough Sam (Larry W Jones 04/24/2019) (song #7517)

Well, I had a good pal named Sourdough Sam
He was a wrangler the same as I am
On the old Chisholm Trail from San Antone
Up to Abilene we would soon ride on

Ride on, ride on Sourdough Sam
True grit wrangler as I am
Your new wife will understand
Chisholm Trail needs a good man

Now, a stampede sends wild longhorns off track
Sourdough Sam and I rode to get ‘em back
Many a good cowboy I have seen fall
And some of them never came back at all

Ride on, ride on Sourdough Sam
True grit wrangler as I am
Your new wife will understand
Chisholm Trail needs a good man

Lightning cracked above Sourdough Sam and me
The rain poured down and it was hard to see
Sourdough Sam spit in the wild longhorn’s face
And the Chisholm Trail claimed another race

Ride on, ride on Sourdough Sam
True grit wrangler as I am
Your new wife will understand
Chisholm Trail needs a good man

That was a wild ride in the wind and rain
Sourdough Sam rode like the hero John Wayne
We buried old Sam where coyotes wail
Before Abilene on the Chisholm Trail

Ride on, ride on Sourdough Sam
True grit wrangler as I am
Your new wife won’t understand
Chisholm Trail claimed a good man

The Wayfarer (Larry W Jones 04/25/2019) (song #7518)

He rode across the wastelands as a teen
Discovering the wild not often seen
He learned quite a lot and learned to survive
The wayfarer saw the dead and alive

The wayfarer, life is lonely
Byway of the one and only
The wayfarer, solitary
Riding across life’s wide prairie

The wastelands left him with a roving mind
That’s still growing with the passage of time
He’s been many places but unreconciled
The wayfarer wears the face of the wild

The wayfarer, life is lonely
Byway of the one and only
The wayfarer, solitary
Riding across life’s wide prairie

Home is where the lonely wayfarer goes
Where home is only the wayfarer knows
The wayfarer knows life is take and give
He has given all for this life to live

The wayfarer, life is lonely
Byway of the one and only
The wayfarer, solitary
Riding across life’s wide prairie

Numb to life’s lecture
Alive for the venture

Sundown (Larry W Jones 04/26/2019) (song #7519)

Sorrow comes and finds me around sundown
With blue shades of your memories
Casting lengthy shadows on this small town
Where you will forget about me

Daydreams come to haunt me around sundown
Visions that never will come true
Tomorrow might bring a nervous breakdown
But sundown knows how I love you

Hours seem like forever around sundown
When I never know what to do
My face is like a clown wearing a frown
Sundown will bid our love adieu

(Instrumental)

Daydreams come to haunt me around sundown
Visions that never will come true
Tomorrow might bring a nervous breakdown
But sundown knows how I love you

Hours seem like forever around sundown
When I never know what to do
My face is like a clown wearing a frown
Sundown will bid our love adieu

Sundown, sundown, oh sundown

Somewhere North Of Nashville (Larry W Jones 04/25/2019) (song #7520)

Well, I know she’s somewhere north of Nashville
Her letter was posted at Bowling Green
So I guess she’s driving through Kentucky
At somewhere north of Nashville Tennessee

Now, I know I’ve gotta go and find her
To see why our love has taken a chill
Still her true love I’ll try to remind her
She’s traveling somewhere north of Nashville

Somewhere north of Nashville is my lost love
Somewhere in Kentucky, maybe Louisville
Need to find out what she’s feeling crossed of
She’s out of state somewhere north of Nashville

(Instrumental)

Now, I know I’ve gotta go and find her
To see why our love has taken a chill
Still her true love I’ll try to remind her
She’s traveling somewhere north of Nashville

Somewhere north of Nashville is my lost love
Somewhere in Kentucky, maybe Louisville
Need to find out what she’s feeling crossed of
She’s out of state somewhere north of Nashville

Somewhere north of Nashville is my lost love

Tucson Train (Larry W Jones 04/25/2019) (song #7521)

Well, I grew up hearing some long tall tales
On my old grandpa’s knee he made it plain
He rode with the outlaws by long steel rails
Jesse and Billy robbed the Tucson train

For hours I sat upon his bowlegged knees
Listened to his stories of Jesse James
With Billy and Jesse grandpa told me
How they all three ambushed the Tucson train

Grandpa told of Billy and other things
He was called The Kid who went down in fame
At robbing trains he was the youngest king
And the other king’s name was Jesse James

For hours I sat upon his bowlegged knees
Listened to his stories of Jesse James
With Billy and Jesse grandpa told me
How they all three ambushed the Tucson train

Well, I grew up and my grandpa grew old
He rode horses and now I ride airplanes
I figured out that the tall tales he told
Belong in story books with western aims

For hours I sat upon his bowlegged knees
Listened to his stories of Jesse James
With Billy and Jesse grandpa told me
How they all three ambushed the Tucson train

Well, grandpa’s funeral drew quite a crowd
Two cowboy’s faces were forlorn and strained
They were strangers and I heard a low sound
As both of them disappeared in the rain

I remember faces forlorn and strained
Both old cowboys called out my grandpa’s name
And the sound I heard was a sound of fame
It was the low horn of the Tucson train

Western StarsTitle (Larry W Jones 04/25/2019) (song #7522)

The midnight range has western stars
That never change and shine so bright
I know some names of western stars
That light the prairie grass tonight

The big longhorns low while grazing
Along with young dogies til dawn
Western stars keep watch over them
While I get my sleep with big yawns

Like bright candles in the heavens
Western stars are far and so strange
It’s like heaven just to see them
Western stars of the midnight range

(Instrumental)

The big longhorns low while grazing
Along with young dogies til dawn
Western stars keep watch over them
While I get my sleep with big yawns

Like bright candles in the heavens
Western stars are far and so strange
It’s like heaven just to see them
Western stars of the midnight range

Sleepy Joe’s CaféTitle (Larry W Jones 04/27/2019) (song #7523)

On Galveston Isle where the shorebirds call
Fishermen come each day
Just before daylight when the blue crabs crawl
And the sun lights the way
They talk about the bay and coming squall
Down at Sleepy Joe’s cafe

Sleepy Joe’s café, Sleepy Joe’s café
The day starts early at Sleepy Joe’s café
Before the sun shines its first ray
Fishermen are down at Sleepy Joe’s café

(Instrumental)

On Galveston Isle where the gull wings fly
Is where I love to play
Cause I grew up as a Galveston guy
Here’s what I have to say
I’m now an old fisherman certified
Down at Sleepy Joe’s cafe

Sleepy Joe’s café, Sleepy Joe’s café
The day starts early at Sleepy Joe’s café
Before the sun shines its first ray
Fishermen are down at Sleepy Joe’s cafe

I’m now an old fisherman certified
Down at Sleepy Joe’s cafe

Hitch Hikin (Larry W Jones 04/27/2019) (song #7524)

I need a lovebug bite so I’ll where to scratch
If it’s on my back I’ll have to cut a switch
I need love bad and I hope to find my match
I’m hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch

Well, I used to hold my darlin’ close to me
She was playin’ my heart with a curveball pitch
Now I’m on my own and no true love I see
I’m hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch

(Instrumental)

I need a lovebug bite on these lips of mine
And I don’t mind if she’s poor or stinkin’ rich
As long as her sweet lips taste like cherry wine
I’m hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch

My heart’s a-racin’ fast and my feet are too
Gettin’ close cause my eyes are startin’ to twitch
A car’s slowin’ down and the girl’s eyes are blue
I’m hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch

A car’s slowin’ down and the girl’s eyes are blue
I’m hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch
Hitch hikin’ for a lovebug likin’ itch

Stones (Larry W Jones 04/27/2019) (song #7525)

Now, some stones are good for throwing
Unless they’re words of displeasure
I was a rolling stone knowing
That I need stones that are treasured

A bright stone upon your finger
Set in a band of solid gold
Is better than flat stepping stones
And even a stone man can hold

(Instrumental)

Now, flat stones are good for skipping
On waters holding river stones
I was like a river slipping
Away from love rolling along

A bright stone would look so precious
As it sparkles on our wedding day
And my heart has learned its lesson
You polished this stone every way

(Instrumental)

Now, hard stones are good for grinding
And flint stones are sharp as a knife
But this rolling stone’s now finding
Need a polished stone for a wife

A bright stone upon your finger
Set in a band of solid gold
Is better than flat stepping stones
And even a stone man can hold

Oh, this rolling stone’s now finding
You’re the polished stone of my life

Chasin Wild Horses (Larry W Jones 04/27/2019) (song #7526)

He stood there casin’ the Big Gulch Ranch
North and west of Longmont getting’ late
The oldest greenhorn takin’ a chance
Chasin’ wild horses at sixty eight

It was a Wednesday twenty twelve
Lots to learn at love and sometimes hate
In chasin’ wild horses he would delve
And try to survive from gate to gate

Thursday’s outback ride was twenty miles
Meat and beans at the far end he ate
Twenty miles back saw not many smiles
Old bones were rattled and most would ache

Chasin’ wild horses at Friday noon
Brandin’ young dogies and hear them bawl
The big horse drive was a-comin’ soon
Chasin’ wild horses with yip yip calls

Far winter pastures on Saturday
Brown’s Park corral was the starting gate
To the Yampa River he raced drag
Chasin’ wild horses while dust he ate

Now, Sunday was big in small Maybell
As tired wranglers drove the horses through
Eight hundred head heard the wranglers yell
Thirty more miles to make sixty two

When the Big Gulch Ranch came into sight
The herd went wild like a rodeo scene
The oldest greenhorn rode with all might
Still chasin’ wild horses in his dreams

