Meanest Cowboy Alive (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4201)
I got a pony in the old corral
Lots of hay to feed him on
I’ve got a pretty little cowgirl
To care for him when I’m gone
Goin’ on the big roundup
Springtime roundup’s here again
Gonna fill up my coffee cup
Sugar’s from sweet Calamity Jane
Yonder comes Calamity Jane
Kissed by the sun so brown
Her face is drivin’ me insane
Golden hair just hangin’ down
The mornin’ sun’s still risin’
And I don’t see no sign of rain
Sweet Calamity Jane I’m prizin’
Prettiest cowgirl of the plains
Ring that dinner bell, Calamity
Make them biscuits nice ‘n brown
Then pack my bed roll for me
I’m Springtime roundup bound
Now how do I know she loves me
Well, I can see it in her eyes
And Calamity Jane has told me
I’m the meanest cowboy alive
Harbor Of Her Heart (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4202)
Hank Snow sang a song of Bluebird Island
His ship sailed across love’s boundless sea
Silver sails took him away from the highlands
On a lonely voyage to set his sad heart free
There Hank was, out across the waves
When a bluebird came flying by one day
A bluebird came flying from across the sea
With a message that said, come follow me
Hank Snow sailed his ship to the sea of love
That little bluebird surely did do its part
On Moonlight Bay he anchored in the shelter of
The harbor of her heart
Winds of trade blew Hank to Bluebird Island
There they dried each other’s lonely tears away
Hank Snow found a treasure on Bluebird Island
It’s a pleasure to say it’s in our hearts to stay
Hank Snow’s Bluebird Island
Was in the harbor of her heart
Snowy Wind (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4203)
In a teepee a new life would begin
A fair Indian maiden of the plains
The Chieftan named her Snowy Wind
Such beauty’s never been seen again
As pretty as the heavens up above
As fair as the stars in their spin
Born in the cold depths of December
The Indians named her Snowy Wind
A white trapper came one morning
For two moons the white man stayed
Soon he was a guest at the teepee
Of the shy and pretty Indian maid
Snowy Wind, the breezes whispered
Snowy Wind, the breezes sighed
When the trapper rode one evening
Snowy Wind was riding by his side
Under the moon at night she lay sleeping
Heavenly stars were shining all so bright
The trapper away from her was creeping
Then he rode away into the lonely night
Snowy Wind, the breezes whispered
Snowy Wind, the breezes sighed
For out on the cold and lonely prarie
Snowy Wind with heart broken died
Snowy Wind with heart broken died
Letter From Mexicali Rose (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4204)
South of the border I rode one fine day
Where the breeze through a Mexican valley blows
I fell in love and gave my heart away
To a lovely senorita known as the Mexicali Rose
Her love was sincere for I could see it in her eyes
There where the Perdenales flows
And the warmth of the desert air couldn’t compare
With the arms of my Mexicali Rose
I grew envious when a stranger waved goodbye
And I accused her wrongly I suppose
She begged me to stay, don’t go away, she cried
But I rode away from my Mexicali Rose
I was foolish then, I know, to treat her that way
And I wondered if she’d ever understand
Months turned into years, and I counted every day
Like counting her tears by the Rio Grande
I wrote my Mexicali Rose, said I’m coming home
That I was sorry where my trail had led
Her mother wrote back, said that she died alone
With a letter from Mexicali Rose in red
You left me alone because of one you didn’t know
Although you knew I loved only you
Here’s a flower from the valley, from Mexicali Rose
Just to remind you I died for you true
My Heart Isn’t Broke Anymore (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4205)
My heart isn’t broke anymore
No matter how much you tried
You set me adrift from the shore
But I’ve sailed back with the tide
My heart was lost out at sea
When rains started to pour
But I’m still living, you see
My heart isn’t broke anymore
I used to think I might die
Dark clouds covered the blue
Then I found out, life could go on without
Your love that never was true
I’m in a safe harbor now
My ship is safely in shore
And I’ve forgotten your vow
My heart isn’t broke anymore
I used to think I might die
Dark clouds covered the blue
Then I found out, life could go on without
Your love that never was true
I’m in a safe harbor now
My ship is safely in shore
And I’ve forgotten your vow
My heart isn’t broke anymore
Broken Promise (Larry W. Jones 12/01/2006) (song#4206)
Tonight my weary heart is sad and blue
You don’t how it feels when things aren’t right
I know that you’ve found someone new
You broke your promise and my dream that night
The rain that’s falling makes me feel so older
As out my window pane I peer into the night
But the only thing I know that seemed colder
Was a broken promise and my dream that night
Your love turned cold, you took my heart from me
I wonder if you ever really cared
Now another shares your heart and holds the key
Another heart that’s not prepared
The rain that’s falling makes me feel so older
As out my window pane I peer into the night
But the only thing I know that seemed colder
Was a broken promise and my dream that night
On that mournful morning when you left me
I couldn’t smile though the sun was bright
You can’t see the damage you’ve done to me
It’s hidden deep within my broken heart tonight
The rain that’s falling makes me feel so older
As out my window pane I peer into the night
But the only thing I know that seemed colder
Was a broken promise and my dream that night
Phantom Cowboy (Larry W. Jones 12/02/2006) (song#4207)
Oh, the bald eagle sees where the prarie dog flees
And the red hawk joins the kill
But where will be anyone to see
The last cowboy to ride the hill
We see the chains that brings the pains
To the horses plowing the prarie under
And in vain we strain to see again
Cowboys riding on hooves of thunder
A curtain is drawn on a time that’s gone
Only the phantom cowboy’s riding past
No longer is heard the trail boss’ word
On the cattle trails across praries vast
Yard by yard the land’s been scarred
Until the old west beauty is no more
And those who thrived on the cattle drives
Have closed the corral for evermore
So, this is the song of times forgone
Only the phantom cowboy’s riding by
No more the brawn of shoulders strong
At the branding under the Texas sky
So, this is the tale of those that hail
The mystery of the last cattle drive
Through rain, snow and dusty trails
Where only the phantom cowboy rides
Starbeam Of Love (Larry W. Jones 12/02/2006) (song#4208)
I go in search of one whom I dreamed of
Someone who said that she would share her love
I go in search of every single star
For you’re my dream, starbeam of love you are
There was a time when I was doing fine
Then came the time when that love went away
Now I find no one that I call mine
Though I’ve searched for love until this day
I will find you, oh, so very soon
And you will be soft as the harvest moon
I will find you, oh, where ‘ere you are
For you’re my dream, starbeam of love you are
There was a time when I was doing fine
Then came the time when that love went away
Now I find no one that I call mine
Though I’ve searched for love until this day
I go in search of one whom I dreamed of
Someone who said that she would share her love
I go in search of every single star
For you’re my dream, starbeam of love you are
I will find you, oh, so very soon
And you will be soft as the harvest moon
I will find you, oh, where ‘ere you are
For you’re my dream, starbeam of love you are
Bonnie Sue Sunny You (Larry W. Jones 12/02/2006) (song#4209)
Bonnie Sue, sunny you
I’m entranced with your eyes of blue
I love your smile, your graceful style
You beguile my heart that’s so in love with you
If you will ride by my side
We’ll stride along through the pines
I’ll show the other cowboys with pride
Bonnie Sue, sunny you, your’re mine
I’ll show the other cowboys with pride
Bonnie Sue, sunny you, your’re mine
Seems like I’ve ridden trails forever darlin’
Searching for you, wonderin’ where you’d be
Now that I’ve found you, Bonnie darlin’
You mean more than a bit of heaven to me
Bonnie Sue, sunny you
I beg you stay, don’t ever go away
You’re my one and only love under all the stars above
You’re everything a dream conveys
Some day your heart will know the way my heart feels
When I’m with you I start my life anew
Bonnie Sue, sunny you
This cowboy’s so in love with you, Bonnie Sue
Nobody’s Buckaroo (Larry W. Jones 12/02/2006) (song#4210)
One day I rode my pony into town
And looked for an empty hitchin’ rail
As I dismounted and looked around
I saw a little buckaroo who looked so frail
He was at the orphanage and he looked underfed
I asked the kid his name and this is what he said
I’m nobody’s buckaroo, nobody’s buckaroo
Here at the orphanage I’m so sad and blue
My mama left me here and I’ve no Dad I knew
I’m not wanted here, I’m nobody’s buckaroo
Once in awhile somebody will come
And take another of my little buddies home
But I know they see that I can’t see
And I hear steps as they just keep walking on
I’m nobody’s buckaroo, nobody’s buckaroo
Here at the orphanage I’m so sad and blue
My Mama left me here and I’ve no Dad I knew
I’m nobody’s buckaroo, is there something you can do
I don’t have my Mama here to hold me when I cry
And I’d like to hear a rodeo sometime in my life
They call me the little buckaroo who cannot see
But I’ve been told there’s a sacred book so old
That says the God above loves buckaroos like me
I’m nobody’s buckaroo, nobody’s buckaroo
Here at the orphanage I’m so sad and blue
My Mama left me here and I’ve no Dad I knew
I hope somebody will take me home
Then nobody will call me nobody’s buckaroo
West Texas Cowboy (Larry W. Jones 12/07/2006) (song#4211)
Riding into the early morning sun, I was west Texas bound
The city life I was quitin’, cause for a cowboy it just ain’t fittin’
Riding back to Texas, back to real friends and familiar ground
City life was filled with strife for a west Texas cowboy like me
I’ve been all the way to Frisco, been north of the Dixon line
Can’t wait to see ‘ol compadre Cisco, let him know I’m fine
I’ve been to Santa Fe, seen too many folks on the street
City life cuts like a knife for a west Texas cowboy like me
I want to breathe the air, feel west Texas sod ‘neath my feet
I want to see the sun when it sets, a scene that can’t be beat
I want to have no regrets like I found in those big dirty cities
City life’s too rife with sorrow for a west Texas cowboy like me
Tonight the sun will set on El Paso town, not too far away
This time when I return, I’ll lasso a ranch where I’ll stay
Tomorrow the sun will find me just where I want to be
That ‘ol city life ain’t a life for a west Texas cowboy like me
I want to breathe the air, feel west Texas sod ‘neath my feet
I want to see the sun when it sets, a scene that can’t be beat
I want to have no regrets like I found in those big dirty cities
City life’s too rife with sorrow for a west Texas cowboy like me
City lights shine bright, but not for a west Texas cowboy like me
Cheerful Drifting Cowboy (Larry W. Jones 12/08/2006) (song#4212)
They call me the cheerful drifting cowboy
When they hear my song as I go riding by
I lasso all the black clouds from the blue
So the skies won’t lose their cheerful hue
I don’t have a missus, but I don’t miss many kisses
They call me the cheerful drifting cowboy
I make my bed where city folks are few
Out on the trail ‘neath the blue
I’ve got lots of time, no hard hills to climb
They call me the cheerful drifting cowboy
The trails I ride are where I’m not tied
That’s where they’ll find me
When my drifting days are through
I make my bed where city folks are few
Out on the trail ‘neath the blue
I’ve got lots of time, no hard hills to climb
They call me the cheerful drifting cowboy
The trails I ride are where I’m not tied
That’s where they’ll find me
When my drifting days are through
Green Red River Valley (Larry W. Jones 12/09/2006) (song#4213)
I’m gonna ride down that old Chisholm trail
Down to the green Red River Valley
Where the longhorns wait for the tally
The Red River Valley is my home
Come the twilight I will rest
With the Texas sky above my head
The Red River Valley where I’m blessed
Is free from fear and dread
Let me sing a cowboy song
Let me work where I belong
Got fences to mend, herd cattle with my friends
Where the green Red River Valley rolls along
Let me ride on the range
Where I know a cowgirl, name of Sally
She’s the one whose name I hope to change
Down in the green Red River Valley
Let me sing a cowboy song
Let me work where I belong
Got fences to mend, herd cattle with my friends
Where the green Red River Valley rolls along
Let me ride on the range
Where I know a cowgirl, name of Sally
She’s the one whose name I hope to change
Down in the green Red River Valley
Aspens On The Hill (Larry W. Jones 12/09/2006) (song#4214)
Outside of Denver grew a grove of Aspens on the hill
Where I rode with my darlin’ long ago
The stars that were shining are up there shining still
As when we rode among those Aspens on the hill
We sang old cowboy love songs
And watched the birds fly to their nests
And we knew our love was more that just a thrill
The love that we had darlin’, surely was the best
When we rode among those Aspens on the hill
When my end of days comes darlin’
And it’s time for me to die
Please don’t forget me, that I cry
If you visit me in sadness, think of the love we knew
And let your teardrops fall on leaves of Aspens where I lie
My love for you is endless though I may see you no more
Aspen leaves are falling, I can feel the chill
Kiss me goodbye darlin’, just as you did before
When we rode among those Aspens on the hill
My Yellow Rose Of Texas (Larry W. Jones 12/09/2006) (song#4215)
My yellow rose of Texas rose up and rode away