He stood there casin’ the Big Gulch Ranch
North and west of Longmont getting’ late
The oldest greenhorn takin’ a chance
Chasin’ wild horses at sixty eight

Rainbow At Sundown (Larry W Jones 04/28/2019) (song #7527)

After the trail drive was over
Riding home for Sue’s arms to hold
I saw a rainbow at sundown
Across a wide prairie of gold

The world was painted with soft glow
The moon rose toward heavens above
Your form I saw in the rainbow
So warm just like our own true love

(Instrumental)

I’ll soon be home on the prairie
Where Sue will be waiting I know
I know the rainbow at sundown
Will lead me to more than fine gold

There we will live life so happy
Raise a cowboy and cowgirl too
Our boy we will call Curly Joe
The rainbow reminds me of Sue

Now the long trail drive is over
And I’m home with Sue’s arms to hold
We see a rainbow at sundown
Across a wide prairie of gold

The Prairie Is Wide (Larry W Jones 04/29/2019) (song #7528)

The prairie is wide, I cannot ride o’er
And neither have I a good horse to ride
So, give me a coach that can carry four
And make room for two, my true love and I

Once I climbed a cottonwood tree
Thinking it was a mighty oak
Like my first love, my love and me
But she proved false and my heart broke

The prairie is wide, I cannot ride o’er
And neither have I a good horse to ride
So, give me a coach that can carry four
And make room for two, my true love and I

Once I crossed a small bab’ling stream
Searching for early flowers to find
The one I found filled all my dreams
But she proved false now she’s not mine

The prairie is wide, I cannot ride o’er
And neither have I a good horse to ride
So, give me a coach that can carry four
And make room for two, my true love and I

Once I sang a sweet song of love
Like the birds do when Spring is new
Now like the birds that fly above
This one at last has now proved true

The prairie is wide, I cannot ride o’er
And neither have I a good horse to ride
So, give me a coach that can carry four
And make room for two, my true love and I

Along For The Long Trail Drive (Larry W Jones 05/01/2019) (song #7529)

Well, I signed on the line in Waco
While hopin’ that I could stay alive
Movin’ cows on beans and potatoes
I’m just along for the long trail drive

I’m just along for the long trail drive
The Chisholm Trail ain’t just nine to five
And how the wind blows nobody knows
I’m just along for the long trail drive

(Instrumental)

Like a tumbleweed I got no roots
But in these boots at least I’ll arrive
Don’t believe in luck, horse don’t you buck
I’m just along for the long trail drive

At the end I’ll be payroll spendin’
With kings and queens and callin’ their bluffs
In Abilene be poker winnin’
Place an ace and that will be enough

(Instrumental)

Well, I signed on the line in Waco
While hopin’ that I could stay alive
Movin’ cows on beans and potatoes
I’m just along for the long trail drive

I’m just along for the long trail drive
The Chisholm Trail ain’t just nine to five
And how the wind blows nobody knows
I’m just along for the long trail drive

And how the wind blows nobody knows
I’m just along for the long trail drive

I Don’t Pick Up Pennies AnymoreTitle (Larry W Jones 04/02/2019) (song #7530)

When I was a kid I picked up pennies
I spent them all at the five and dime store
In my pockets I know I had many
More copper pennies I was looking for

I used to buy a lot of sweet candy
I shared it with a girl that I adored
She said that was neat and I was dandy
But I don’t pick up pennies anymore

(Instrumental)

Starbucks, I like to call them all Fourbucks
That’s the least you pay for a coffee pour
I lined up my pennies like mallard ducks
They pointed their fingers toward the front door

I used to buy a lot of sweet candy
I shared it with a girl that I adored
She said that was neat and I was dandy
But I don’t pick up pennies anymore

And I don’t go to Fourbucks that’s for sure

Carmen Estrella (Larry W Jones 05/07/2019) (song #7531)

Carmen Estrella, rose of the llano estacado
You won my heart by the Tejas Rio Colorado
Dry your eyes bonita senorita and don’t be blue
I’ll ride back to you my own lovely Carmen Estrella

Your name means song and star, that’s what you are
In all its glory
By the luna you are my fortuna
A divine story
Carmen Estrella, a new day’s dawning
And I’m wanting you, Carmen Estrella

(Instrumental)

Your name means song and star, that’s what you are
In all its glory
By the luna you are my fortuna
A divine story
Carmen Estrella, a new day’s dawning
And I’m wanting you, Carmen Estrella

Carmen Estrella, rose of the llano estacado
You won my heart by the Tejas Rio Colorado
Te amo mi Carmen Estrella

I Myself And Me (Larry W Jones 05/08/2019) (song #7532)

Oh, I wish I could be anyone but this one
Yes, I wish I could be anyone but this one
Just anyone but this one, I, myself and me
Cause I’m lonely as I can be

I thought I held a true love, the world in my hands
But now I’m a wounded dove and don’t understand
From turtledoving my broken heart has been banned
I’m lonely as I can be, I. myself and me

(Instrumental)

Oh, I’m not the same old one that I used to be
Yes, I wish I could be anyone but this one
Just anyone but this one, I, myself and me
Cause these old blues won’t set me free

Oh, I wish I could be anyone but this one
Yes, I wish I could be anyone but this one
Just anyone but this one, I, myself and me
Cause I’m lonely as I can be

Let me be someone else than I, myself and me

Worth Less Than Worthless (Larry W Jones 05/08/2019) (song #7533)

You tell your friends that I’m not the real deal
No wonder they don’t come around
And you just don’t care how it makes me feel
As long as you’re on your playground

Looks like you’re ready for leavin’
I’m not ready to beg you stay
Although you know I’ll be grievin’
The train station’s just down the way

Now I feel like I’m worth less than worthless
Those words are what I heard you say
So what’s the use when you feel so useless
Like me as you’re going away

(Instrumental)

Now I’ll celebrate your purpose
In leaving me here at our home
Guess I’m just worth less than worthless
But I guess I’m better alone

My watching you go is causing me pain
There’s a smile on your face that shows
Now I see you boarding the outbound train
Where you’re going nobody knows

You’re just like many down through the ages
Searching for a new daylight sun
I feeling down and worth less than worthless
Tomorrow you’ll be having fun

(Instrumental)

Now I feel like I’m worth less than worthless
Those words are what I heard you say
So what’s the use when you feel so useless
Like me as you’re going away

Now I’ll celebrate your purpose
In leaving me here at our home
Guess I’m just worth less than worthless
But I guess I’m better alone

Chisholm Trail Farewell (Larry W Jones 05/09/2019) (song #7534)

Cattle are being branded for the Chisholm Trail
And before tomorrow’s dawn we’ll be divided
Tonight a murmur on the wind will tell the tale
Of the real love between us God has provided

Reflections will return of our tender parting
The sweet charm of our living together as one
And of the warm memories that time is carving
In moonlight on the trail until the drive is done

Then we will ride the wide prairie once more
Then we will saddle for wind in our hair
Then we will waltz once more across the floor
With our own song of love forever there

(Instrumental)

Now under the moon the Chisholm Trail is sleeping
Up in the heavens a million stars brightly shine
They wait for the dawn and for a young bride’s weeping
As a cowboy tries to sleep then leaves her behind

Reflections will return of our tender parting
The sweet charm of our living together as one
And of the warm memories that time is carving
In moonlight on the trail until the drive is done

Then we will ride the wide prairie once more
Then we will saddle for wind in our hair
Then we will waltz once more across the floor
With our own song of love forever there

When I Take My Honey To The Moon (Larry W Jones 05/11/2019) (song #7535)

When I take my honey to the moon
All the other guys look and then swoon
I don’t take her near any of them
When I take my honey to the moon

Every Friday afternoon
I see her heavenly eyes
I make sure she’s not attune
With those other earthly guys

Now, I’m a regular Daniel Boone
I don’t need a following platoon
I don’t take her near any of them
When I take my honey to the moon

(Instrumental)

When I take my honey to the moon
Each day is a day in May or June
I don’t take her near any of them
When I take my honey to the moon

Every Friday afternoon
I see her heavenly eyes
I make sure she’s not attune
With those other earthly guys

Now, I’m a regular Daniel Boone
I don’t need a following platoon
I don’t take her near any of them
When I take my honey to the moon

Watermelon Stomp (Larry W Jones 05/28/2019) (song #7536)

Well, I was trav’ln through old Louisian
While driving through the Bayou La Croix swamp
Saw a sign painted by a Cajun man
Come this way to the watermelon stomp

That’s where I turned off down an old dirt road
And kept both eyes out for alligators
I heard rules of a party then bestowed
Spoken by the town administrator

We’ve pulled a lot of melons from the vine
And we’ve got alligator stew to chomp
Now don’t get drunk on watermelon wine
Before you do the watermelon stomp

The band played Zydeco right from the start
Then up stepped the watermelon sweetheart
She pulled off my shoes down to my bare feet
Then said let me teach you a dance that’s neat

Watermelons were cut and on the ground
We stomped them melons right down to the rind
Music played and we danced another round
Watermelon stomp and red melon wine

If you’re in Louisian’s Bayou La Croix
Take the road to that Louisiana swamp
I guarantee you’ll find a lot of joy
When you dance that old watermelon stomp

The band played Zydeco right from the start
Then up stepped the watermelon sweetheart
She pulled off my shoes down to my bare feet
Then said let me teach you a dance that’s neat

Watermelons were cut and on the ground
We stomped them melons right down to the rind
Music played and we danced another round
Watermelon stomp and red melon wine

Take the road to that Louisiana swamp
Where you dance that old watermelon stomp

Show Some Good Old Goodness (Larry W Jones 05/30/2019) (song #7537)