She didn’t say where she was goin’, where I cannot tell
I’ve got these lonesome Texas blues down to my boots
Enough to make a cowboy saddle up and hit the trail
Lone star beer and whiskey on the rocks
I want to hear Faded Love on the old juke box
Lone star beer and whiskey on the rocks
Is the only cheer I get since she’s been gone
Count out all my quarters, nickles and dimes
Let me hear that Faded Love one more time
Bob Wills knew what he was doin’, fiddlin’ around
Just like I’m doin’ every night til closing time
Lone star beer and whiskey on the rocks
I want to hear Faded Love on the old juke box
Count out all my quarters, nickles and dimes
Let me hear that Faded Love one more time
Bob Wills knew what he was doin’, fiddlin’ around
Just like I’m doin’ every night til closing time
Living Golden Dream (Larry W. Jones 12/09/2006) (song#4216)
Once we were together
Under a golden moon and silver stars
The silence of the night
Whispered soft and low it seemed
That our love would last with no bars
It was like all was right
Loving in our living golden dream
But in our living golden dream
There came one day a veil of tears
How I remember well the scene
Now whispered through the years
How our dying golden dream
Turned to rust and disappeared
Tonight finds me alone
Under a golden moon and silver stars
The silence of the night
Whispers soft and low it seems
That our love once had no bars
It was like all was right
Loving in our living golden dream
But I can’t continue to hold on
To a dream that’s not reality
Your sweet love has gone
Along with love’s imortality
But I can’t forget, can’t forget
Our once living golden dream
A Rose Every Day (Larry W. Jones 12/09/2006) (song#4217)
I remember the first time I met them
I was just a country lad of eight or nine
I remember he said she was a gem
And he said he’d love her for all of time
I remember seeing both of them riding
The trail on their ponies just for the thrill
The love they had was never hiding
When they rode to the top of the hill
And he would sing for all to hear
I’ll give you a rose every day, dear
I’ll give you a rose every day
My love won’t fail, we’ll ride every trail
As long as roses bloom in May
I remember seeing them in the evening
Always together as long years went by
The love they had made everyone glad
Especially me, since just a small fry
I remember seeing the love in their eyes
Sometimes they’d invite me to ride along
We’d ride the trails under bluest skies
He’d bring his guitar and sing this song
I’ll give you a rose every day, dear
I’ll give you a rose every day
My love won’t fail, we’ll ride every trail
As long as roses bloom in May
He still rides the trail in the evening
But he’s not the same man anymore
And I think he must still be believing
He’s riding trails with her as before
She’s gone but his love still shows
Up the trail he still makes his way
To the pretty place that she chose
Up on the hilltop he kneels to pray
And brings to her a rose every day
I’ll give you a rose every day, dear
I’ll give you a rose every day
My love won’t fail, we’ll ride every trail
As long as roses bloom in May
I’ll give you a rose every day
Cowboy Blues (Larry W. Jones 12/11/2006) (song#4218)
Who’s gonna fix my saddle horn
Who’s gonna buy my longhorn herd
To put the food on the table
For my little cowboys when they’re born
And the hay for the barn
And the boards for the stable
All those things a cowboy can use
I work the ranch, I brand the cows
If I’m gonna make it, sometimes I wonder how
But cowboy life is the only life I know
Some cowpokes call it Cowboy Blues
I see all the seasons when they call
Sometimes I want to trade these boots for shoes
But I’ll deal with it, big or small
Sometimes I ride out on the trail
Cause I can relate to a coyote’s wail
Sometimes I wish that trail would take me far away
Far away from these Cowboy Blues
The old corral fence is broke
It’s near to falling down
I don my Sunday best and ride into town
At the bank I’m looking for a loan
They send me looking for the trail back home
Might as well have known that they’d refuse
But as I arrive at the old homestead
I smell my supper and hot cornbread
And I see someone with caring eyes of blue
She’s always there and waits for me
Ready to love away these Cowboy Blues
Sweet Darlin’ Cherie (Larry W. Jones 12/12/2006) (song#4219)
I’m just a young cowboy
I live out on the prarie
My pony and my longhorns are my only joy
My days are spent in the saddle
My nights are slept in the open
This life is one that only time can destroy
I watch the moon on the rise
I sit by my campfire
Thinking of home and a lady of cheer
When I close my eyes
The night will inspire
A song that is sung softly and clear
Goodnight to all who might well agree
Rock-a-bye to my sweet darlin’ Cherie
Gold and blue are the colors I choose
Gold is her hair and her eyes are blue
Tonight in my dreams I know where I’ll be
Back in the arms of my sweet darlin’ Cherie
Autumn is the time when the cold winds will blow
Before December the prarie will be covered in snow
Mountains will be dreamlike on acount of the frost
Gotta get these longhorns moving no matter the cost
There’s a song that sailors sing when they’re out at sea
There’s a song that cowboys sing before going to sleep
It’s a song about home and a love that they’ve known
I watch the moon on the rise
I sit by my campfire
Thinking of home and a lady of cheer
When I close my eyes
The night will inspire
A song that is sung softly and clear
Goodnight to all who might well agree
Rock-a-bye to my sweet darlin’ Cherie
Gold and blue are the colors I choose
Gold is her hair and her eyes are blue
Tonight in my dreams I know where I’ll be
Back in the arms of my sweet darlin’ Cherie
Guitar Memory (Larry W. Jones 12/12/2006) (song#4220)
Sneaking down the back street by the bayou
Listen for the beat of country and blues
Mama said it was the wrong side of town
It was where the songs were gettin’ down
In memory I go back every time I can
Listen to my friend, an old black man
He had an old guitar he used to play on
For hours I used to just stay on and learn
Where his fingers went, what his music meant
He said that one day he’d be passing down
That guitar to someone who’d make it burn
And now I’ve got my old black friend’s guitar
With all the scratches from back street bars
I try to play it like he did, from the heart
Sometimes I feel like I’m a part of history
It’s got an old black man’s guitar memory
I remember the night when he passed it down
He said take it boy cause I won’t be around
I try to picture his fingers on the strings
Old black singers knew how to make it ring
Now I play it like an old back street song
And let an old black man’s memory lead me on
And now I’ve got my old black friend’s guitar
With all the scratches from back street bars
I try to play it like he did, from the heart
Sometimes I feel like I’m a part of history
It’s got an old black man’s guitar memory
Listen to my old black friend’s guitar memory
Seasons Of My Heart (Larry W. Jones 12/13/2006) (song#4221)
Once I was young and thought I was cool
A song of love I learned to write
Played my guitar as they taught in school
Thought I sang every line just right
I thought I knew everything about love
After all it was all about you and me
I sang it slow just to let you know
That I would love you for eternity
But the years have erased I love you
From the seasons of my heart
And it’s too late, the time too great
For another love song to start
I wasn’t cool, just young and dumb
I can see back at the start
Time has erased I love you from
The seasons of my heart
I was true and always around
But time itself led you astray
Tears I’ve shed without a sound
Have long washed the song away
I’m through with tears and the years
Won’t let me write that song again
I’ll just dream about the theme
Of a love song that might have been
But the years have erased I love you
From the seasons of my heart
And it’s too late, the time too great
For another love song to start
I wasn’t cool, just young and dumb
I can see back at the start
Time has erased I love you from
The seasons of my heart
Cowboy Gear And A Longhorn Steer (Larry W. Jones 12/14/2006) (song#4222)
Cowboy gear and a longhorn steer
Are the things that I love so
Drivin’ the herd on the trail, I hear
The music of the world I know
Cowboy gear is leather and iron
It’s Saddle and spurs out ridin’ the range
It would appear the west was won
With cowboy gear that never will change
Cowboy gear and a longhorn steer
Movin’ out early on a frosty morn
Someday this life will disappear
Along with the real cowboy’s yarn
But as long as it’s here, I’ll hold it dear
And ride every trail I can find
Cowboy gear and a longhorn steer
Both are good friends of mine
Cowboy gear and a longhorn steer
Someday this life will disappear
But as long as it’s here, I’ll hold it dear
And ride every trail I can find
Cowboy gear and a longhorn steer
Both are good friends of mine
Midnight On The Trail Of The Blues (Larry W. Jones 12/14/2006) (song#4223)
Drivin’ cattle over the trail, listen to coyotes wail
Sometimes at night they don’t want to move
But at least when it’s night, nobody sees me cry
When it’s midnight on the trail of the blues
Midnight can be lonely in a cowboy’s world
And I’m the loneliest cowboy you ever knew
These old blues started the day she departed
And it’s midnight on the trail of the blues
I hear an old hoot owl hooting overhead
Won’t let me sleep in my lonely bedroll
And if I can’t sleep, I can’t dream of you
This trail of blues sure is takin’ it’s toll
But at least when it’s night, nobody sees me cry
When it’s midnight on the trail of the blues
Midnight can be lonely in a cowboy’s world
And I’m the loneliest cowboy you ever knew
These old blues started the day she departed
And it’s midnight on the trail of the blues
Old Cattle Trails Back Home (Larry W. Jones 12/15/2006) (song#4224)
When I was a little Texas cowboy
My Daddy used to rock me in the saddle
On them old cattle trails back home
It was down by old El Paso
Just about a mile from the Rio Grande
On them old cattle trails back home
Well, when those longhorn cattle feel rotten
A cowboy’s dreams are soon forgotten
On them old cattle trails back home
It was down by old El Paso
Just about a mile from the Rio Grande
On them old cattle trails back home
When I was a little Texas cowboy
My Daddy used to rock me in the saddle
On them old cattle trails back home
It was down by old El Paso
Just about a mile from the Rio Grande
On them old cattle trails back home
Well, when those longhorn cattle feel rotten
A cowboy’s dreams are soon forgotten
On them old cattle trails back home
It was down by old El Paso
Just about a mile from the Rio Grande
On them old cattle trails back home
My Bluebonnet Belle (Larry W. Jones 12/15/2006) (song#4225)
My bluebonnet belle, your eyes are so blue
Let me dry your tears, my bluebonnet belle
Now come outside, I’ll show you it’s true
One kiss will make you my bluebonnet belle
My bluebonnet belle, here’s a bluebonnet bouquet
Let these flowers tell you the love words I say
Somewhere your heart was lost
That I surely can tell
I’ll love you whatever the cost
My bluebonnet belle
My bluebonnet belle, your eyes are so blue
Let me dry your tears, my bluebonnet belle
Somewhere your heart was lost
That I surely can tell
I’ll love you whatever the cost
My bluebonnet belle
I’ll love you whatever the cost
My bluebonnet belle
Blue Sapphire Eyes (Larry W. Jones 12/15/2006) (song#4226)
Something shined upon me, sent me out of control
After it vanished, I still had a burning in my soul
All that I remember is a flash of blue sapphire light
That looked right through me on that cool Texas night
I don’t know for sure but I think I understand
As I recall such a tender touch upon my hand
Her kiss was gentle, like one to greatly prize
Then she opened both her blue sapphire eyes
Like all dreams, she disappeared, though I still feel
An empty place deep in my heart that time won’t heal
You may think I’m mad, my words you may despise
But I saw paradise there in her blue sapphire eyes
I don’t know for sure but I think I understand
As I recall such a tender touch upon my hand
Her kiss was gentle, like one to greatly prize
Then she opened both her blue sapphire eyes
You may think I’m mad, my words you may despise
But I saw paradise there in her blue sapphire eyes
Blue Orchid (Larry W. Jones 12/15/2006) (song#4227)
An orchid was planted by a wild, wild red rose
Now the orchid fell in love and held it close
But the rose didn’t show a love that was true
The orchid turned blue with tears just like dew
Some roses are red, some orchids are blue
The red rose I’m sending is wild just as you
Please don’t send any red colored roses to me
Send me an orchid just as blue as it can be
My darlin’, I wanted to hold you so close too
But like a wild rose, you found someone new
A red rose that grows wild is surely to roam
And an orchid turned blue is now left alone
Some roses are red, some orchids are blue
The red rose I’m sending is wild just as you
My darlin’, I wanted to hold you so close too
But like a wild rose, you found someone new
A red rose that grows wild is surely to roam
And an orchid turned blue is now left alone
Cimarron Canyon Trail (Larry W. Jones 12/15/2006) (song#4228)
Angels must descend, nightly as a friend
When the moon shines brightly round the bends
On the Cimarron Canyon trail
Starlight is scattered on every hill and vale
With beauty that’s hard to comprehend
On the Cimarron Canyon trail
Through that valley I’ve ridden
When the moon was so pale
The shadows keep secrets hidden
Behind a purple velvet veil
The peace that I have found
In the mountains that surround
That special place I cannot tell
On the Cimarron Canyon trail
Through that valley I’ve ridden
When the moon was so pale
The shadows keep secrets hidden
Behind a purple velvet veil
The peace that I have found
In the mountains that surround
That special place I cannot tell