If you hear of a friend who’s feeling down
And there’s no one around to ease his frown
If you can comprehend what isn’t right
Just be a light to help him gain insight

Show some good old goodness
Don’t be slow with goodness
For goodness sakes you can be a friend indeed
Show some good old goodness
Don’t be slow with goodness
Help heal the ache in good old words and good deeds

Walk your talk when you talk of being good
And then you’ll know you stood up when you should
Goodness that you show no one has to know
Just help your friend in need who’s feeling low

Show some good old goodness
Don’t be slow with goodness
For goodness sakes you can be a friend indeed
Show some good old goodness
Don’t be slow with goodness
Help heal his aches in good old words and good deeds

Show some good old goodness
Don’t be slow with goodness
For goodness sakes you can be a friend indeed

Last Evening At Nine (Larry W Jones 06/04/2019) (song #7538)

This morning I awoke from a night dream
As I lay alone in this room of mine
Sometime in the night a light with its beam
Seemed to show you here last evening at nine

Tears I shed were bitter and all because of you
Like an inmate who is innocent of the crime
I remembered the time your words I thought were true
You vowed to wed another last evening at nine

My poor heart was broken as I began to cry
For then I realized you would never be mine
I circled the calendar though I don’t know why
I guess it’s when I lost you last evening at nine

(Instrumental)

Tears I shed were bitter and all because of you
Like an inmate who is innocent of the crime
I remembered the time your words I thought were true
You vowed to wed another last evening at nine

My poor heart was broken as I began to cry
For then I realized you would never be mine
I circled the calendar though I don’t know why
I guess it’s when I lost you last evening at nine

Big Wheels Roll At Midnight (Larry W Jones 06/18/2019) (song #7539)

Well, I grew up in a town called Little
I saw both ends standing in the middle
I’d sneak around downtown in the moonlight
And watch those great big wheels roll at midnight

I caught a big ‘ol case of restlessness
And both my feet gave chase to carelessness
No care I gave as to the wrong or right
I had to make big wheels roll at midnight

Well, I put my eye on the centerline
And I left that town like a man who’s blind
Though I knew I would never find daylight
Making eighteen big wheels roll at midnight

(Instrumental)

Well, I put my eye on the centerline
And I left that town like a man who’s blind
Though I knew I would never find daylight
Making eighteen big wheels roll at midnight

I’m still here driving on the long highway
Just hope the wife and kids back home don’t stray
When this run’s done I’ve got a song to write
About making big wheels roll at midnight

When this run’s done I’ve got a song to write
About making big wheels roll at midnight

Truck Driving Queen (Larry W Jones 06/19/2019) (song #7540)

She stopped at a small diner in Texas
Just on the outskirts of old Abilene
The jukebox was playing about exes
And one verse mentioned a truck driving queen

She ordered a cup of Folgers coffee
And she wore an older pair of blue jeans
Then she talked about her ex named Bobby
And how she became a truck driving queen

(Instrumental)

She ordered a cup of coffee to go
But then, before she left old Abilene
She turned and said that everyone should know
She’d been driving a truck when turned eighteen

She climbed in the cab of her old semi
And headed west out of old Abilene
Nobody saw her when she started to cry
She was the song of a truck driving queen

Nobody saw her when she started to cry
She was the song of a truck driving queen

Freightliner Diner (Larry W Jones 06/19/2019) (song #7541)

Well, I own a little place called the Freightliner Diner
In the middle of somewhere between New York and LA
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

I heard stories of a railroad that leads to Santa Fe
An old trucker said he wasn’t gonna tell me tall tales
Said he was driving the road beside it the other day
And he was going so fast he blew the train off the rails

(Instrumental)

Yeah, I own a little place called the Freightliner Diner
In the middle of somewhere between New York and LA
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

A man came in and took out a little bottle of pills
Said it was concentrated caffeine to keep him awake
They helped a lot when pulling Albuquerque’s Nine Mile Hill
Then he ordered more coffee just for good old goodness sake

(Instrumental)

Well, I own a little place called the Freightliner Diner
In the middle of somewhere between New York and LA
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

Old Red Sovine stopped in from the hills of West Virginia
He put a quarter in the jukebox and played Teddy Bear
Del Reeves dropped by on the way to Creole Louisiana
And that’s when the rockin’ Girl On The Billboard filled the air

(Instrumental)

Yeah, I own a little place called the Freightliner Diner
In the middle of somewhere between New York and LA
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

One day Boxcar Willie stopped in to say hello to us
Said he barely made it cause he almost ran out of luck
Back down the road he tried to pass a big ‘ol Greyhound bus
Got back in line just in time to miss a runaway truck

(Instrumental)

Yeah, I own a little place called the Freightliner Diner
In the middle of somewhere between New York and LA
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

I’ve heard it all from Tom McCall, and old Charley Pride
Moe Bandy, Micky Gilley and more stopped by on their ride
All the truckers say there ain’t nowhere to stop that’s finer
Than my Freightliner Diner when you’re on that long highway

Born For The Ramblin Road (Larry W Jones 06/20/2019) (song #7542)

Well, I was born for the ramblin’ road
Drivin’ big ‘ol trucks with heavy loads
And when they call me for haulin’
I can hear the road a-callin’
Cause I was born for the ramblin’ road

Daddy was a farmer in Georgia
But that plowin’ never was my goal
I was born with longing for ramblin’
Behind a plow I’d not be standin’
Cause I was born for the ramblin’ road

(Instrumental)

Today I’m drivin’ to New Orleans
Eight hours south of Nashville Tennessee
Stop at Lucille’s on Bayou Lafourche
Eat some good Creole gumbo cuisine
The ramblin’ road keeps on callin’ me

Drivin’ big ‘ol trucks with heavy loads
Freightliner camper is my abode
Understand that I’m a drivin’ man
Cause I was born for the ramblin’ road
Yeah, I was born for the ramblin’ road

Born for the rambling road

Last Of The Old Sunset Cowboys (Larry W Jones 06/21/2019) (song #7543)

His hat is battered and his jeans are tattered
His saddle could tell lots of tales
About riding the range and to places so strange
On a horse that knew all the trails

He rode the circuit from Alpine to Burkett
Like an old rolling stone that roams
The best of his dreams are the rodeo scenes
In an old Airstream trailer home

He’s the last of the old sunset cowboys
He hasn’t died and holds onto his pride
But he misses the loud cheers and the noise
He’s the last of the old sunset cowboys

(Instrumental)

With an old beat up guitar won at a bar
He hums a tune about his life
Somewhere between Alpine Texas and Burkett
He lost everything plus his wife

One pal that’s trusty, his old dog named Rusty
Listens to the words of his song
Once there were buddies all wrinkled and ruddy
But times got blurred and they’re all gone

(Instrumental)

He rode the circuit from Alpine to Burkett
Like an old rolling stone that roams
The best of his dreams are the rodeo scenes
In an old Airstream trailer home

He’s the last of the old sunset cowboys
He hasn’t died and holds onto his pride
But he misses the loud cheers and the noise
He’s the last of the old sunset cowboys

Forty Acres Of Cultivation (Larry W Jones 06/23/2019) (song #7544)

I cut the trees for the oak lumber
Foundation laid in heat of Summer
The cabin was home on the old farm
Built with my own back and two strong arms

Forty acres of cultivation
Wife and three kids and one dalmation
The best place in all of creation
Forty acres of good black land farm

(Instrumentall)

The sweet peach trees are now all dying
My farm the county now is buying
Forty acres of cultivation
Eminent Domain, their citation

A four lane road will be constructed
Must vacate now I’ve been instructed
Call it progress, my own donation
Forty acres of cultivation

(Instrumental)

Call it progress, my own donation
Forty acres of cultivation
The best place in all of creation
Forty acres of good black land farm

White River Rose (Larry W Jones 06/26/2019) (song #7545)

Flowing along through weary nights and days
A stream in Colorado goes its lonely way
One who lives beside its banks surely knows
That one day I’ll return to my White River rose

White River rose, you’re calling me
You’re the one of my lonely dreams
White River rose, I long to be
With you by that White River stream

(Instrumental)

When I get back to that small river shack
In the Colorado hills I’ll forget my ills
So, White River this love song I compose
For you will lead me back to my White River rose

White River rose (yodel) you’re calling me (yodel)
You’re the one of my lonely dreams (yodel)
For it’s with you (yodel) I long to be (yodel)
With you by that White River stream (yodel)

(Instrumental)

When I get back to that small river shack
In the Colorado hills I’ll forget my ills
So, White River this love song I compose
For you to lead me back to my White River rose

How Can You Harbor A Ship Of Love (Larry W Jones 06/30/2019) (song #7546)

How can you harbor a ship of love
When love has slipped and gone
How can you anchor a dream thereof
That with the wind has flown

How can you tie a love boat to land
When she left with the tide
How can you hold a dream in your hand
Like many times I tried

(Instrumental)

How can you harbor all tears that fall
When so many fall through
How can you tether a dream at all
When none of them come true

How can you harbor a ship of love
When love has slipped and gone
How can you anchor a dream thereof
That with the wind has flown

How can you harbor a ship of love
When love has slipped and gone

Harder Done Than Said (Larry W Jones 07/01/2019) (song #7547)

(Harder done, harder done, harder done than said)

Well, some folks think that forgetting love is easy (it’s so easy)
Just go out and have a lot of fun
But it’s so hard when life is marred and so crazy (and so crazy)
To disregard your past number one

I know I should have fun
Instead of playing dead
When all is said and done
It’s harder done than said

(Instrumental)

All my friends invite me to come out in the sun (in the sun)
Cause that girl is not the only one
Your ardor will spread and then you will have more fun (have more fun)
But it’s true, it’s harder said than done

I know I should have fun
Instead of playing dead
When all is said and done
It’s harder done than said

(Harder done, harder done, harder done than said)

Wall Behind The Picture (Larry W Jones 07/03/2019) (song #7548)

I was throwing out some old memories
But one I saved and hung up on the wall
Four people smiling with a look of ease
The wall behind the picture knows it all

We were on a vacation long ago
From somewhere in Montana in the Fall
If walls could talk this one would tell it all
The wall behind the picture knows it all

(Instrumental)

Jimmy died in a war long forgotten
His stone cold purple heart helps me recall
Sue married too young and feels downtrodden
The wall behind the picture knows it all

Somehow you lost your love for me and then
You left and made me feel so doggone small
Our family is scattered to the wind
The wall behind the picture knows it all

If walls could talk this one would tell it all
The wall behind the picture knows it all

Land Where The Sunshine Grows (Larry W Jones 07/04/2019) (song #7549)

I know a rollin’ stone will travel any road
Cause I know I’ve been one and never shared my load
But now I want to take it slow and change my clothes
Help me make it to the land where the sunshine grows

I want to settle where my rovin’ days are past
Not where a captain sails more years before the mast
Tell me now in case any good man rightly knows
Help me make it to the land where the sunshine grows

(Instrumental)

It’s there I want to stay and spend my ending days
For I intend to settle down and change my ways
I’m through with trav’lin and livin’ with highs and lows
Help me make it to the land where the sunshine grows

Once I thought to marry and raise a family
But then I tarried and too late I let it be
Days have darkened and now I need to plant a rose
Help me make it to the land where the sunshine grows

Days have darkened and now I need to plant a rose
Help me make it to the land where the sunshine grows

Til The Boxcar Got Old (Larry W Jones 07/04/2019) (song #7550)

There’s an old wooden boxcar that’s left to rot away
It’s one I rode the rails in back in the good old days
The hobos were my neighbors and all of us rode free
When that old boxcar was new it was something to see

I started out when I was young to see the whole world
I saw the four winds blow and saw scenes of life unfurled
Never owned no land and I never had any gold
For forty long years I rode til the boxcar got old

(Instrumental)

I heard my Daddy say son there’s danger when alone
I can see you’re restless and want to be on your own
So I watched my back and survived where that boxcar rolled
For forty long years I rode til the boxcar got old

Steel wheels on the boxcar and the wood was painted green
Clicking and the clacking said it was no limousine
But that was fine with me cause I never fit that mold
For forty long years I rode til the boxcar got old

But that was fine with me cause I never fit that mold
Iron rails I rode til I and that new boxcar got old

I’ll Be Close Behind (Larry W Jones 07/04/2019) (song #7551)

If you’re walking all alone and talking to yourself
If you’ve lost all that you own and your heart’s on the shelf
Turn around cause I’ll be close behind

If you feel that love has gone and never will come home
If you sense that no one cares and your heart needs repairs
Turn around cause I’ll be close behind

Turn around cause I’ll be close behind
Turn around cause you’re still on my mind
I’ll be close behind and love you’ll find

(Instrumental)

If you’re thinking true love dies and love you now despise
If your vision has been blurred and don’t believe a word
Turn around cause I’ll be close behind

If you’re seeing things in blue and there’s no golden hue
If it seems that nothing’s right and your view isn’t bright
Turn around cause I’ll be close behind

Turn around cause I’ll be close behind
Turn around cause you’re still on my mind
I’ll be close behind and love you’ll find

Comeback Cowboy (Larry W Jones 07/06/2019) (song #7552)

She calls me the comeback cowboy
Like in the rodeo
I’ve come back to her many times
I should just let her go
Ride away to another show
While the comeback cowboy’s still in his prime

The lasso she has around this cowboy
Needs to be untwined
Maybe I could hide in old El Paso
Get her off my mind

She calls me the comeback cowboy
Like in the rodeo

(Instrumental)

She calls me the comeback cowboy
Like in the rodeo
I’ve come back to her many times
I should just let her go
Ride away to another show
While the comeback cowboy’s still in his prime

Now, I know that soon she’s gonna call me
Ask when I’m coming back
I’ll say in a voice that’s kinda drawly
I’m on an outbound track

She calls me the comeback cowboy
Like in the rodeo

My One And Only Someone (Larry W Jones 07/06/2019) (song #7553)

There’s someone, someone when I am dreaming
Who’s lovelight is gleaming I see
There’s someone, someone with arms unfolding
Who’s holding out love just for me

My one and only someone
Awake or sleeping I know
Her heart for me is keeping
And calling me soft and low

(Instrumental)

There’s someone, someone in the soft twilight
In the silvery moonlight’s glow
There’s someone, someone who’s love is so true
And my true love for her she knows

My one and only someone
Awake or sleeping I know
Her heart for me is keeping
And calling me soft and low

There’s someone, my one and only someone
The only true love I know

Bossa Nova Rosa (Larry W Jones 07/08/2019) (song #7554)

The “Father of Bossa Nova”, Joao Gilberto, died June 6, 2019, age 88.
This song was written as an honor to him and the genre he created.

I said, take it easy Rosa
Been a long hard day and my feet are sore
Just take a good look at my face
The sweat’s a-drippin’ all over the floor

She said, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
And Rosa don’t know when to quit
Come on, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
Rosa ain’t about to lose it
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova Rosa, yeah

I said, sit down pretty Rosa
Listen to the radio and the band
She said, listen to me Sonny
I wanna dance so just gimme your hand

She said, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
And Rosa don’t know when to quit
Come on, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
Rosa ain’t about to lose it
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova Rosa, yeah

I said, come on outside Rosa
And you can sit on the porch by my side
Or we’ll jump in the car Rosa
And go for a spin on a little drive

She said, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
And Rosa don’t know when to quit
Come on, this is Bossa Nova Rosa
Rosa ain’t about to lose it
Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova Rosa, yeah

Bossa Nova, Bossa Nova Rosa

Woodland Serenade (Larry W Jones 07/08/2019) (song #7555)

It must have been the gentle wind that drew me to the trees
Maybe the coolness of their shade
I walked along til I heard the tune of an old folk song
It was a woodland serenade

The sound’s origin was an old man with a bearded chin
He played a folk tune like a hymn
His old fiddle was missing a string but he made it sing
And all the woodlands sang with him

I went again to the woodland glade to hear tunes he played
Through all the trees his fiddle rang
Some presents I brought with new strings for his fiddle I bought
And the woodlands a chorus sang

Then one cold November morn all the woodlands seemed to mourn
Even the breeze no sound it made
The old man left with no trace, just his fiddle in its case
There was no woodland serenade

I tried each day and learned to play the woodland tunes I’d heard
The forest stirred and trees all swayed
The birds would sing, branches would swing and joy was on the earth
It was a woodland serenade

I tried each day and learned to play the woodland tunes I’d heard
The forest stirred and trees all swayed
The birds would sing, branches would swing and joy was on the earth
It was a woodland serenade

Colleen O’Breen (Larry W Jones 07/09/2019) (song #7556)

Oh, it was two years at most since I’d left the coast
When I sailed from fair Ireland so green
Of wild hills I dreamed and dear pleasant valley streams
When I dreamed of my Colleen O’Breen

When my good ship arrived of joy I was deprived
For my Colleen O’Breen was all gone
In a grave near the quay overlooking the spray
The name Colleen was written in stone

As damp cold breezes moan and my broken heart groans
I walk past the quay to the sad scene
On the pathway I go with my steps extra slow
To be there with my Colleen O’Breen

She was loyal to me as I sailed o’er the sea
For there was no other Colleen loved
I recall all her smiles sweetest in Irish isles
The only girl I ever dreamed of

For the rest of my days on no other I’ll gaze
As I place flowers gently serene
I will walk by the old quay and softly I’ll say
Til we meet again Colleen O’Breen

Precious Moments Made This Home (Larry W Jones 07/10/2019) (song #7557)

Every room holds a moment in time
Because precious moments made this home

The worn and scratched chairs round the table
Heard so many dinner bells
Good food, good friends, all happy people
Our kids with laughter would yell

The old sofa is now past its prime
I see a spring through the honeycomb
Every room holds a moment in time
Because precious moments made this home

(Instrumental)

This home was made alive with the heart
Love you and I had was strong
Yes, it was made to live from the start
Stronger as time rolled along

The old clock by the wall is standing
Where it has been for so very long
And somehow it’s just as enchanting
Because precious moments made this home

Every room holds a moment in time
Because precious moments made this home

Fender Telecaster (Larry W Jones 07/10/2019) (song #7558)

Well, I walked into a Nashville pawnshop
Just after my long working day was done
I asked, do you have any guitars Pop
Said, here’s a Fender Telecaster son

I peeled off five twenties and took it home
Tuned up the strings and then heard with delight
The sweet sound was full with each pick and pull
I knew Mister Fender made guitars right

(Instrumental)

Thanks Mister Fender for music rendered
I used to play your guitars through the night
I’m thankful to play songs loud or tender
This Fender Telecaster’s outta sight

I was feelin’ down and not in my prime
Til I played again that Telecaster
Then my darlin’ said play it one more time
And I didn’t even have to ask-er

(Instrumental)

Wrote lots of songs for fam’ly and friends
Of hobos, Old Crows and honky tonk queens
Young kids, some forbids and roads without ends
All played on Fender Telecaster strings

Thanks Mister Fender for music rendered
I used to play your guitars through the night
I’m thankful to play songs loud or tender
This Fender Telecaster’s outta sight

Home Brew Hurricane (Larry W Jones 07/10/2019) (song #7559)