On the Cimarron Canyon trail
Gypsy Cowboy Riding By (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4229)
I’m the Gypsy Cowboy and I sing those cowboy songs
Just give me a guitar and I’ll pick it all night long
I can sing the blues that will make you cry
Gypsy Cowboy riding by
I can sing of longhorns or farming with a plow
With these cowboy songs I’ve gotten by somehow
Just toss me a dime or two for the grub I buy
Gypsy Cowboy riding by
Sometimes crowds gather by the two or threes
Calling, Gypsy Cowboy, play something please
They love to hear me play, see my fingers fly
Gypsy Cowboy riding by
There’s a new venue I’m at in every old town square
In my saddlebags they toss their dimes when I’m there
Come to quittin’ time I count my dimes and say goodbye
Gypsy Cowboy riding by
Well, it’s time to hit the trail, headed for the hills
I’m the Gypsy Cowboy with your dimes, not dollar bills
Remember me today because tomorrow I might die
Gypsy Cowboy riding by
Spring On The Trail (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4230)
Green grasses surround them
New dew drops have found them
Bluebirds fly all around them
And tells the flowers it’s Spring
Out on the trail sunshine is falling
On the meadows cattle are sprawling
This time of year there’s no stalling
The coming of Spring on the trail
Flowers are in bloom, love’s in bloom too
Just like perfume, I’m drawn to you, dear
With a trail of flowers to guide us
True love will ride here beside us
Always to sing sweetly inside us
A melody of Spring on the trail
Flowers are in bloom, love’s in bloom too
Just like perfume, I’m drawn to you, dear
With a trail of flowers to guide us
True love will ride here beside us
Always to sing sweetly inside us
A melody of Spring on the trail
Three Ride The Trail (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4231)
We ride where the purple sage grows free
My sweetheart, my pony and me
True companions forever we will be
My sweetheart, my pony and me
If my sweetheart were to ever say goodbye
My pony and I would surely die
But she’s right here riding with me
Though only in my memory
When we three ride the trail, we’re free
My sweetheart, my pony and me
But look closely, for you cannot see
How lonely is my pony and me
If my sweetheart were to ever say goodbye
My pony and I would surely die
But she’s right here riding with me
Though only in my memory
When we three ride the trail, we’re free
My sweetheart, my pony and me
But look closely, for you cannot see
How lonely is my pony and me
Twilight Cowboy Song (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4232)
Majestic Colorado, your trails are awaiting
Your mountain tops, the setting sun awaiting
My twilight cowboy song
My twilight cowboy song
Your waterfalls come down descending
To hear the echos of the blending of
My twilight cowboy song
My twilight cowboy song
Your valley streams quietly murmer
Cool breezes float through Aspen trees
Gently begging, gently begging
My heart to sing again
Love for majestic Colorado in
My twilight cowboy song
My twilight cowboy song
I love you, adore you, Colorado
And a cowboy’s heart just can’t be wrong
I love you, adore you, Colorado
Colorado, where this cowboy belongs
Majestic Colorado, your trails are awaiting
Your mountain tops, the setting sun awaiting
My twilight cowboy song
My twilight cowboy song
I’ll Find You There (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4233)
I ride my pony like the restless wind
Up every trail to the most distant hill
Where the moon hangs low
And the lowly whippoorwill
Says that I might find you there
I ride my pony by every valley stream
That flows all the way to the sea
Where the sky is blue, and it seems
That the water whispers to me
To say I might find you there
As I ride I look for the sight of you
I look at every stranger I meet
I know that one just might be you
I’ll know you whenever we meet
I ride my pony in search of your love
The love of my heart is waiting somewhere
I’ll ride all the trails to the end of the earth
For on one of them I’ll find you there
As I ride I look for the sight of you
I look at every stranger I meet
I know that one just might be you
I’ll know you whenever we meet
I ride my pony in search of your love
The love of my heart is waiting somewhere
I’ll ride all the trails to the end of the earth
For on one of them I’ll find you there
Cowboy Symphony Of You (Larry W. Jones 12/16/2006) (song#4234)
The words and music that I write
And the cowboy song that I sing
Is played on every Saturday night
With echos on steel guitar strings
It’s got the words and it’s got the tune
That tell my love to the man in the moon
And when we waltz, I can find no faults
In my cowboy symphony of you
Some songs are meant for cowboys to sing
To the Texas two step and western swing
Listen and you’ll hear words of love so true
In my cowboy symphony of you
It tells all that I feel down deep in my heart
Steel guitars playing rose petals falling apart
I’m sure you understand for you must know
That whenever I’m holding you I love you so
It’s got the words and it’s got the tune
That tell my love to the man in the moon
And when we waltz, I can find no faults
In my cowboy symphony of you
When The Bluebonnets Bloom (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4235)
The fairest flower that Texas knows
Has the power to outshine the rose
Many poets have written the sonnet
Of the blue, blue Texas bluebonnet
Not a simple flower and never plain
From its blue beauty comes its name
Like a robin, bluebonnets in bloom
Say that Spring has arrived so soon
This flower grows in the rocks and rills
And like a blanket covers the Texas hills
Joy to the Texas world is what they say
When the bluebonnets bloom in May
Now let me sing that Robin’s song
For bluebonnets say Winter is gone
Not a simple flower and never plain
From its blue beauty comes its name
Like a robin, bluebonnets in bloom
Say that Spring has arrived so soon
This flower grows in the rocks and rills
And like a blanket covers the Texas hills
Joy to the Texas world is what they say
When the bluebonnets bloom in May
My Dear Texas Someone (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4236)
I’m gonna ride all over Texas
This state where I’m happy to be
I’m gonna find that dear someone
Who’s waiting in Texas for me
I’ll ride my pony, steadfast and true
And when my ride has been done
I’ll find a dream that once I knew
Where is my dear Texas someone
A big Texas star is shining tonight
It’s shining down wherever you are
I’ll follow that star, calm and bright
Oh, please now, don’t lead me afar
I’ll ride my pony at a galloping rate
For my love quest has now begun
Just like the wind I won’t hesitate
I will find my dear Texas someone
Just like the wind I won’t hesitate
I will find my dear Texas someone
That Day In Spring (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4237)
I’m sure you remember that day in Spring
The Texas sky was blue and so clear
You were pretty in a cowgirl hat’s shadow
And you whispered, I love you, in my ear
Those love words are still in the meadow
Bluebonnets still quote them by heart
They wonder where could you have gone
And wonder why you and I drifted apart
I’m sure you remember that day in May
The Texas sun shined in the sky above
You pressed your lips so warmly to mine
And then you said that you’d be my love
I thought that you would never leave me
And so I gave my heart to you eternally
I gave you my heart in that field of blue
I was in love, so what else could I do
The bluebonnets say they heard you
When you whispered softly I love you
The bluebonnets aren’t the ones only
That heard you say that you’d be true
Buttercups cry because they’re lonely
And the whippoorwill’s lonesome call
Makes all the flowers cry, sweetheart
But I’m the one who’s crying most of all
Rodeo Clown (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4238)
At eighteen I left from home
To ride on the rodeo circuit
I guess I knew I didn’t belong
But I thought I could make it
I sent some of my winnings back to Mama
Told her that I would soon return
But that old rodeo held too much drama
And I was just too young to learn
I was looking for eight on a wild bronco
Another bad number pulled from the hat
One more show and one more throw
It was all a blur and now my wallet’s flat
No more broncs said the stock chute boss
Boy, you can’t take on so many losses
So I sold my gear at the next rodeo town
The crowds now cheer for a rodeo clown
Texas Ranger (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4239)
Have badge will ride, reads the five pointed star
A Texas lawman without a fence, without a bar
A big iron on his hip, a Texas Ranger is a man
For a trip of law from the Red to the Rio Grande
Texas Ranger, Texas Ranger
Oh, tell where do you call home
Anywhere to find an outlaw stranger
Is where a Texas Ranger roams
He rides across rivers and through the dust
This lawman draws like quicksilver if he must
Many are the legends, all of them are strong
Of the fearless Texas Rangers righting wrong
There’s gonna be a riot , said the telegraph
Hurry and send some lawmen, lawmen bold
When just one Ranger came, they all laughed
But he said, there’s only one riot I was told
Texas Ranger, Texas Ranger
Oh, tell where do you call home
Anywhere to find an outlaw stranger
Is where a Texas Ranger roams
San Antonio Waltz (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4240)
The night I danced with my darlin’
The dark Texas sky was full of stars
Down by the Alamo there was singing
A Mariachi band with Spanish guitars
The melody that they were playing
There beside those Alamo walls
Did not need words for saying
Amor, mi amor, San Antonio Waltz
Her words were sweet as she whispered to me
Amor, mi amor, to be your love I want to be
Now she’s gone from me and those Alamo walls
I remember San Antone and the San Antonio Waltz
Her words were sweet as she whispered to me
Amor, mi amor, to be your love I want to be
Now she’s gone from me and those Alamo walls
I remember San Antone and the San Antonio Waltz
Brand New Penny (Larry W. Jones 12/17/2006) (song#4241)
She boarded the plane all alone
High school diploma in her hand
Now leaving her childhood home
For a new life she had planned
In the window came a new beginning
She had a letter from Mama around
Taped inside, a brand new penny
And a phone number written down
The letter said, if you get lonesome
If you need anything, anything at all
The new penny’s for your thoughts
And the number’s for you to call
As for money, we never had enough
The new penny’s for your thoughts
And the number’s for you to call
That’s what a mother’s love is for
A brand new penny can’t buy anything
But it brings your Mama all your thoughts
She wondered what her life would bring
Holding her Mama’s letter that she brought
The letter said, if you get lonesome
If you need anything, anything at all
The new penny’s for your thoughts
And the number’s for you to call
As for money, we never had enough
The new penny’s for your thoughts
And the number’s for you to call
That’s what a mother’s love is for
The new penny’s for your thoughts
And the number’s for you to call
Blue Beam In My Blue Moon (Larry W. Jones 12/18/2006) (song#4242)
You’re the blue beam in my blue moon
Just a dream that used to shine on me
You’re the blue beam in my blue moon
It seems that you no longer care for me
Now, a star can be a guiding light
The moon can light a love at night
But a golden moon that’s on the rise
Will turn to blue if that love dies
You’re the blue beam in my blue moon
Just a dream that used to shine on me
You’re the blue beam in my blue moon
It seems that you no longer care for me
Now, a star can be a guiding light
The moon can light a love at night
But a golden moon that’s on the rise
Will turn to blue if that love dies
You’re the blue beam in my blue moon
Just a dream that used to shine on me
My Sweet Annie (Larry W. Jones 12/18/2006) (song#4243)
Sometimes I ride the trails in the evening
And it becomes a ride down mem’ry lane
Rocking along those familiar trails bring
Thoughts of someone I’ll never see again
But I always recall my darling
Just as sweet as she could be
Riding beside me in the Spring
On a trail leading to the valley
Big blue eyes and golden hair
Everybody knew my sweet Annie
Life was lived without a care
Everybody loved my sweet Annie
Sometimes in the daytime we’d go riding
Side by side in the warm sunshine
For our love there would be no dividing
I still feel her hand holding mine
Now as I go riding along this lonely trail
I dream of my sweet Annie through the veil
But I always recall my darling
Just as sweet as she could be
Riding beside me in the Spring
On a trail leading to the valley
Big blue eyes and golden hair
Everybody knew my sweet Annie
Life was lived without a care
Everybody loved my sweet Annie
Sweet Annie was beyond compare
If It’s Right Then I’m Not Wrong (Larry W. Jones 12/18/20060 (song#4244)
If it’s right, then I’m not wrong
When I tell you that I love you
It’s not right that you’re gone
But it’s not wrong to not forget
If it’s right, then I’m not wrong
To tell you that I’m dreaming
Though it’s not the right song
It’s still wrong to be in regret
You left me alone and it’s wrong
It’s not right that I should lose you
I prayed for you to hear my song
That sounded right when you were true
Is it wrong that you’re in my heart
If it’s right then please remember
If it’s right, then I’m not wrong
When I tell you that I love you
There’s A Blue Moon Turning To Gold Tonight (Larry W. Jones 12/18/2006) (song#4245)
Once I was lonesome, and downhearted
My world, it seemed, just was not right
Then you came, dear, my blues departed
There’s a blue moon turning to gold tonight
Now that I’ve found you, love will surround you
Straight from this heart that’s feeling light
Just be true, dear, cause I love you, dear
There’s a blue moon turning to gold tonight
Never leave me, for that would grieve me