Now, this story ain’t from long ago
But there’s a new calm before the storm
I know it’s been brewin’ for some time
A new home brew hurricane has formed

Don’t you wanna know
Just what is a home brew hurricane
Folks you better know
Barry’s comin’ down on New Orleans

(Instrumental)

The sun is warm but the rain is cold
Gonna flood the Mississippi hard
You can only hope the levees hold
Look out for old New Orleans back yards

Don’t you wanna know
Just what is a home brew hurricane
Folks you better know
Barry’s comin’ down on New Orleans

(Instrumental)

It’s in the Gulf and it’s movin’ north
That storm is a-brewin’ up real strong
A home brew hurricane’s comin’ forth
It’s gonna flood New Orleans ‘fore long

Don’t you wanna know
Just what is a home brew hurricane
Folks you better know
Barry’s comin’ down on New Orleans

Away On Yonder Highlands (Larry W Jones 07/11/2019) (song #7560)

I packed me grip for a fare thee well trip
Kissed fair Jenny goodbye in the Lowlands
I’m bound said I to the land of the sky
And tis far away on yonder Highlands

The martens roam where there ain’t no sea foam
And deer you can’t count on left and right hand
Me only love may be a turtle dove
For tis far away on yonder Highlands

Where the north wind blows the pure driven snows
And rain and hail they are surely fright’nin
Then I’ll wrap me self in a raindeer coat
Where tis far away on yonder Highlands

Where the wildcat’s wild and the badger’s vile
And the red squirrel has his tail a-widened
Wear me wellies til me feet go smelly
Oh, tis far away on yonder Highlands

Where the red grouse clucks me to sleep at night
And the lapwing roosts when the day is done
I’ll feast on the beef like a Scottish chief
Where tis far away on yonder Highlands

I’m bound said I to the land of the sky
And tis far away on yonder Highlands

When A Dream Walked In With You (Larry W Jones 07/13/2019) (song #7561)

A dream walked in and moved the clouds away
A dream walked in and in my heart will stay
That magic moment a dream said hello
Though not a word was spoken, that I know

One scene and I forgot about the past
One scene and my whole future life was cast
Moonbeams came into the room in full view
That I knew when a dream walked in with you

(Instrumental)

A dream walked in and moved the clouds away
A dream walked in and in my heart will stay
One scene and I forgot about the past
One scene and my whole future life was cast

That magic moment a dream said hello
Though not a word was spoken, that I know
Moonbeams came into the room in full view
That I knew when a dream walked in with you

When a dream walked in with you

I Fear There’s A Tear (Larry W Jones 07/20/2019) (song #7563)

I fear there’s a tear that’s falling for you dear
It’s here and falling from my eye
Now it’s in my beer and telling me so clear
You’re not here for you said goodbye
I can’t stop cryin’, you don’t know how I’ve tried
Maybe some day this tear will dry
I fear there’s a tear that’s falling for you dear
It’s here and falling from my eye

(Instrumental)

Hello lonely blues, they know I’ve cried for you
And I know this tear feels it too
I know love is through, I’ll cry a tear or two
It’s here and falling from my eye
I can’t even think and haven’t slept a wink
And that I know this tear will show
I fear there’s a tear that’s falling for you dear
It’s here and falling from my eye
This tear I’m cryin’ will last a hundred years
It’s here and falling from my eye

Gonna Bury My Problems In A Far And Distant Land (Larry W Jones 07/21/2019) (song #7564)

Well, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
There ain’t nobody gonna slow me down or stop my hand
Yes, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
Gonna bury my problems in a far and distant land
Your goodbye to me was so hard to hear
As your shoes walked from my life
Now how can I go on without you dear
I suppose I’ll have to try

(Instrumental)

Well, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
There ain’t nobody gonna slow me down or stop my hand
Yes, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
Gonna bury my problems in a far and distant land
The old telephone I now hear ringing
Friends want to know where you’ve gone
I don’t know but I’ve been busy thinking
It’s now time for me to roam

(Instrumental)

Well, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
There ain’t nobody gonna slow me down or stop my hand
Yes, I’m a-goin down to the ocean
Gonna bury my problems in a far and distant land

Imagination (Larry W Jones 07/25/2019) (song #7565)

You imagine it’s just my imagination
When I say my lips burn with fire
You imagine it’s just my imagination
That my heart is full of desire
But it’s not imagination that I love you
And my feelings I never hide
No, it’s not imagination dreaming of you
Look at the starlight in my eyes

(Instrumental)

You imagine it’s just my imagination
When I say my future is you
You imagine it’s just my imagination
That all I say to you is true
But it’s not imagination that I love you
And my feelings I never hide
No, it’s not imagination dreaming of you
Look at the starlight in my eyes
You imagination it’s just my imagination
But imagine that you love me too

Lovers Lane Trail (Larry W Jones 07/29/2019) (song #7566)

Come ride with me down Lovers Lane Trail
Where you and I rode together
One more time dear just for old time sake
Then I’ll ride away forever
This band of gold meant a lot dear
Oh, it did if only for me
Down Lovers Lane Trail will be tears
To nurture a sad memory

(Instrumental)

The life we could have had together
Was a dream that now is never
Come ride with me down Lovers Lane Trail
Then I’ll ride away forever
This band of gold meant a lot dear
Oh, it did if only for me
Down Lovers Lane Trail will be tears
To nurture a sad memory
Come ride with me down Lovers Lane Trail
Then I’ll ride away forever

The Post Where I Carved Your Name (Larry W Jones 08/01/2019) (song #7567)

Looking back now on yesterday
When summer times were warm and true
My pride and joy, my buckaroo
He had only reached his year two
I heard him ask, could he help me
Put the fence post into the ground
So I placed his hands on the post
And then I carved his name around

(Instrumental)

I carved your name with all my love
At the big ranch where we called home
And you will live here in my heart
No matter the trail you ride on
If you wonder about my love
And if it will always remain
Remember small hands in those gloves
And the post where I carved your name

(Instrumental)

Now son, my days they are numbered
I know that my life will soon end
If I recall all our summers
When would the best of all begin
Never wonder about my love
My son, it will always remain
Just recall small hands in those gloves
And the post where I carved your name

Autumn Roundup Time (Larry W Jones 08/03/2019) (song #7568)

Spoken:
Young cowboy, how many good roundups have you been on, he asked
I replied, let’s see, on a dozen or so
He said, I finished my first hundred roundups one year ago
Sung:
I had signed on as a greenhorn, riding for a Texas brand
When this old time cowboy came around and showed his calloused hands
He tied up his pony to a nearby mesquite tree
And then he sauntered over and sat down next to me
Until about sundown I heard what was on his mind
It was tales of Longhorns, young dogies and Autumn roundup time
Spoken:
Have you ever worked an Autumn roundup, he asked
It’s a lot of hard work but it’s well worth the task
Sung:
Ain’t but few things worth more than a thin silver dime
Just Longhorns, young dogies and Autumn roundup time
Spoken:
He said cowgirls can be contrary and some don’t make a wife
So-called good pals don’t come around until the end of your life
Sung:
He told me about it, whether in the rain or warm sunshine
Those big Texas Longhorns, young dogies and Autumn roundup time
Spoken:
He said Longhorns are big but gentle when driven on their way
Young dogies are fun to watch and all they want to do is play
Sung:
Then he stood up and took out his silver pocket watch to wind
Said, remember Longhorns, young dogies and Autumn roundup time
Sung:
The next day I knew I had a long ride on the Chisholm trail
But in that moonlit night I dreamed of how he lifted a veil
He had told me of life that’s worth more than a thin silver dime
About big Texas Longhorns, young dogies and Autumn roundup time

Cowboy Stop Your Roaming (Larry W Jones 08/04/2019) (song #7569)

Cowboy, stop your roaming
Cowboy, there’s more to see
Cowboy, when the trail ends
Come and return to me
As you ride along the trail
My love is there without fail
To Waco or Abilene
Canada or in between

(Instrumental)

Cowboy, stop your roaming
Cowboy, there’s more to see
Cowboy, when the trail ends
Come and return to me
To the corral of my heart
My love will guide from the start
As I call across the plains
Return and end my heart’s pain
Cowboy, stop your roaming
Come and return to me

Hillbilly Lane (Larry W Jones 08/10/2019) (song #7570)

There’s an old ramshackle house on Hillbilly Lane
Where green Kentucky cornfields grow tall in the rain
The paint is old and peeling on Hillbilly Lane
Where banjo and guitar is playing love’s refrain

In Summer evening you can see fireflies go by
Lighting up the lane as country night time is nigh
In Kentucky I’ll return to Hillbilly Lane
Where banjo and guitar will play for me again

(Instrumental)

There’s an old ramshackle house on Hillbilly Lane
Where green Kentucky cornfields grow tall in the rain
The paint is old and peeling on Hillbilly Lane
Where banjo and guitar is playing love’s refrain

In Summer evening you can see fireflies go by
Lighting up the lane as country night time is nigh
In Kentucky I’ll return to Hillbilly Lane
Where banjo and guitar will play for me again

Keep It Hush-Hush (Larry W Jones 08/11/2019) (song #7571)

Now, if you see my sweetheart with some fellow new
Keep it hush-hush whatever you do
Don’t make me blush-blush or break my downtrodden heart
I’ve still got a crush though we’re apart

If you see my sweetheart in a strange rendezvous
Painting the town with a brush of blue
Just look the other way and then please let it be
Keep it a secret hush-hush from me

(Instrumental)

If you see my sweetheart in a strange rendezvous
Painting the town with a brush of blue
Just look the other way and then please let it be
Keep it a secret hush-hush from me