And make my dreams drift out of sight
I would cry, dear, you’d make me die, dear
If my golden moon turned blue tonight
I hear a song now, won’t be long now
Until I know, that your love is right
I won’t be lonely, with your love only
There’s a blue moon turning to gold tonight
There’s a blue moon turning to gold tonight
Silver Dew On Purple Sage Tonight (Larry W. Jones 12/18/2006) (song#4246)
A golden moon was shining brightly
Over an old western prarie home
The scented wind blew there nightly
A lonely girl put down her comb
She started writing words with care
To her sweetheart roaming somewhere
There’s silver dew on purple sage tonight
The golden moon shines with silver light
Cowboy, darling, wish you were here with me
Cause then you could see
There’s silver dew on purple sage tonight
Stars like silver shine on the prarie tonight
Darling, I hope you get this letter that I write
Keep on riding back home to me
For I’m lonely on this prarie
For only you, my love’s still burning bright
There’s silver dew on purple sage tonight
And I pray that all with you is right
When you dream, please dream of me
Darling, when you read this page you’ll see
There’s silver dew on purple sage tonight
Darling, when you read this page you’ll see
There’s silver dew on purple sage tonight
Words Of Love On The Wind (Larry W. Jones 12/18/2006) (song#4247)
Years ago you and I were sweethearts
Your words of love I can’t forget
And I still think of you, my darling
But my thoughts only bring regret
Your words were, I love you, I love you
Now you’re gone and I don’t understand
But no matter, even though I feel blue
I still hear you words of love on the wind
Times have been lonely without you
And I guess I’ve waited for you in vain
But even though you’re gone, my darling
On the wind I hear the same refrain
Your words were, I love you, I love you
Now you’re gone and I don’t understand
But no matter, even though I feel blue
I still hear you words of love on the wind
Times have been lonely without you
And I guess I’ve waited for you in vain
But even though you’re gone, my darling
On the wind I hear the same refrain
Your words were, I love you, I love you
Now you’re gone and I don’t understand
But no matter, even though I feel blue
I still hear you words of love on the wind
Just Shot Past Hot Springs (Larry W. Jones 12/19/2006) (song#4248)
Yesterday I left my dreams in Houston
Back in that bayou city with you
It’s a pity I had to run
But I was tired of feeling blue
I gassed up the tank in Texarkana
Just as I had planned
Reset the stations on the radio
Watched for the law man
Now I just shot past Hot Springs
Following the white dotted line
Don’t know what the road will bring
But I’ve gotta get you off my mind
Gotta keep my hands on the wheel
While my heart is weeping still
This old blacktop is turning blue
And I can’t stop me from loving you
Now I just shot past Hot Springs
But it’s not gettin’ me over you
Staring at headlights in the dark
Like deer in the headlights do
Hear the blare of a honky tonk bar
On the radio that sounds like you
I wish we had turned things around
Before I left that old Astrodome
But I’m here and I’m Nashville bound
By tomorrow you’ll know I’m gone
Now I just shot past Hot Springs
Following the white dotted line
Don’t know what the road will bring
But I’ve gotta get you off my mind
Gotta keep my hands on the wheel
While my heart is weeping still
This old blacktop is turning blue
And I can’t stop me from loving you
Now I just shot past Hot Springs
But it’s not gettin’ me over you
I’m Your Buckeroo (Larry W. Jones 12/19/2006) (song#4249)
If you’re looking for a cool guy, fool guy
Some full dyed in the wool guy
Then I’m not the man for you
But if it’s a mustang that you can’t tame
Somebody whose love is true
Then I’m your buckeroo
I can tip my hat with a yes m’am
But I confess that I’m not a lamb
If you’re looking for a man with bravado
Then you just found your Eldorado
I’m not braggin’, it’s true
Cause I’m your buckeroo
This here’s what I’m gonna do
Whisper in your ear that I love you
Then I’ll be your buckeroo
Don’t have a lot of money, now hear
But I can be your buckeroo honey, dear
Just as long as I’m your deatination
I can be your true blue vocation
I’ll be your buckeroo any time of year
Now if you like to rodeo in Amarillo
Drink Lone Star with the armadillo
Believe me when I’m tellin’ you
I’m your buckeroo
Back On The Trail Where I Belong (Larry W. Jones 12/19/2006) (song#4250)
There’s a little ranch tucked on a mountain
In Colorado that used to be my home
And every time I think of the trails I’ve run
I can’t believe I’ve been gone so long
I remember the sweet smell of barbecue
Sittin’ ’round a campfire singin’ songs
Ridin’ down trails under skies of blue
And folks knew what was right and wrong
This old city must be miles around
Too many people make too big a throng
If I find my way, I’m homeward bound
Back on the trail where I belong
I wonder if the old corral is empty
If the little ranch has paid the loan
I’d give most anything just to be
Back on the trail where I belong
This old city must be miles around
Too many people make too big a throng
If I find my way, I’m homeward bound
Back on the trail where I belong
Along The Banks Of The Old Rio Grande (Larry W. Jones 12/23/2006) (song#4251)
I rode down to Texas from old Cheyenne
On a pony without a name or a brand
I stopped to listen to a Mexican band
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
A pretty senorita who looked like a dream
Strolled by me in the hot Texas sand
We both fell in love there by the stream
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
I asked her if she would stay for awhile
For I thought I might ask for her hand
She said si, si, with her lovely smile
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
I didn’t tell her why I left Cheyenne
On a fast pony over mountains I ran
I just told her I’d buy her a gold band
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
Then came a man dressed in law clothes
A poster read that I was a wanted man
I left a pretty senorita without an Adios
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
I’m back in Cheyenne serving my term
Seeing a senorita’s tears in the sand
I’m dreaming that some day I’ll return
Along the banks of the old Rio Grande
Wasted Love And Withered Roses (Larry W. Jones 12/23/2006) (song#4252)
Wasted love and withered roses
In broken hearts and memory
Wasted love and withered roses
Both grow in mine so easily
I can’t bring back our yesterday
It’s gone like withered roses
I can’t bring back love’s old way
When like a flower it closes
Wasted love and withered roses
Is the price that time will pay
Wasted love and withered roses
Think twice of the words you say
Once we tasted love like flowers growing side by side
Now that love’s wasted like a withered rose that died
I can’t bring back our yesterday
It’s gone like withered roses
I can’t bring back love’s old way
When like a flower it closes
A broken dream now discloses
Our love wasn’t meant to be
Wasted love and withered roses
Lives and grows in my memory
Cotton Pickin’ Railroad Blues (Larry W. Jones 12/24/2006) (song#4253)
Now, I was born in Texarkana
In the middle of a cotton patch
Yeah, I was born in Texarkana
Not far from the railroad track
I picked cotton in the heat of day
Heard the train’s whistle at night
I picked cotton in the heat of day
Thought of disappearin’ from sight
That old train’s load of new cotton
Disappeared down the track from view
I rode some dreams I’ve forgotten
With the cotton pickin’ railroad blues
Now, my Daddy was a cotton picker
My Mama was a hard working soul
Now, what can I say about my sister
Except that Texarkana took its toll
When I think about pickin’ cotton
I just put on my travellin’ shoes
And on the track of dreams forgotten
Sing the cotton pickin’ railroad blues
That old train’s load of new cotton
Disappeared down the track from view
I rode some dreams I’ve forgotten
With the cotton pickin’ railroad blues
When I think about pickin’ cotton
I just put on my travellin’ shoes
And on the track of dreams forgotten
Sing the cotton pickin’ railroad blues
I’ll Be Your Cowboy (Larry W. Jones 12/24/2006) (song#4254)
Well, I’ll be your cowboy
And I do mean, oh boy
If you’ll be the cowgirl for me
And I’ll be your hero
You’ll never get a zero
If you’ll be the cowgirl for me
I can rope and I can ride
If you’ll just be the cowgirl by my side
I’ll let you do the cookin’
If you’ll let me do the lookin’
When I ask you if you’ll be my bride
Darlin’, I’ll be your cowboy
If you’ll be the cowgirl for me
I can rope and I can ride
If you’ll just be the cowgirl by my side
I’ll let you do the cookin’
If you’ll let me do the lookin’
When I ask you if you’ll be my bride
Darlin’, I’ll be your cowboy
If you’ll be the cowgirl for me
Lost Dream Train Of Mine (Larry W. Jones 12/24/2006) (song#4255)
Hear that lonesome train roll by
It keeps rolling on down the line
Listen to that lonely whistle cry
It’s that lost dream train of mine
Have you ever known a train so long
A thousand wheels slowly crawling by
I’d sing a song of what went wrong
But it’d be so sad that I would cry
Hear that ‘ol lonesome whippoorwill
There’s a lost love he can’t find
She’s like that train beyond the hill
It’s that lost dream train of mine
Now, hear my lonesome blue guitar
I can make these strings all whine
Like the whistle on that train afar
It’s that lost dream train of mine
Have you ever known a train so long
A thousand wheels slowly crawling by
I’d sing a song of what went wrong
But it’d be so sad that I would cry
Hear that ‘ol lonesome whippoorwill
There’s a lost love he can’t find
She’s like that train beyond the hill
It’s that lost dream train of mine
Trail Of Years (Larry W. Jones 12/24/2006) (song#4256)
Let’s ride back down the trail of years
We’ll ride back to those times of yesterday
Let’s try to forget these years of regret
After our love seemed to just slip away
Back there you were happy and so was I
That kind of love wasn’t meant for tears
I can’t remember what caused it to die
Let’s ride back down the trail of years
I know, darlin’, that time goes on
It travels in one direction, I know
But darlin’, a line has been drawn
We can ride back to that long ago
Back there you were happy and so was I
That kind of love wasn’t meant for tears
I can’t remember what caused it to die
Let’s ride back down the trail of years
Back there you were happy and so was I
That kind of love wasn’t meant for tears
I can’t remember what caused it to die
Let’s ride back down the trail of years
Lawman’s Whistle (Larry W. Jones 12/24/2006) (song#4257)
I was in trouble back at home
So, on the double I did roam
When I heard that southbound whistle blow
The train was rollin’ through the pines
South of the Mason Dixon line
When I heard that lawman’s whistle blow
Just a young cowboy playin’ smart
I broke that sweet girl’s heart, I know
Up there where the wide Missouri flows
Well, I got off that southbound line
Wearin’ a chain they said was mine
When I heard that lawman’s whistle blow
Now I’m back in Missouri feelin’ shame
And there’s no one but me to blame
Back up here I sure am feelin’ low
I hear that southbound train rollin’ by
And I just hang my head and cry
When I heard that lawman’s whistle blow
Now, as I sit here I can surely tell
That I might be here for quite a spell
And I know that girl of mine will never show
They said she left Missouri in the rain
To forget someone who caused her pain
When she heard that southbound whistle blow
I hear that southbound train rollin’ by
And I just hang my head and cry
When I heard that lawman’s whistle blow
Lost Trail Of Life (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4258)
Lost on the trail, riding through the night
There’s a veil that keeps love from sight
Riding along, following the piper’s fife
I’m lost on the trail, the lost trail of life
I asked you dear, let love lead the way
But I guess you didn’t hear me that day
Your words to me with lies were rife
I’m lost on the trail, the lost trail of life
I ride a lonely trail, and my heart weeps
Thru the veil I see, a heart another keeps
Tomorrow you’re gonna start a new life
I’m lost on the trail, the lost trail of life
I asked you dear, let love lead the way
But I guess you didn’t hear me that day
I ride a lonely trail, and my heart weeps
Thru the veil I see, a heart another keeps
Tomorrow you’re gonna start a new life
I’m lost on the trail, the lost trail of life
Twenty First Century Cowboy Man (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4259)
I’ve got a dollar in my pocket
And a dream that I can’t land
Neither one will get me very far
I’m a twenty first century cowboy man
I’ll fly up to Cheyenne City
Or drive across a desert land
This rodeo life ain’t pretty
But I’m a twenty first century cowboy man
I’ve ridden dreams searching for tomorrow
But they’ve all thrown me for more sorrow
What will the next tomorrow bring
At one rodeo they call me a hero
But at the next just a rodeo clown
There’s nothing between nothing and zero
For a twenty first century cowboy man
I used to be so happy
I used to be so glad
Now I don’t have a single fan
I’m a sad twenty first century cowboy man
This ain’t how it was suppossed to be
But I believe everything is gone
With a dollar in my pocket
And a dream that I can’t land
This broken cowboy’s headin’ home
I’ve ridden dreams searching for tomorrow
But they’ve all thrown me for more sorrow
What will the next tomorrow bring
For a twenty first century cowboy man
It’s A Fine Texas Morning (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4260)
It’s a fine Texas morning
I think I’ll ride the trails for awhile
It always makes me smile
Just breathing the west Texas air
The sunshine is warm and I’ve got the time
It won’t do no harm to this heart of mine
It’s a fine Texas morning everywhere
It’s a fine Texas morning
A bluebird is singing my song
He sings it so long
Well, I’ve got to saddle up now
I’ve got trails to cover
New places to discover
No reason to stay inside anyhow
There will be breezes
Caressing the pretty wild flowers
A fine Texas morning pleases
Like a child climbing a tower
I think I’ll ride the trails just to see
Which way they’ll take me today
It’s a fine Texas morning to be
In love, and your heart says it’s OK
It’s a fine Texas morning everywhere
Hoppy’s Happy Cowboy Son (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4261)
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
Wherever I ride I take my pride
I don’t cater to lawless fun
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
I wander the waste land, wherever I’m chased and
Any fair argument I always win
I’ve ridden every trail, hidden from every jail
Except the ones that I’ve been in
My pony is my best friend, a cowgirl was, but then
I kissed my horse too many times
That girl was gonna be my wife, but to save my life
I had to ride into the sunset blind
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
Wherever I ride I take my pride
I don’t cater to lawless fun
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
When I ride out of town with the stars still hangin’ round
I get a wink from the man in the moon
Everybody knows I’m Hoppy’s son, and I can’t be outdone
When I’m closin’ up every town saloon
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
Wherever I ride I take my pride
I don’t cater to lawless fun
With a song and a rhyme, and a dollar and a dime
I’m Hoppy’s happy cowboy son
I Told My Heart The Truth (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4262)
I told my heart the truth when I told it that I love you
Even though it’s true that we’re apart
I told my heart that I was not mistaken
Though forsaken, I told the truth to my heart
I told my heart that I would always love you
Even though it’s true that we’re apart
I told my heart to prepare for years of sorrow
I told it to beware of breaking apart
I told my heart the truth, that it would pay
When the dreams of youth and love hardly start
I told my heart the truth, that it must live without you
And I told it to forgive from the heart
I told my heart the truth when I told it that I love you
Even though it’s true that we’re apart
I told my heart that I was not mistaken
Though forsaken, I told the truth to my heart
Cabin In The Vale (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4263)
Tonight up here on the hillside
Lonesome doesn’t tell all the tale
As I sit alone in my mansion
I can see your cabin in the vale
I recall the day that we parted
I remember each parting word still
I said that I could live without loving
In my loveless mansion on the hill
You’ve waited all these long years, love
Hoping that your dreams I would fulfill
Because you know I’m living in sorrow
In my loveless mansion on the hill
You see lights so bright in my window
Down there the trees are silent and still
You know I’m alone with my pride, dear
In my loveless mansion on the hill
Tonight up here on the hillside
Lonesome doesn’t tell all the tale
As I sit alone in my mansion
I can see your cabin in the vale
Sonnet Of A Texas Bluebonnet (Larry W. Jones 12/25/2006) (song#4264)
(spoken)
This is the story of a musical sonnet
Written by a girl to her cowboy about a Texas bluebonnet
Over by Austin in the Texas hill country
There lived a cowboy and a girl who loved him so
And every night ‘neath a cottonwood tree
They pledged that their love forever would grow
And she wrote a sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
For him to keep in his pocket by his heart’s door
He took the sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
Mounted his pony for the range to explore
The trail boss gave orders for the west Texas border
Driving longhorns up the Goodnight-Loving trail again
In his shirt pocket was her sonnet as he rode away
Promising to quit roaming after this roundup of strays
And she wrote a sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
For him to keep in his pocket by his heart’s door
He took the sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
Mounted his pony for the range to explore
The cattle drive was over but he never came to Austin
The trail boss said he had been thrown to the ground
But here is a note that he always carried in his pocket
A handwritten sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet we found
And she wrote a sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
For him to keep in his pocket by his heart’s door
He took the sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
Mounted his pony for the range to explore
And she wrote a sonnet of a Texas bluebonnet
For him to keep in his pocket by his heart’s door
Dreams Will Live On Forever (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4265)
The world of real cowboys has faded away
But their dreams will live on forever
I’m a real cowboy, but what else can I say
Nothing came of my dream’s endeavor
New loves by the millions have lived and died
But all those old dreams just drift on forever
Now fast lanes and jet planes go flying by
But this cowboy’s dream is gone however
Once I had hopes, now I have only fears
That I’ll never find a true love for me
Alone now I grope, amid all these tears
That are shed for our love’s tragedy
The world of real cowboys has faded away
But their dreams will live on forever
I’m a real cowboy, but what else can I say
Return to this cowboy’s dream some day
The world of real cowboys has faded away
But their dreams will live on forever
I’m a real cowboy, but what else can I say
Return to this cowboy’s dream some day
An Evening Star (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4266)
There was a star up in heaven
That I wished to be down here in my arms
An evening star as bright as ever seen
As soon as I found out
I had no doubt about your charms
When you fell from the sky like a dream
An evening star is what you are
Your eyes have a twinkle straight from the milky way
Darling, you are so rare, even your hair has a silky lay
An evening star is what you are, I say
The man in the moon must be jealous and blue
He can’t help it ’cause you are now mine
And all of the stars in the blue will surely miss you
They can’t help but see how you shine
An evening star is what you are, and I love you
And all of the stars in the blue will surely miss you
They can’t help but see how you shine
An evening star is what you are, and I love you
Four Legged Pony And A One Eyed Dog (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4267)
A four legged pony and a one eyed dog
Both of them are my true friends
Neither have ever let me down
My pony has an honest face
And my one eyed dog is always around
Now a woman can be deceitful to the point of pain
She can be fleetful in breaking your heart again
She can get the title to your ranch and saddle and spurs
So, it’s vital that you branch out with friends that’s not hers
A four legged pony and a one eyed dog
Both of them are my true friends
Neither have ever let me down
My pony has an honest face
And my one eyed dog is always around
Now a mean old trail boss won’t be your friend
He’ll hollar and shout about gettin’ longhorns penned
He’ll feed you hardtack, old coffee and beans
And dock your pay for an old pair of Levi jeans
A four legged pony and a one eyed dog
Both of them are my true friends
Neither have ever let me down
My pony has an honest face
And my one eyed dog is always around
My four legged pony knows the true cowboy’s code
And my one eyed dog runs sideways down the road
They don’t ask me no questions, I don’t tell then no lies
My four legged pony and my one eyed dog
Are my true friends under western skies
A four legged pony and a one eyed dog
Both of them are my true friends
Neither have ever let me down
My pony has an honest face
And my one eyed dog is always around
Saddlebag Of Love Songs (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4268)
I’ve got a saddlebag full of songs to sing to you
And my heart has a white flag it will bring to you
Country songs, western songs and cowboy songs
All of them will bring you happiness
You couldn’t ask for more
And I would never bring you less
Wherever our dreams may lead to
We’ll travel whatever trail we need to
And we’ll find true love we’ve agreed to
In country songs
And western tunes
And cowboy serenades
Love that’s strong
Under golden moons
With country hit parades
I’ve got a saddlebag full of songs to sing to you
And my heart has a white flag it will bring to you
My love for you, love, is love that’s not cheap
My love is a saddlebag of love songs you can keep
A saddlebag of love songs
A saddlebag of love songs
A saddlebag of love songs I’ll sing to you
A Heart In Old San Antone (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4269)
San Antone, to your hacienda I ride
San Antone, by the banks of your stream I’ll abide
San Antone, I’ll be there before dark
To listen to Mariachis in the park
San Antone, you’re a scene from a dreamer’s heart
And there’s a heart that’s alive in old San Antone
A heart in old San Antone
A Mexican rose on the street
Every love song is of your heartbeat
A heart in old San Antone
With a love that’s hard to find
San Antone, to your hacienda I ride
To find a heart made for mine
San Antone, you’re a scene from a dreamer’s heart
And there’s a heart that’s alive in old San Antone
San Antone, to your hacienda I ride
And I’ll no more ride the trail alone
With a heart in old San Antone
Cowboy Down To My Soul (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4270)
Well, I’m more that a little bit country
Cause I’m a cowboy down to my soul
Born in Texas and raised in Nashville
Singin’ ’bout stacks blowin’ black as coal
It’s gotta be good cause it ain’t all bad
And that’s why I really love it so
I’m more that a little bit country
Cause I’m a cowboy down to my soul
Now, I can be gentle, or I can be wild
Depends on whether I’m loved or riled
Either way I’m happy singin’ songs that’s sad
When cowboy music is in control
I’m more that a little bit country
Cause I’m a cowboy down to my soul
There’s something about a good country song
You can play it loud on a jukebox all night long
Texas and Nashville has the heart and soul
Like doin’ that ‘ol San Antonio stroll
I know the feelin’s gonna be just right
From Amarillo to the Gulf of Mexico
I’m more that a little bit country
Cause I’m a cowboy down to my soul
I’m more that a little bit country
Cause I’m a cowboy down to my soul
Old Cowboy’s Homestead (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4271)
It’s just a little rancher’s spread
Where old cowboy’s boots have tread
I’m thinking of ridin’ back
To that old cowboy’s homestead
Some people say the place is too old
Kinda like me, is what they said
I may be old, but that place is gold
That little rancher’s spread
I’ve never been rich, but I’m not poor
Cause there’s one thing I know for sure
I’ll still be welcome, with hair of grey
As west Texas flowers blooming in May
It’s just a little rancher’s spread
Where old cowboy’s boots have tread
I’m thinking of ridin’ back
To that old cowboy’s homestead
I’ve never been rich, but I’m not poor
Cause there’s one thing I know for sure
I’ll still be welcome, with hair of grey
As west Texas flowers blooming in May
It’s just a little rancher’s spread
Where old cowboy’s boots have tread
I’m thinking of ridin’ back
To that old cowboy’s homestead
This Texas Bluebonnet (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4272)
Please take this Texas bluebonnet
That blooms in April and May
Please wear it with care, dear
Don’t ever toss it away
When you look at this Texas bluebonnet
You’ll see a message that words cannot say
For I’ll be as blue as this Texas bluebonnet
When you leave this town and go far away
Tomorrow may bring rain or sunshine from above
I’m sure it will be rain while we’re apart
Take this Texas bluebonnet as a token of my love
Protect it and wear it close to your heart
And if the trails we travel ever meet again
Whether by chance or some unknown design
This Texas bluebonnet will be sweet again
For then I’ll know that your heart is still mine
Tomorrow may bring rain or sunshine from above
I’m sure it will be rain while we’re apart
Take this Texas bluebonnet as a token of my love
Protect it and wear it close to your heart
And if the trails we travel ever meet again
Whether by chance or some unknown design
This Texas bluebonnet will be sweet again
For then I’ll know that your heart is still mine
I Don’t Wanna Sing Another Sad Song (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4273)
There’s a whippoorwill in a weeping willow tree
He doesn’t fly, just sings low and sighs like me
He knows I can’t be with you, so his song is blue
We could be brothers, the whippoorwill and I
But somehow I’ve gotta try, to somehow get by
Even though I know I’m gonna cry, cause…
I don’t wanna sing another sad song
I don’t wanna have empty arms all night long
I just wanna have you near me
To dry the tears off this weeping willow tree
The cricket’s singing in the thicket tonight
The firefly’s lighting its own way so bright
I can’t get you off my mind, I feel confined
There’s another star burning thru the sky
Another trail of dreams saying goodbye
I wanna sing a love song to you so bad
But the only kind I know now are only sad
I don’t wanna sing another sad song
I don’t wanna have empty arms all night long
I just wanna have you near me
To dry the tears off this weeping willow tree
I don’t wanna sing another sad song
I don’t wanna sing another sad song
A Thousand Trails Ago (Larry W. Jones 12/26/2006) (song#4274)
They told me it would be so
A thousand trails ago
I remember all your charms
A thousand trails ago
So many trails I’ve ridden down
Nights spent out all alone
Should ‘a known you’d skip town
A thousand trails ago
I’ll stash my mem’ries of you under my hat
Cause there’s no room in my heart for them all
Through the years I’ll know where they’re at