Now, don’t look for my sweetheart but in case you do
Keep it hush-hush whatever you do
Don’t let me know where she was when you saw her there
Keep it hush-hush because I still care

Keep it hush-hush whatever you do
Keep it hush-hush because I still care

I See A Rainbow In Each Teardrop (Larry W Jones 08/11/2019) (song #7572)

I see a rainbow in each teardrop that’s falling
I hear a love song from every bird in the tree
I know a sad heart’s in a whippoorwill’s calling
But there’s hope in a dream of love for you and me

I see a diamond in each raindrop formation
I see gold in each sundown in the distant west
I see a rainbow in each teardrop creation
But dry up your tears and kiss me is my request

(Instrumental)

I see a rainbow in each teardrop that’s falling
I hear a love song from every bird in the tree
I know a sad heart’s in a whippoorwill’s calling
But there’s hope in a dream of love for you and me

I see a diamond in each raindrop formation
I see gold in each sundown in the distant west
I see a rainbow in each teardrop creation
But dry up your tears and kiss me is my request

I see a rainbow in each teardrop that’s falling
But dry up your tears and kiss me is my request

Riding To Abilene Town (Larry W Jones 08/13/2019) (song #7573)

When I was small on my grandfather’s knee
He’d sing cowboy songs and spin yarns for me
Of Texas cattle drives from years gone past
And riding to Abilene town steadfast
Now, at times a far away look would come
I knew I’d be hearing a special one
With cowboy songs and some yarns he’d lay down
I learned of riding to Abilene town

Riding to Abilene town
Riding to Abilene town
Grandpa would lay the trail down
Riding to Abilene town

A full-fledged cow herd, two thousand and one
He wrangled along the Chisholm Trail run
When daylight on the trail began to fade
They gathered around the campfire he made
He spoke of all the old cowboys he knew
Some were outlaws but still a jolly crew
The cows were fed grass and not castor bean
While driven to the town of Abilene

Riding to Abilene town
Riding to Abilene town
Grandpa would lay the trail down
Riding to Abilene town

For twenty five years Grandpa did his part
Each Spring he’d wait for the trail drive to start
Some cowboys got trodden, too late to save
They were buried in a lone prairie grave
Of the wild stampedes my Grandpa recalled
His cowboy songs and yarns kept me enthralled
Grandpa was a wrangler, brown, tall and lean
On the trail to the town of Abilene

Riding to Abilene town
Riding to Abilene town
Grandpa would lay the trail down
Riding to Abilene town

Then, at last, the Chisholm trail drives were o’er
The west has never been wild as before
Almost forgotten, yarns tired and forlorn
My grandpa made them to me be reborn
If grandpa were alive down to this day
To his grown grandson I know he would say
Write cowboy songs and some yarns you lay down
About my riding to Abilene town

Riding to Abilene town
Riding to Abilene town
Grandpa would lay the trail down
Riding to Abilene town

Riding In Front Of The North Wind (Larry W Jones 08/13/2019) (song #7575)

In the chill of the morning there rides an old man
With a glint in his eye and the reins in his hand
And he sings of new days when the old days are gone
Calling, where is my cowgirl and cowboy, my son

They were riding for pleasure cross prairie and streams
They’re now riding with sorrow while roving for dreams
Just riding for fortune on a new foreign trail
Riding in front of the north wind through rain and hail

The old ranch woman pedals the worn sewing wheel
Thinks of the rocking cradles where she fed them meals
And she hums to herself as the sewing wheel spins
And old ranch woman’s song in front of the north wind

They were riding for pleasure cross prairie and streams
They’re now riding with sorrow while roving for dreams
Just riding for fortune on a new foreign trail
Riding in front of the north wind through rain and hail

A young cowgirl once scattered corn seed on the land
But the north wind took some of the seed from her hand
Now others will harvest what the ranch used to grow
Riding in front of the north wind where ‘ere it blows

They were riding for pleasure cross prairie and streams
They’re now riding with sorrow while roving for dreams
Just riding for fortune on a new foreign trail
Riding in front of the north wind through rain and hail

A young cowboy once herded the cattle at dawn
But the north wind called and soon one day he was gone
And now there are no others to brand the longhorns
The ranch is vacant and the north wind sounds forlorn

They were riding for pleasure cross prairie and streams
They’re now riding with sorrow while roving for dreams
Just riding for fortune on a new foreign trail
Riding in front of the north wind through rain and hail

In the chill of the morning there rides an old man
With a glint in his eye and the reins in his hand
And he sings of new days when the old days are gone
Calling, where is my cowgirl and cowboy, my son

Save The Last For The Best (Larry W Jones 08/17/2019) (song #7576)

Good folks in this town have lived here awhile
Friends and pals all welcome me with a smile
This big homecoming has long been my quest
My old band has saved the last for the best

We’ll save the last one for the best
Then we’ll retire and take our rest
This old band played and met the test
We’ll save the last one for the best

(Instrumental)

Slow the tempo down to a smoother pace
Tune up your fiddle and your mellow bass
Plug in the mike and then boys take the stand
We’ll send ‘em all home strollin’ hand in hand

We’ll save the last one for the best
Then we’ll retire and take our rest
This old band played and met the test
We’ll save the last one for the best

(Instrumental)

These old songs are fadin’ away too fast
We never hear ‘em on the new broadcast
So, let them waltz around the big ballroom
Boys, let’s play that old Blue Kentucky Moon

We’ll save the last one for the best
Then we’ll retire and take our rest
This old band played and met the test
We’ll save the last one for the best

Sledgehammer Blues (Larry W Jones 08/20/2019) (song #7577)

Sledgehammer Stan was a sledgehammer man
Was born with a sledgehammer in his hand
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues
Stan built new railroads with a wretched crew
He built a levee and a dam or two
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues

Stan hammered on boulders at Rocky Butte
Trains didn’t even give old Stan a hoot
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues
Hammered for the hydro works day and night
Working so folks could have electric light
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues

Sledgehammer Stan was born in Nebraska
Hammered from deep south up to Alaska
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues
Stan built bridges and shafts for the gold mines
A good man except for his bad jail times
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues

Sledgehammer, sledgehammer, where did you go
Been chasin’ wild dreams down the Ohio
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues
Sledgehammer man from a Nebraska town
Hammer them rocks til a-way past sundown
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues

Stan hammered in the rain and did as told
He hammered on the veins that held no gold
And Stan got them sledgehammer blues
He hammered hard and couldn’t be outdone
Until one day the sledgehammer had won
Stan died with the dreadful sledgehammer blues

Last Herd Of The Fall (Larry W Jones 08/21/2019) (song #7578)

At Birkenstock general store in San Antone
We loaded old Cookie’s chuckwagon tall
Beef, beans, biscuits, salt pork, molasses and coffee
Now ready for the last herd of the Fall
At daybreak we started moving all the cattle
Joe and Bill were singing the Cattle Call
Two full days and we were settled down near Austin
Making time with the last herd of the Fall

On the drive the cattle stampeded everywhere
We rounded up strays with lassos and gloves
The longhorns were big and stout and dust filled the air
Wranglin’ them critters took a lot of shove
But soon they settled down and followed the cow trail
Cowboys were feelin’ fine and that ain’t all
Eatin’ jerky, dried apples, hearin’ Cookie yell
On the Chisholm Trail, last herd of the Fall

That cattle drive had no limits, no, none at all
Ridin’ herd at night brought no goodly joy
But day and night we all rode in the saddle tall
Cows ain’t as strong as a Texas cowboy
And no matter what the weather is, rain or shine
Cowboys love to hear little dogies bawl
When the weather changes we all can read the signs
Round ‘em up for the last herd of the Fall

Passing Waco and Fort Worth we spent some dollars
Old saloons and bars are not all the same
But the big trail boss came and rescued the brawlers
And in the end nobody was to blame
At last we crossed at the old Red River Station
Driving cows across the river was fun
On through the Oklahoma Indian Nation
All the way to Wichita on the run

Soon enough we reached the railhead at Abilene
Riding the Chisholm Trail’s a cowboy’s life
Sometimes it’s easy but sometimes it’s tough and mean
Through it all there ain’t no feud or much strife
Pardner, I’m a dyed in the wool Texas cowboy
And down here we don’t mind sayin’ to Y’all
If you want to ride, come with me and Bill and Roy
We’ll let you drive the last herd of the Fall

Chuckwagon Cookie (Larry W Jones 08/23/2019) (song #7579)

Now, cooks can be good or they can be bad like a dragon
This song’s about our cook called Cookie on his chuckwagon
Sometimes he’s aggravatin’ when dishin’ out bully chuck
And if you complain about it then pard you better duck

Now boys, don’t miss my advice and go sass our cook
Cause you’ll pay the price with our Cookie’s crab grass look
You better skeedaddle before his bread knife drops
And you end up lookin’ like one of his lamb chops

(Instrumental)

Now boys, don’t miss my advice and go sass our cook
Cause you’ll pay the price with our Cookie’s crab grass look
You better skeedaddle before his bread knife drops
And you end up lookin’ like one of his lamb chops

Cookie ain’t really that bad and we love to hear
Come ‘n git it boys before it all disappears
We bang his hardtack on our pans to make some noise
Then tell him how good it tastes cause we’re good cowboys

Until Sunrise (Larry W Jones 08/23/2019) (song #7580)

When the moon comes up and the sun goes down
The work day is done and we head downtown
We sit at the tables and order rounds
And we all stay right there until sunrise

The low land farmers come from Liberty
And the trot line fishermen from Moss Bluff
With the guitar and banjo tuned enough
We play and sing all night until sunrise

(Instrumental)