In case there’s some of them I want to recall
Adios to good fortune, old friend
Ride where the lonely trails go
You didn’t know that love would end
A thousand trails ago
I’ll stash my mem’ries of you under my hat
Cause there’s no room in my heart for them all
Through the years I’ll know where they’re at
In case there’s some of them I want to recall
Adios to good fortune, old friend
Ride where the lonely trails go
You didn’t know that love would end
A thousand trails ago
This Poor Cowboy’s Rose (Larry W. Jones 12/27/2006) (song#4275)
Darlin’, make up your mind today
Tell me which way your love goes
Will a rich man’s gold steal you away
Or will you be this poor cowboy’s rose
That man’s gold could buy the King Ranch
But why settle for something cold
He’ll never learn to love or give an inch
Cause he will only love his gold
You can be this poor cowboy’s rose
And I’m sure we can find happiness
Cause true love in a garden grows
Where love is sealed with every kiss
This poor cowboy brings you love tonight
I’m sure you’ll see that it shows
I’ll sing you a song of love that’s right
If you’ll be this poor cowboy’s rose
You can be this poor cowboy’s rose
And I’m sure we can find happiness
Cause true love in a garden grows
Where love is sealed with every kiss
This poor cowboy brings you love tonight
I’m sure you’ll see that it shows
I’ll sing you a song of love that’s right
If you’ll be this poor cowboy’s rose
My Montana Dream (Larry W. Jones 12/27/2006) (song#4276)
I’ve got a big state with a view
Montana’s big sky of bright blue
And it’s all about you
My Montana dream
I’ve got a big state with a view
I’ve got a big date with you
I’m so glad you made your debut
My Montana dream
No, it’s not the big moon
That shines from heaven above
And it’s not the bright stars
In Montana’s night sky thereof
I’m just biding my time
Writing a song with a theme
Of a big love that’s mine
My Montana dream
I’ve got a big state with a view
I’ve got a big date with you
I’m so glad you made your debut
My Montana dream
I’m just biding my time
Writing a song with a theme
Of a big love that’s mine
My Montana dream
A Million Square Miles (Larry W. Jones 12/31/2006) (song#4277)
Send away the modern world
There’s too much bright light for me
The skyline is much to high to see
All the stars I know are there when twilight falls
A million square miles
Would be the right size for me
I need some streams that I could cross
Lots of trails with no trail boss
A million square miles wouldn’t be too small
Bring back the vast and endless plains
Let me cast my eyes upon the view
Let me hear whispered I love you
Words hardly heard within these city walls
A million square miles
Where every morning I can see
A new direction staring back at me
And hear the breeze in every cottonwood tree
A million square miles wouldn’t be too small
Where every morning I can see
A new direction staring back at me
And hear the breeze in every cottonwood tree
A million square miles wouldn’t be too small
No city lights
No bars
No fences
Just stars
That’s what a cowboy lives for
A million square miles wouldn’t be too small
Ten Thousand Trails (Larry W. Jones 12/31/2006) (song#4278)
Oh, I’m not the least bit concerned
Though I know for you I’ve yearned
But I won’t love you any more, I know
After I’ve ridden ten thousand trails or so
How I have missed you, missed you so
How I’ve reminisced of seeing you go
Oh, how did I lose you
Maybe ten thousand trails will let me know
But I’m not the least bit concerned
Though I know for you I’ve yearned
But I won’t love you any more, I know
After I’ve ridden ten thousand trails or so
How I have missed you, missed you so
How I’ve reminisced of seeing you go
Oh, how did I lose you
Maybe ten thousand trails will let me know
But I’m not the least bit concerned
Though I know for you I’ve yearned
But I won’t love you any more, I know
After I’ve ridden ten thousand trails or so
Cowboy Shirt And Bolo Tie (Larry W. Jones 12/31/2006) (song#4279)
When the man in the moon gets disturbed
He doesn’t get perturbed and cry
He just reverts to his cowboy shirt
And puts on his bolo tie
So, if you’re blue and sad, it’s not so bad
If you’re like the man in the moon tonight
All you do is revert to your cowboy shirt
And put on your bolo tie
Make every trail you travel a happy trail
Ride every trail with a smile
I guarantee you’ll like it
Even if you have to hike it
Be like the man in the moon and smile
Come on you cowboys and gals
Don’t let a little tear make you sigh
All you do is revert to your cowboy shirt
And put on your bolo tie
Make every trail you travel a happy trail
Ride every trail with a smile
I guarantee you’ll like it
Even if you have to hike it
Be like the man in the moon and smile
Come on you cowboys and gals
Don’t let a little tear make you sigh
All you do is revert to your cowboy shirt
And put on your bolo tie
Put on your cowboy shirt and bolo tie
Play Me Some Steel Guitar (Larry W. Jones 12/31/2006) (song#4280)
Play me some steel guitar and make it moan
And sing me a song of a love that’s flown
A love that’s now just a memory
Of someone who couldn’t be true to me
Play me some steel guitar and make it moan
While tears now flow from a heart of stone
Oh, steel guitar, play it slow
Tell me tonight, where did she go
Play me some steel guitar
And make the music whine
Play me some steel guitar
I can’t forget she was mine
Play me some steel guitar and make it moan
And sing me a song of a love that’s flown
Oh, steel guitar, play it slow
Tell me tonight, where did she go
Play me some steel guitar
And make the music whine
Play me some steel guitar
I can’t forget she was mine
Play me some steel guitar and make it moan
And sing me a song of a love that’s flown
Oh, steel guitar, play it slow
Tell me tonight, where did she go
Oh, and play one steel string before you go
The one that says I still love her so
Wild Cherry Moon In A Blue Prairie Sky (Larry W. Jones 01/01/2007) (song#4281)
There’s a wild cherry moon in a blue prairie sky
Shining over a valley in the west
It looks like a heavenly sign
I’ve never seen with these eyes of mine
A wild cherry moon in a blue prairie sky
Shining down on two star struck folks
And listening to words the heavens just spoke
That were compiled about marryin’ soon
Under a wild cherry moon
It’s a heavenly view, a prairie balloon floating by
A wild cherry moon in a blue prairie sky
There’s a wild cherry tree in a blue prairie lane
Growing in a valley in the west
And there’s a little cabin with a window pane
With a view that’s the best for seeing that old
Wild cherry moon in a blue prairie sky
Shining down on two star struck folks
And listening to words the heavens just spoke
That were compiled about marryin’ soon
Under a wild cherry moon
There’s a wild cherry moon in a blue prairie sky
A New Lasso (Larry W. Jones 01/01/2007) (song#4282)
Well, I need me a new lasso darlin’
Baby, to rope around your heart
Yeah, I need me a new lasso darlin’
Honey, to rope around your heart
When I get me that new lasso darlin’
You and I, gal, we’ll never ever part
Now, don’t you be cryin’ darlin’
Let me kiss the tears from your eyes
Oh no, don’t you be cryin’ darlin’
Let me kiss the tears from your eyes
That’s why I came back to El Paso darlin’
To lasso for you some blue Texas skies
Being away was drivin’ me crazy
As crazy as a loco weed
Being away was drivin’ me crazy
As crazy as a heart in need
Well, I’ve got me a new lasso darlin’
To rope your heart I hope is in love with me
Yeah, I’ve got me a new lasso darlin’
To rope your heart I hope is in love with me
Teardrop In The Heart Of A Desert Rose (Larry W. Jones 01/01/2007) (song#4283)
As I was riding along a lonely trail
I stopped awhile where the purple sage grows
What I saw there in bright detail
Was a teardrop in the heart of a desert rose
I knew it wasn’t a tear of happiness
For there were more where the petals grows
I saw there a life of loneliness
In a teardrop in the heart of a desert rose
A heavy heart must have followed their parting
That’s the sorrow that a blue tomorrow knows
A love that reached an end was now reflected in
A teardrop in the heart of a desert rose
I mounted my pony and rode along that lonely trail
Thinking that the flower will die, I suppose
And I wondered how a true love could die and fail
Like my teardrop in the heart of a desert rose
One Hundred Rodeo Clowns (Larry W. Jones 01/01/2007) (song#4284)
One hundred rodeo clowns I’ll hire for you
Just so I can see you smile
A red buffalo I’ll provide
A blue bronco I’ll ride
All will be in rodeo style
One million stars I’ll ask to shine for you
Like diamonds in a crown
And where the purple sage blooms
I’ll bring you a stage full of perfume
And I will never let you down
One hundred cowboy songs I will sing to you
All will be of my deams of you
They will be about rainbows ends
And the gold of lifelong friends
And of my love that will be ever true
One hundred years I will love you
But even then it will never die
One hundred years and love will still be new
As you and I look to the sky, we’ll view
There will be one million stars together
And two will be shining so brightly
We won’t have to ask about the weather
It will be clear that one shines for you
And the other clearly shines for me
One hundred rodeo clowns I’ll hire for you
One million stars I’ll ask to shine for you
One hundred cowboy songs I will sing to you
One hundred years I will love you
But even then it will never die
As you and I look to the sky, we’ll view
There will be one million stars together
And two will be shining so brightly
We won’t have to ask about the weather
It will be clear that one shines for you
And the other clearly shines for me
Heart Filled With Love (Larry W. Jones 01/01/2007) (song#4285)
Now, today I’m so happy
Yesterday I was blue
Now, no longer broken hearted
Since today I’ve found you
Life is now complete, dear
You made my life a song
Now that you’re here with me
Right where you belong
And it’s because of a heart filled with love
Because of love that was sent from up above
I was a man who spent his life
Searching this whole wide world
Until I found a heart filled with love
Now, today I’m so happy
Yesterday I was blue
Now, no longer broken hearted
Since today I’ve found you
And it’s because of a heart filled with love
Because of love that was sent from up above
I was a man who spent his life
Searching this whole wide world
Until I found a heart filled with love
Until I found your heart filled with love
Ever On My Mind (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4286)
In my heart forever, and ever on my mind
Whether riding herd or just trying to unwind
I find you’re in this cowboy’s heart forever
And ever on my mind
When I’m riding trails alone
Gray clouds will sometimes appear
But they’re always silver lined to remind
That you’re in this cowboy’s heart forever
And ever on my mind
I know that my little world is built around you
You’re part of all that I hold dear
My little world would fall apart if you weren’t near
Your love has brought this cowboy cheer
Everything I do today and will tomorrow too
Will be done with love to remind
That you’re in this cowboy’s heart forever
And ever on my mind
Cherokee Tresses Laced In Blue (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4287)
Way over in an Oklahoma mesa
Where antelope and yearlings play
There I used to ride my pony
Side by side with a Cherokee maid
She was fairer than the fairest
Maiden that Oklahoma ever knew
And adorned beneath her headress
Cherokee tresses laced in blue
Call of the trail meant we’d be parted
Before the Winter winds had blown
It seemed our love had barely started
And such love as I had never known
A Cherokee maiden was my treasure
Her love was kind and oh, so true
Only dreams now bring me pleasure
Of Cherokee tresses laced in blue
Love Love Love Mi Amor (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4288)
Love, love, love
Four little letters, nothing could be better
Means I’m always thinking of you
Love, love, love
Would you disavow this truthful heart somehow
That I am now bringing to you
No other word has ‘ere been heard
No other word has the world preferred
For every boy and girl and singing bird
Than this little word called love
Love, love, love, mi amor
When you’re not here, that’s when I fear you won’t return
Love, love, love, mi amor
This one word only will ease my lonely heart’s concern
No other word has meaning quite as such
My arms are yearning for your tender touch
My lips are burning for yours just as much
As this great big word called love
Love, love, love, mi amor
Harvest Moon Wedding (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4289)
It was a harvest moon wedding
That we saw when September played its tune
At that harvest moon wedding
Was when I fell in love with you
We could feel love that was spreading
So we made our plans right then
It would be a harvest moon wedding
When September played its tune again
I could hardly wait for September
But when it finally played its tune
I guess you forgot to remember
You took away the harvest moon
I went to another harvest moon wedding
Just to see what I had been deprived of
I saw you at your harvest moon wedding
And I saw I’d lost my harvest moon love
I could hardly wait for September
But when it finally played its tune
I guess you forgot to remember
You took away the harvest moon
I went to another harvest moon wedding
Just to see what I had been deprived of
I saw you at your harvest moon wedding
And I saw I’d lost my harvest moon love
Where I Hang My Hat (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4290)
Carefree and riding, that’s my way
Howdy Y’all, I’ll be here for a day
Adios, my boots are made to stray
I just gotta say farewell
Cause where I hang my hat is where I dwell
Sasparilla, whiskey or warm sun tea
Thank you m’am, suits me to a tee
Silver Dollar City, Abilene
Any place I think is swell
Cause where I hang my hat is where I dwell
Whippoorwill callin’ from a tree
Saddle up and go
And the trail disappearin’ shows
The direction where I oughta be
I saddle up too when the feelin’ draws me
Just don’t try to pause me
Cross a stream and over the hill
Chase a dream, I’ll find one still
I hear the calling of the wayward wind
Like an unending signal bell
I’m ridin’ where the trail goes
It follows where the wind blows
Cause where I hang my hat is where I dwell
Sometime You’ll Be Calling (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4291)
Sometime you’ll be feeling lonesome
Sometime you’ll feel your heart is blue
Sometime you’ll know what broken hearted means
Then you’ll know how my dreams are too
Sometime you’ll be calling for me
And you’ll be walking the floor like I do
Sometime you’ll stop stalling when you see
That these arms of mine are waiting for you
Sometime you’ll know what broken hearted means
Then you’ll know how my dreams are too
Sometime you’ll be calling for me
And you’ll be walking the floor like I do
Sometime you’ll stop stalling when you see
That these arms of mine are waiting for you
Lots Of Guys Could (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4292)
Lots of guys could fall for you
Lots of guys dream as I do
Lots of guys could fall for you
And darling
I know a cowboy who’s fallen too
Lots of guys search for dreams like me
Lots of guys seem to see what I see
Lots of guys end up falling like me
And darling
I know a cowboy who’s fallen too
Not every star is worth reaching for
Not every dream is made with care
But this cowboy’s found a treasure
That is oh, so very rare
Lots of guys would ask for your hand
I’m sure I’m not the only one
Lots of guys could buy a golden band
But this cowboy’s love has just begun
Lots of guys could fall for you
And darling
I know a cowboy who’s fallen too
April In Paris Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4293)
I had only read of the spell of Spring
It had never rung a bell for me
I had only read how bluebirds sing
None had ever sung in my tree
Until April in Paris Texas
Bluebonnets in bloom
Park benches under cottonwood trees
April in Paris Texas
I felt my heart go boom
There was so much room for love
I had only read of the spell of Spring
It had never rung a bell for me
I had only read how bluebirds sing
None had ever sung in my tree
Until April in Paris Texas
Bluebonnets in bloom
I felt my heart go boom
There was so much room for love
In Paris Texas
April In Alaska (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4294)
It was April in Alaska when I met you
We’d melt all the snow that Alaska ever knew
My heart was in the clouds
Crowds thought my mind was too
Oh yes, it was April in Alaska, and you
But dear, then I heard you say, which was so unkind
This love of ours is an Alaska state of mind
April in Alaska
Was then the snowstorm fell
It was just April in Alaska teasing me
(instrumental)
Oh, it’s a sad situation in which to be
Now, that’s April in Alaska, I will agree
The northern lights and wine
Told me that you’d be mine
But it was April in Alaska teasing me
It was April in Alaska when I met you
We’d melt all the snow that Alaska ever knew
My heart was in the clouds
Crowds thought my mind was too
Oh yes, it was April in Alaska, and you
A Dream That’s You (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4295)
I wonder, was it just a dream
I wonder, was it really you
It seemed like I was really there
Did my dream just fade into the air
Was it just a fantasy
Are you a love that was never meant to be
Or will my dream still come true
It seemed like I was full awake
But now I wonder all alone
I hope it was no mere mistake
For it seemed you were a love I’ve known
It seemed just like I felt your touch
Were you just a dream I’ve yearned for so much
Oh, please return to me
Let me know if you’re really true
Somewhere you must be reality
And not just a dream that’s you
Oh, please return to me
Let me know if you’re really true
Somewhere you must be reality
And not just a dream that’s you
Mister Are You From Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4296)
Well, howdy stranger, how are Y’all
Here’s something I wanna ask of someone so tall
Now, I doubt if you’re really surprised
Cause I think you must be recognized
It don’t take Sherlock Holmes to surmise
That you’re from the greatest state that ever can be
Your rugged face, well it says to me
You must be from along the Rio Grande
Cause that’s my land, my homeland, yes siree
Now, it was back a long time, it seems
Since I crossed that old Red River stream
And ever since, I’ve dreamed to return and find
Old corrals and old cowboy pals I left behind
My home, I said, was way down in San Antone
On a big ‘ol spread I called my own
Now, I ain’t one to be braggin’
But one of these days I’ll be flaggin’
That Texas Zephyr when I hear her whistle moan
Mister, are you from Texas
You don’t have to whisper if you’re from Texas
Where longhorns and cattle trails call to me
Now, I sure am glad to meet you
Here’s an iron clad friendly greet you
All my Texas pals would completely agree
Now, if you’re from Amarillo, El Paso or Abilene
Any ‘ol place below that old Red River stream
Then you’ve gotta be from Texas
Hip, Hip, Hooray for Texas
Texas is the place of my dreams
Mister Are You From Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/03/2007) (song#4296)
Am I tired of you, my darlin’
Did I mean those words I said
That meant you’d be mine forever
Ever since the day we wed
I tell you dear, if I lived life over
I’d never find a better wife
Am I tired of you, my darlin’
Just look into my loving eyes
Do I ever rue that Springtime
When it was you whom I then met
Have I forgotten your affection
How could my heart ‘ere forget
I tell you dear, if I lived life over
I’d never find a better wife
Am I tired of you, my darlin’
Just look into my loving eyes
Do I think the bloom has disappeared
From your cheeks that once were fair
Do I still think your love’s revered
After all these years of toil and care
I tell you dear, if I lived life over
I’d never find a better wife
Am I tired of you, my darlin’
Just look into my loving eyes
I tell you dear, if I lived life over
I’d never find a better wife
Am I tired of you, my darlin’
Just look into my loving eyes
Texas My Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/04/2007) (song#4298)
Texas, my Texas
Greatest state in the whole USA
Texas, my Texas
Where cowboys still rule the day
The Texas two step is as good as it gets
From Amarillo to Rio Grande’s castanets
Texas swings with sweet music too
Whenever I’m gone I’m feelin’ blue
It’s love at first sight and with no regrets
Texas, my Texas, I’ll be true to you
Texas, my Texas
Greatest state in the whole USA
Texas, my Texas
Where cowboys still rule the day
The Texas two step is as good as it gets
From Amarillo to Rio Grande’s castanets
Texas swings with sweet music too
Whenever I’m gone I’m feelin’ blue
It’s love at first sight and with no regrets
Texas, my Texas, I’ll be true to you
Texas, my Texas
Greatest state in the whole USA
Anna Marie (Larry W. Jones 01/04/2007) (song#4299)
When the robin arrives in Spring
And hops along in his glee
I wait just to listen to him sing
Sing a song for Anna Marie
Anna Marie, Anna Marie
Sweet girl with golden hair
Sunshine has come to see
And bluebirds by the pair
At your smile a rose will blush
And your voice is music fine
The rude world will noise hush
For such a lovely girl divine
Anna Marie, Anna Marie
Dove adorned of purest wing
Nere before has sung to me
Song of the golden Spring
Anna Marie, Anna Marie
You would but make me king
Oh, take this ring from me
And be my queen, Anna Marie
Conestoga Wagon Roll Along (Larry W. Jones 01/04/2007) (song#4300)
See those spoke wheels rollin’ strong
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Dust may choke my windpipe plenty
I ain’t got whisky to drink, not any
But I’ve got a cowgirl on my mind
Not a city girl and that’s just fine
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Headin’ for a new beginnin’, prairie home
A cowboy was born to roam and change
This ‘ol trail is long but I’ll keep rollin’ on
Until I reach that new Montana range
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, where old timers go
Lookin’ for a new corral and cabin door
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, where I’m gonna go
A spread from where I’ll roam no more
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Headin’ for a new beginnin’, prairie home
A cowboy was born to roam and change
This ‘ol trail is long but I’ll keep rollin’ on
Until I reach that new Montana range
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, where old timers go
Lookin’ for a new corral and cabin door
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, where I’m gonna go
A spread from where I’ll roam no more
Conestoga wagon, roll along
Lone Star On The Brazos (Larry W. Jones 01/08/2007) (song#4301)
I have always been a rover and rambler
O’er mountains, valleys and lone prairie
But when a lone star shines over the water
There’s a certain charm it has on me
A brushstroke on the canvas of my mem’ry
It paints an image that I hold dear
Of days that I recall so cheerfully
When a lone star on the water appears
Back home once more in Waco Texas
Where it seems I can clearly see
A candle light still gleaming bright
Among the big cottonwoods for me
New hay for the cattle has a fragrance
Reminding me of fields where I roamed
And I dream of a lone star on the Brazos
To guide me back to my Waco Texas home
Back home once more in Waco Texas
Where it seems I can clearly see
A candle light still gleaming bright
Among the big cottonwoods for me
New hay for the cattle has a fragrance
Reminding me of fields where I roamed
And I dream of a lone star on the Brazos
To guide me back to my Waco Texas home
Big Smoky Holler (Larry W. Jones 01/08/2007) (song#4302)
There’s a mountain place that I love so
It’s so little, not many people know
But I’m always dreaming, always scheming
For that little place that I love so
Back to Big Smoky Holler
Back to that little homestead of mine
Down in a little valley, in a way back alley
Where the honeysuckle smells so fine
There’s a little mountain girl who’s waiting
That I’ve been praying each night to see
Back in Big Smoky Holler
Back in that little valley in Tennessee
Ever since I left for parts unknown
My heart’s let me know it’s been too long
I’ve been so lonely, oh, so lonely
For Big Smoky Holler
And that little Tennessee mountain valley home
Back to Big Smoky Holler
Back to that little homestead of mine
Down in a little valley, in a way back alley
Where the honeysuckle smells so fine
There’s a little mountain girl who’s waiting
That I’ve been praying each night to see
Back in Big Smoky Holler
Back in that little valley in Tennessee
Mexicali Girl (Larry W. Jones 01/08/2007) (song#4303)
Mexicali Girl
Senorita so lovely
When I see you dancing there
Do you see how much I care
Mexicali Girl
You’re not just the here and now
You are all that a dream will allow
And I can see you
In now and future dreams come true
Mexicali Girl
Whatever it takes today
That’s everything that I will do
For I want you to hear me say
Te amo, Mexicali Girl, I love you
Mexicali Girl
Such delight you bring to me
A tangerine moon is on the sea
We must fall in love, don’t you agree
Mexicali Girl
Mexicali Girl
Whatever it takes today
That’s everything that I will do
For I want you to hear me say
Te amo, Mexicali Girl, I love you
Daniel Boone (Larry W. Jones 01/09/2007) (song#4304)
Back when the country was very new
There came a man folks knew as Boone
He wore mocassins and a coonskin hat
Folks just called hin Dan, Daniel Boone
A man of big adventure the legends say
Rebecca Bryan made him glance her way
But the Cumberland Gap was calling soon
To this famed explorer Dan, Daniel Boone
Trails that Daniel blazed are still there
Not many since have matched his fame
And those few that have are well aware
Of the Wilderness Road of Daniel’s name
In the legends of the Indians of the East
A name still lives, though long deceased
A man whose hat was from a wilderness coon
Folks just called him Dan, Daniel Boone
Freight Train From Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/09/2007) (song#4305)
When I was just a kid, I did what most kids did
Or at least those who lived along the tracks
When school was out, in Summer I found out
What the magic of freight trains was all about
Two cold rails of steel
A thousand hot freight train wheels
That sound sent my wild dreams down the track
And those dreams were bound to never come back
Freight train from Texas, freight train from Texas
Dreams never to return, turn, turn, never to return
When I heard that freight train whistle roar
It sounded like an outbound musical score
Mama couldn’t keep me from chasing that freight train lore
Every night when I went to sleep
My dreams were freight train deep
And before too long, I was singin’ that freight train song
Freight train from Texas, freight train from Texas
Dreams never to return, turn, turn, never to return
I hopped on an outward bound, to see what could be found
There were dreams I had to catch in that freight train sound
I’ve heard it said of trains, somehow they mesmerize brains
Every time a freight train rolled through
I found out I was one of those fools too
That world of mine would never be the same
Freight train from Texas, freight train from Texas
Dreams never to return, turn, turn, never to return
Dreams never to return, turn, turn, never to return
Freight train dreams never to return
Big Freightliner (Larry W. Jones 01/09/2007) (song#4306)
Big Freightliner, let me hear you whine
Big wheels, keep a-rollin’ down the line
Rollin’ through the night burnin’ up the road
Big Freightliner, get me there on time
Big wheels, I feel you rollin’ just fine
Gotta make it to Houston with a heavy load
That Choctaw truck stop was warm and nice