A beat up jukebox sets beside the bar
Feed it quarters for a honky tonk star
Listen to songs about an old boxcar
And we all stay right there until sunrise

The honky tonk piano’s out of tune
It’s been that way since back last May or June
But it still belts out Blue Kentucky moon
And we all stay right there until sunrise

(Instrumental)

When the moon comes up and the sun goes down
The work day is done and we head downtown
We sit at the tables and order rounds
And we all stay right there until sunrise

And we all stay right there until sunrise

I Bought A Horse Today (Larry W Jones 08/24/2019) (song #7581)

I bought a horse today
At an equine auction sale
His back has quite a sway
And I like his bob tail
I know you thought I would
Saddle him for your good
But you can’t ride him

Pard, this cowboy is one
Who shops at Big Sam’s Club
Goodwill knows me by name
And Shop n Save has my grub
I look good on my cayuse
And he don’t like to be goosed
So, you can’t ride him

Oh, I bought a horse today at a sale
He’s a second-hand old nag
Oh, I’ll feed him hay from last year’s bale
He’s not much of a brag

I look him up and down
Pretend he’s looking good
And I ride him all around
On trails you never would
Cheap is not a word I say
But if you do then go away
No, you can’t ride him

Cheap is not a word I say
But if you do then go away
No, you can’t ride him

Los Cinco Valles (Larry W Jones 08/25/2019) (song #7582)

Cinco valles, cinco pueblos, mi amor
Five valleys, five towns ahead
Cinco valles, cinco pueblos, my treasure
Five valleys to journey and tread

One valley will sing of your beauty
One town will know of your charms
Four more and love pays its duty
When I hold you again in my arms

(Instrumental)

One valley will sing of your beauty
One town will know of your charms
Four more and love pays its duty
When I hold you again in my arms

Cinco valles, cinco pueblos, mi bonita
Five valleys, five towns para llevar
Cinco valles, cinco pueblos, to ride dear
As I strive to be where you are

Cinco valles, cinco pueblos, my love

Away From The Trails Of The Range (Larry W Jones 08/26/2019) (song #7583)

Good horses in a corral that’s still and serene
Give no indication of long trails where they’ve been
They all rest at the railings, no wind in their manes
Away from the trails of the range

Their worn saddles are stored in a dry saddle barn
Bridles are hung on wooden pegs next to the corn
Their old horse shoes will soon be made new by exchange
Away from the trails of the range

(Instrumental)

If those good horses had tongues by which they could speak
What wild tales from the trails each one would surely weave
But for now they are corralled until rearranged
Away from the trails of the range

Now, come cowboys and ride us tomorrow, they pray
For in the big corral none of them want to stay
Good horses know that no running is sad and strange
Away from the trails of the range

Dark Is The Day (Larry W Jones 08/27/2019) (song #7584)

Dark is the day
No sun today
No friendly breeze to put my heart at ease
Be calm, my thoughts
Calm lest my dear one should be returning
Cross dark waves tossed
Dark is the day

Dark is the day, oh lonely day
Just like a dove that flew away
And left behind a lonely dream

(Instrumental)

Every day our lips are pressing
Only in dreams, not in blessings
Oh, how my thoughts haunt me while you’re away
Lonely am I
Oh, so lonely because dark is the day
You sailed away
Dark is the day

Dark is the day, oh lonely day
Just like a dove that flew away
And left behind a lonely dream

Southerly Wind (Larry W Jones 08/28/2019) (song #7585)

Blow you southerly wind
Southerly wind, southerly wind
Blow you southerly wind
O’er the deep and bonnie blue sea

Blow you southerly wind
Southerly wind, southerly wind
Blow you southerly wind
My own bonnie true love to me

A lad said in the town
New ships were in the harbor lee
So, I hurried on down
On down to the bonnie blue sea

Blow you southerly wind
Southerly wind, southerly wind
Blow you southerly wind
My own bonnie true love to me

My eyes could not see it
Just wherever her ship might be
The schooner, where be it
That brings my own true love to me

Blow you southerly wind
Southerly wind, southerly wind
Blow you southerly wind
My own bonnie true love to me

Oh nay, tis not so sweet
Southerly wind softly the breeze
Though lightly it does meet
The rolling deep bonnie blue sea

Blow you southerly wind
Southerly wind, southerly wind
Blow you southerly wind
My own bonnie true love to me

Blow you southerly wind
My own bonnie true love to me

Chisholm Trail Strays (Larry W Jones 08/28/2019) (song #7586)

In eighteen hundred eighty three
In May on the fourteenth day
Some bold Texas cow hands a roundup formed
And for the Chisholm rode away, cowboys
And for the Chisholm rode away

The trail boss in his stirrups stood
With field glasses in his hands
Strays !, strays !, there runs some stray longhorns, he yelled
And they all run to beat the band, cowboys
And they all run to beat the band

The trail boss rode a good cow horse
And a fine trail boss he was
Now, to the call, Riders all !, riders all !
And ride like bad Texas outlaws, cowboys
And ride like bad Texas outlaws

The strays were running like the wind
And the strays were in full sight
So be resolved was every cowboy bold
To herd and hold the longhorn fold, cowboys
To herd and hold the longhorn fold

Lassos whirled til leather played out
Longhorns ran with all their might
And two good cow hands fell before the herd
While the longhorn strays ran away, cowboys
While the longhorn strays ran away

To lose those cows our trail boss said
My sad heart is grieved full sore
Oh, but to lose two Texas cow hands bold
How my heart is grieved ten times more, cowboys
How my heart is grieved ten times more

Springtime stars that night did appear
Said he, toward home tomorrow we will ride
For it’s time to leave all these longhorn strays
Toward home tomorrow we will ride, cowboys
Toward home tomorrow we will ride

The Chisholm is a dreadful trail
One that leads to Abilene
Where the longhorn cattle in big herds go
And buzzards to pick the strays clean, cowboys
And buzzards to pick the strays clean

A-Riding On A Summer Day (Larry W Jones 08/28/2019) (song #7587)

A-riding on a summer day
Gave my thinking some straighter lines
Thinking of that pretty cowgirl
The one who broke this heart of mine

She resembles a prairie rose
That blossoms fair in early June
She resembles a song of prose
On a guitar that’s finely tuned

A-riding on a summer day
Come warm sunshine or the cold rain
I cannot ride too far away
For I must ride toward her again

And who will shoe her little foot
And who will hold her small gloved hand
And who will read her like a book
Oh, who will be her married man

I will love her til rivers dry
And all prairies burn in the sun
I will love her until I die
Though she’ll not be my married one

A-riding on a summer day
Gave my thinking some straighter lines
Thinking of that pretty cowgirl
The one who broke this heart of mine

Mr Impatient (Larry W Jones 08/29/2019) (song #7588)

Well, I’m known as Mr. Impatient
I speed up at railroads I cross
I miss some signs that are blatant
In love I end up getting lost

It’s a real pain getting lost in the rain
I missed some good jobs and work just for dimes
No days are diamonds cause all are like stones
Mr. Impatient is never right on time

Oh, in love I get lost time after time

(Instrumental)

I regret impatient moments
Because they’re part of my worst side
It would be better if slowing
Was part of my impatient ride

I know I got where I am now
Behind in life and love somehow
Way too late I’ve passed up my prime
Mr. Impatient is never right on time

Way too late I’ve passed up my prime
Mr. Impatient is never right on time

Vagabond Cowboys (Larry W Jones 08/29/2019) (song #7589)

Come all you vagabond cowboys
Bound to this prairie land
Let me tell you of a story
So, all around me take your stand
I’m a-gonna leave this wild west
I speak surely to make it plain
I’m a-gonna leave cause it’s best
Never gonna come here again

My darlin’ wife, my quarrelin’ wife
For sure we didn’t get along
I left my hard workin’ father
In the old country back at home
I left my dear old kind mother
For where vagabond cowboys roam
I’m just a vagabond cowboy
Here where the longhorn cattle roam

I left my acquaintances dear
They bid me well with parting tears
My dear old Dad he was saying
A cowboy’s life is one to fear
May providence lead and guide you
Vagabond cowboys ride alone
Return my vagabond cowboy
Come back to your old country home

This young lady beside me fair
Ears to my words are open wide
She has promised to be faithful
And she will now be my new bride
This vagabond cowboy loves her
And I see love in her blue eyes
I will always be with her, boys
No more vagabond cowboy, I

I’m tired of trails and their ramblin’
For I know of their trials well
I have crossed the Rocky Mountains
Where many a good cowboy fell
I came from a distant country
There’s no outlaws with guns and wild
This vagabond cowboy’s at home
In a country two thousand miles

Greenhorn Song (Larry W Jones 08/31/2019) (song #7590)

Come on greenhorn, bring your saddle
Keep your head up and use your brains
Bring your new spurs, lasso, bridle
Cause from now on you’ll ride the plains

Keep your eyes on crusty cow hands
Old cowboys who can strut their stuff
And some day you’ll be in command
Play it smart and grow tough enough

Come on greenhorn and mount your hoss
These old cowboys all know their trade
Wranglers, cooks, stockmen and trail boss
This working ranch is where they’re made

Keep your mind on all the things son
That makes a cowboy of renown
Make mistakes and you won’t be one
And then you’ll let that new wife down

Come on greenhorn, watch the branding
The Rocking-J will burn rawhide
And while they’re down, you be handy
A pocket knife makes bulls denied

Keep your eye on that red heifer
That’s her new calf and she’s got fight
Wear those chaps of brand new leather
You’ll be riding night herd tonight

Come on greenhorn and git with it

A Girl Named George (Larry W Jones 09/03/2019) (song #7591)

Started life as a girl in nineteen thirty one
The old Texas doc yelled It’s a girl, not a son
My Daddy Jones fell down on his face on the floor
Then he opened up one bottle and drank some more
And what he did is something hard to get undone
He signed my birth certificate in bitter tones
My Mama didn’t see what Daddy did to me
Cause my Daddy he done gave me the name George Jones

So, at nineteen I left Texas
In Nashville, worked to make money
As a waitress down on Broadway
No cowboys would call me honey
Cause all the uniforms I owned
Had my name written as George Jones

I know I coulda had me any ‘ol cowboy
If Daddy had named me Daisy and not a dude
But when cowboys read the name on my uniform
They laughed so hard they couldn’t eat their plate of food
So, I just clean up the bar with my tray caddie
While I try to understand my own darn hormones
And that’s when I start in to cussin’ my Daddy
For him not a-namin’ me Daisy, but George Jones

One night I finished work on Broadway in Nashville
Then headed for my empty room
And I wished there was any way to change my name
That had brought on me so much gloom
When on the corner there stood a handsome cowboy
He said something that thrilled my bones
Cause what he told me was that his name was Daisy
Pleased to meet you then, I’m George Jones

Well, me and Daisy we got hitched
Got us a daughter and a son
Yeah, we named our girl Johnnie Cash
And our son Jill gets diaper rash
Now, when I get home from my job
Me and Daisy, we get along
When Daisy whispers in my ear
Dear, I’m in love with you, George Jones

Bahamas Dorian Blues (Larry W Jones 09/03/2019) (song #7592)

Dorian blew in from the east
Turned bright blue skies as dark as night
Hurricane winds that would not cease
Brought trouble in the Bahamas alright

When I got up that blue morning
Water was coming in my front door
Thought I’d seen my share of trouble
But Dorian brought trouble more

I got into my old row boat
Paddled over to Como Hill
Then I looked down on my old house
While Dorian was blowing still

It thundered and the lightning struck
And the hurricane went so slow
Dorian left us in the muck
And now we’ve got no place to go

Dorian blew in from the east
Turned bright blue skies as dark as night
Hurricane winds that would not cease
Brought trouble in the Bahamas alright

Before The Blanket And The Saddle (Larry W Jones 09/04/2019) (song #7593)

Before the blanket and the saddle
In the west were mustangs running free
Before the blanket and the saddle
Wild is how mustangs were meant to be

But broken promises and treaties
Broke the spirit of horse and red man
Before the blanket and the saddle
Rode the freedom of the mustang band

Now, don’t call them cayuse or broncos
Mustang’s the name by which they are known
Before the blanket and the saddle
Mustangs ran the range which was their home

Indians gave the mustangs freedom
To run just like the wind in the sun
There’s no reason in God’s creation
Why we can’t let ‘em run, let ‘em run

Before the blanket and the saddle
Mustangs, like the wind were running free

You’re Still On My Mind (Larry W Jones 09/06/2019) (song #7594)

Maybe it’s the shading of the sun on the grass
Or the lading of shine on candelabra brass
Maybe these thoughts pervading on my mind will pass
But sweet darlin’ you’re still here on my mind

You left behind a lot of things in a hurry
I’m not inclined to bother so please don’t worry
Days are movin’ slow and my mind’s kinda blurry
But sweet darlin’ you’re still here on my mind

(Instrumental)

Though my mind is blurry my thoughts of you are clear
But my eyes are not that way when they’re filled with tears
It don’t matter cause I can’t bring back yesteryear
But sweet darlin’ you’re still here on my mind

I wish you’d come back but I won’t ask yes or no
The railroad track is calling and I just might go
Where I’ll end up, well I suppose you’ll never know
But sweet darlin’ you’re still here on my mind

Yes sweet darlin’ you’re still here on my mind

In Far North Idaho-I-O (Larry W Jones 09/06/2019) (song #7595)

Come now all you jolly cowboys
How far north would you like to go
Would you all like to ride the trails
In far north Idaho-I-O
In far north Idaho

We’re riding up to Idaho
That’s what we greenhorn cowboys say
But riding up to Idaho
Might just depend upon our pay

Tail boss said he’d pay good wages
And pay the stage to there and back
But place your X on these pages
That you will stay and not backtrack

Now, greenhorns if you get homesick
And back to the warm south you go
You won’t be paid or your sidekick
In far north Idaho-I-O
In far north Idaho

We had a bumpy stage journey
Cause o’er the ruts we had to go
We stopped in Elk City dirty
In far north Idaho-I-O
In far north Idaho

Well, then the big cattle agent
Took us to the cow pasture grounds
Here’s the bunkhouse jolly cowboys
Here’s where all of you will lie down

Well, our grub the dogs would snarl at
The slats did not keep out the snow
We felt worse than a poisoned cat
In far north Idaho-I-O
In far north Idaho

Y’all Git (Larry W Jones 09/07/2019) (song #7596)

We live in the backwoods where everybody’s just like kin
But some of them crazy kinfolks don’t make us smile
They come a-knockin’ with no warnin’ wantin’ to git in
But we say, Y’all git and don’t come back for awhile

Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git and don’t Y’all come back for awhile
Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git on down the road a country mile

Well, here they come a-runnin’, they all can smell Ma’s cooker
Eatin’ everything from ham and beans, nothin’ missed
Lookin’ mighty fuller and there ain’t no girl a looker
And brother that’s when Ma and I insist

Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git and don’t Y’all come back for awhile
Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git on down the road a country mile

Ma works hard washin’ all them dirty dishes in the sink
Now, you would think all those kinfolks would help
But all they do is ask for more sweet lemonade to drink
And brother that’s when Ma and I go yelp

Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git and don’t Y’all come back for awhile
Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git on down the road a country mile

Y’all git, Y’all git
Y’all git on down the road a country mile

Room Above A Honky Tonk (Larry W Jones 09/07/2019) (song #7597)

My room is right above a honky tonk
My window view outside suits me just fine
I don’t feed a dime into the jukebox
Cause they play Hank Williams songs all the time

Rumpled shirts and crumpled bags of Cheetos
Spread on the bed where they’re a sad disgrace
My room above a honky tonk vetos
Any rejection of an ideal place

(Instrumental)

Window panes are dirty, streaks everywhere
That handbag on the floor holds all I own
I can’t hold her anymore though I care
My room above a honky tonk is home

Oh, I know I’m never gonna forget
That for a time she was mine, mine alone
I know I’ll be forever in regret
In my room above a honky tonk home

(Instrumental)

My room is right above a honky tonk
My window view outside suits me just fine
I don’t feed a dime into the jukebox
Cause they play Hank Williams songs all the time

Window panes are dirty, streaks everywhere
That handbag on the floor holds all I own
I can’t hold her anymore though I care
My room above a honky tonk is home

Banks And Streams Of Dixieland (Larry W Jones 09/09/2019) (song #7598)

You banks and streams of Dixieland
Where magnolias bloom fresh and fair
How can you sing, you pretty birds
While I am weary, full of care

You’ll break my heart, all you songbirds
That sing above the green leaf fern
You remind me of sweetest words
That’s all forgone not to return

(Instrumental)

Often I strolled beside the stream
All lined with the tall long leaf pine
And heard birds sing love’s melodies
As sweetly as I did to mine

With happy heart I plucked a rose
So sweet upon its thorny stem
Oh, as for me I was not chose
I have the thorn and she’s with him

You banks and streams of Dixieland
I still dream of my own love there

Mister Mandolin Man (Larry W Jones 09/10/20190 (song #7599)

Hey there mister mandolin man
Please play some blue bluegrass for me
I’m on my own now that love’s gone
And I know just what I must do
Hey there mister mandolin man
Please play some blue bluegrass for me
I’m blue and when the day is through
I’ll be trav’lin’ along with you

Mister mandolin man
My love is under ban
On your mandolin play
A tune from far away
You know I’ll be there too
Trav’lin’ along with you

Hey there mister mandolin man
Play me a song I’ll understand
Where ‘ere you go I just don’t care
My broken heart’s already there
Now, let your fingers dance awhile
Your blue bluegrass is now my style
Hey there mister mandolin man
Please play it slow for my lifespan

Mister mandolin man
My love is under ban
On your mandolin play
A tune from far away
You know I’ll be there too
Trav’lin’ along with you

Hey there mister mandolin man
Please play some blue bluegrass for me
I’m on my own now that love’s gone
And I know just what I must do
Hey there mister mandolin man
Please play some blue bluegrass for me
I’m blue and when the day is through
I’ll be trav’lin’ along with you

Far Yonder Thunder (Larry W Jones 09/11/2019) (song #7600)

There’s a blue moon up in the sky tonight
But it can’t be seen through all the dark clouds
I hear far yonder thunder rollin’ round
There must be lightnin’ almost out of sight
Like far yonder thunder I’ll say out loud
Girl, it’s far over yonder where I’m bound

Far yonder thunder’s rumblin’ through the sky
Like lonesome worried feelin’s on my mind
It’s been here lots of nights and many days
I might figure it out some by and by
But for now I’ll just take it as a sign
Far yonder thunder’s callin’ me away

(Instrumental)

There’s a blue moon up in the sky tonight
But it can’t be seen through all the dark clouds
I hear far yonder thunder rollin’ round
There must be lightnin’ almost out of sight
Like far yonder thunder I’ll say out loud
Girl, it’s far over yonder where I’m bound

An old freight train’s a-comin’ fore too long
Rollin’ down the tracks to where I don’t care
Sounds like far yonder thunder night or day
My last words to you won’t be in a song
Nobody wants to hear of love’s despair
Like that far yonder thunder in the air

Far yonder thunder’s in the air