Glad I’m through that Oklahoma snow and ice
Headin’ south across the Red River Valley line
Soon I’ll be on that Dallas-Houston superslab
No more stops for diesel, no more credit tab
Check my pocket watch, I’m just a little behind
Big Freightliner, let me hear you whine
Big wheels, keep a-rollin’ down the line
Rollin’ through the night burnin’ up the road
Big Freightliner, get me there on time
Big wheels, I feel you rollin’ just fine
Gotta make it to Houston with a heavy load
Black smoke a-pourin’ from flaming stacks
Passin’ up a freight racing down the tracks
Too fast to count the white dotted lines
Gotta keep an eye out for black and white
Hard to see a trooper in the dead of night
Keep this rig rollin’ toward Houston signs
Big Freightliner, let me hear you whine
Big wheels, keep a-rollin’ down the line
Rollin’ through the night burnin’ up the road
Big Freightliner, get me there on time
Big wheels, I feel you rollin’ just fine
Gotta make it to Houston with a heavy load
On The Cattle Trail To Colorado (Larry W. Jones 01/09/2007) (song#4307)
Oh Colorado, cattle trail to Colorado
On the cattle trail to Colorado
There’s a ranch on the cattle trail to Colorado
There’s a cabin on the ranch and a girl in the cabin
On the cattle trail to Colorado
A cabin on the ranch and a girl in the cabin
On the cattle trail to Colorado
Whipee-ti-yi-yo (Whipee-ti-yi-yo)
Whipee-ti-yi-ay (Whipee-ti-yi-ay)
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, Whipee-ti-yi-yo
Whipee-ti-yi-ay, Whipee-ti-yi-ay
On the cattle trail to Colorado
There’s a jewelry store in Colorado
And a wedding ring in the jewelry store in Colorado
I’m gonna buy a wedding ring for the girl in the cabin
At the ranch on the cattle trail to Colorado
Gonna buy a wedding ring for the girl in the cabin
At the ranch on the cattle trail to Colorado
Whipee-ti-yi-yo (Whipee-ti-yi-yo)
Whipee-ti-yi-ay (Whipee-ti-yi-ay)
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, Whipee-ti-yi-yo
Whipee-ti-yi-ay, Whipee-ti-yi-ay
On the cattle trail to Colorado
When I return from the cattle drive to Colorado
I’ll make a stop at a ranch on the cattle trail to Colorado
Oh, I won’t be just hangin’ round, I’ll settle down
With the girl in the cabin at the ranch
On the cattle trail to Colorado
On the cattle trail to Colorado
Whipee-ti-yi-yo (Whipee-ti-yi-yo)
Whipee-ti-yi-ay (Whipee-ti-yi-ay)
Whipee-ti-yi-yo, Whipee-ti-yi-yo
Whipee-ti-yi-ay, Whipee-ti-yi-ay
On the cattle trail to Colorado
Lone Star Rancher (Larry W. Jones 01/09/2007) (song#4308)
When I was born, I was meant to be a common man
And I was raised a cowboy and to respect the land
I learned to ride a horse and train a rodeo prancer
When I was born, I was made a Lone Star Rancher
Well, my hands are worn and my hide’s been torn
But my heart is warm for a wife beauty has adorned
Nothing on earth could ever take the place of her
She’s the love of the life of this Lone Star Rancher
Rounding up the longhorn cattle at the start of day
Ridin’ on the John Deere tractor balin’ new cut hay
Sometimes I think back to the way things were
Things were simple then for a Lone Star Rancher
I know I’m gettin’ closer to the end of the trail
And as I look back, I’ve got good tales to tell
But the time has come to hang up my spurs
The veil is closing for a Lone Star Rancher
The veil is closing for a Lone Star Rancher

Blue Steel Guitar (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4309)
Now, listen to the song
My blue steel guitar is crying
It’s been too long since you’ve been gone
Words my blue steel guitar is sighing
Come, listen to what’s breaking
As my blue steel guitar is calling you
My broken heart is still aching
And on every note it’s breaking in two
Every song somehow sounds the same
Every note somehow calls your name
I wish you were in my arms once more
Can things ever be as they were before
I slide the steel and play my blue steel guitar
I let the music softly say that I still love her so
If there is a way for us to love again…
This blue steel will let her know
Come, listen to what’s breaking
As my blue steel guitar is calling you
My broken heart is still aching
And on every note it’s breaking in two
Every song somehow sounds the same
Every note somehow calls your name
I wish you were in my arms once more
Can things ever be as they were before
Blue Western Trail (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4310)
There’s a western trail that’s colored blue
Some say they’ve seen it on a map or two
It’s the trail where lonely cowboys ride
To shed a river of tears that they’ve cried
Blue western trail, I’m riding over you
It’s a trail strewn with heartaches and pain
Over lost loves that they’ll never see again
You know I love you, yes darlin’, I still do
And this old blue western trail knows it too
I can remember when I held you tight
But one day you just rode out of sight
And now I’m feelin’ so down and low
On this blue western trail ridin’ slow
It’s a trail strewn with heartaches and pain
Over lost loves that they’ll never see again
You know I love you, yes darlin’, I still do
And this old blue western trail knows it too
I can remember when I held you tight
But one day you just rode out of sight
And now I’m feelin’ so down and low
On this blue western trail ridin’ slow
Lost River (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4311)
Warm June night
Bright starlight
Lost river, where are you flowing to
The night is warm in June
Starlight is shining brightly too
How can they take happiness from you
Must you flow as in days gone by
Lost river, must your waters sigh
Why are you so melancholy, never jolly
Lost river, lost river
Do you hold dreams in store
Or have they gone down river evermore
You remind me of lips I’ve kissed, no more exists
Lost river, lost river
Once my hopes flowed with dreams
But now I know they’re lost somewhere downstream
When your lonesome flow comes into view
There’s something wrong, I always knew
Lost river, lost river
It’s because I feel just as lost as you
Glad Days Coming On (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4312)
Glad days now greeting me
I’ve got only glad days meeting me
Robins go bob, bob bobbing along
I feel only glad days coming on
There’s a gold moon in heaven so bright
There’s nothing old, just new love tonight
A brand new love for a new guy
I’m kissing the old me so long and goodbye
Sad days, none now linger on
I feel only glad days coming on
Glad days now greeting me
I’ve got only glad days meeting me
There’s a gold moon in heaven so bright
There’s nothing old, just new love tonight
A brand new love for brand a new guy
I’m kissing the old me so long and goodbye
Sad days, none now linger on
I feel only glad days coming on
I feel only glad days coming on
Montana Big Skies (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4313)
I’m tired and weary, cities make me dreary
I need to find a place that’s open and cheery
Gonna hop a train, maybe take a plane and fly
Out west to wide open Montana big skies
Headin’ west to Montana
Yeah, headin’ to Montana
Headin’ to Montana big skies
Gonna cinch up a bridle and saddle
Lynch up a herd of longhorn cattle
Headin’ to Montana big skies
Gonna work on a great big spread
Ride herd on at least a thousand head
Better listen up, cause that’s what I said
Gonna kiss this dirty city goodbye
Headin’ to Montana big skies
Gonna work hard for my money, start a new life
Look around for a honey who’ll make a good wife
Get away from this big city struggle and strife
Headin’ to Montana big skies
I’ll learn how to dance and how a guitar plays
I’ll sing to her and yodel each and every day
I’ll tell her how the starlight shines in her eyes
I know she’ll just love it under Montana skies
Headin’ west to Montana
Yeah, headin’ to Montana
Headin’ to Montana big skies
Gonna cinch up a bridle and saddle
Lynch up a herd of longhorn cattle
Headin’ to Montana big skies
Red Sky (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4314)
Stroll along the seashore
Salt breezes blowing
Waves keep bringing more
Just keep on rolling
Red sky just before night
A sailor’s delight
Means sunshine and good weather’s controlling
You’re my red sky just before night
My sweet delight
Your love makes me high
Every night and every day
Every night and every day
Warm Galveston morning
Ships’ bells ringing in the air
No red sky giving warning
Cause your warm love is there
You’re my red sky just before night
My sweet delight
Your love makes me high
Every night and every day
Every night and every day
You’re my red sky just before night
My sweet delight
Texas Cattle Drive (Larry W. Jones 01/10/2007) (song#4315)
Howdy and good mornin’ trail boss
Howdy and good mornin’ Clyde
I hear you’re lookin’ for a wrangler
On your Texas cattle drive
I ain’t braggin’, just here to claim
I’ve worked for many a hard trail boss
With this bullwhip I can brand my name
On the rump of any ‘ol hard headed hoss
Now, how good is your Cookie
How’s his sourdough bread and beans
You can tell I ain’t no rookie
By all these patches on my Levi jeans
Ridin’ point on the Chisholm trail
Just a dollar and a dime a day
Pretty girls are waitin’ to no avail
Cause I ain’t gonna blow my pay
Is that Cookie’s beans a-burnin’
Then turn that campfire down
If he ain’t cookin’, just learnin’
Then I won’t be hangin’ around
Ye-odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hoo
Ye-odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hay
Odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hoo-hoo-hoo
I ain’t braggin’, just here to claim
I’ve worked for many a hard trail boss
With this bullwhip I can brand my name
On the rump of any ‘ol hard headed hoss
Ridin’ point on the Chisholm trail
Just a dollar and a dime a day
Pretty girls are waitin’ to no avail
Cause I ain’t gonna blow my pay
Ye-odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hoo
Ye-odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hay
Odel-a-dee-odle-o-dee-hoo-hoo-hoo
Bluebirds And Hoot Owls (Larry W. Jones 01/11/2007) (song#4316)
Hoot owls hooting in the daylight
Bluebirds singing away in the night
That picture, you’ll say, isn’t right
But that’s how I feel, and the feeling’s real
Anytime that I’m with you
Hoot owls hooting in the daylight
Bluebirds singing away in the night
My heart is telling me it’s alright
Cause that’s how I feel, and the feeling’s real
Anytime that I’m with you
Who, who, who is the girl for me
Hoot owls are hooting, can’t you see
Blue, blue, blue days are gone from sight
Bluebirds singing away in the night
Anytime that I’m with you
My heart is telling me it’s alright
Cause that’s how I feel, and the feeling’s real
Bluebirds and hoot owls know how I feel
Who, who, who is the girl for me
Hoot owls are hooting, can’t you see
Blue, blue, blue days are gone from sight
Bluebirds singing away in the night
Anytime that I’m with you
Bluebirds and hoot owls know I’m in love with you
Cowboy Boots Of Texas Leather (Larry W. Jones 01/11/2007) (song#4317)
My own true love said she was goin’ away
She was goin’ away to Texas in the mornin’
She asked what she might send, that she may
Send something for to restrain my mourning
No, my own true love, I said, send me nothin’
For there’s one thing only for my heart ownin’
Just bring back my love where your respect is
From across the mountains and state of Texas
But my own true love said with words embolden
I could bring silver spurs or somethin’ golden
From along the Rio Grande village of El Paso
Or maybe a Mexican blanket from old Laredo
I showed my own true love the stars at night
That shined like diamonds on an ocean
One kiss from her I said was my one delight
For she was the true one of my devotion
But I’ll be gone for quite awhile, I’m supposin’
And she asked one more time, a question posin’
But I said there’s no reason for such warnin’
No need for something to restrain my mourning
I received a telegraph one day with elation
Sent from a far away stagecoach station
Her message of return was so unappealin’
She said it depends on how she’s feelin’
Oh, my own true love, now don’t you bother
For your heart must be now only for another
My love is gone and my own state a wreck is
For my own true love is on a stage to Texas
Oh, I was too blind and I could not see
Dark clouds in the sky and stormy weather
Now I walk alone, so darlin’ send to me
A pair of cowboy boots of Texas leather
Bluebells Are Texas Bells (Larry W. Jones 01/11/2007) (song#4318)
Bluebells are Texas bells
No bells spring like Texas bluebells spring
Ding dong, the sing song that Texas bluebells bring
Bluebells are joyful Texas bells
And what they bring in the Spring
Is ding dong, the sing song that my heart sings
And on the Texas hill country’s hill top
Robins will come to do their hop, hop, hop
Darlin’ those bluebells for us are takin’ wing
Bluebells are gettin’ ready to say
We’re growin’ for someone’s wedding day
Ding dong, nothing can now go wrong
Because before too long
Bluebells will be growin’ around our Texas home
– instrumental –
And on the Texas hill country’s hill top
Robins will come to do their hop, hop, hop
Darlin’ those bluebells for us are takin’ wing
Bluebells are gettin’ ready to say
We’re growin’ for someone’s wedding day
Ding dong, nothing can now go wrong
Because before too long
Bluebells will be growin’ around our Texas home
Life Of A Rover (Larry W. Jones 01/12/2007) (song#4319)
Bottle of rum, food of a bum
When’s this sailin’ gonna be over
Feel so alone, dreams are all gone
Such is the life of a rover
Well, I used to be a good cowboy
I used to be as good as they come
Then one day I heard, ship ahoy
And boarded a ship in Galveston
Been here a spell in this prison cell
Thinkin’ of what I’ve become
At the midnight bell I can still smell
The bouquet of a bottle of rum
Bottle of rum, food of a bum
When’s this sailin’ gonna be over
Feel so alone, dreams are all gone
Such is the life of a rover
Well, the trail boss said he would keep me fed
But he turned out to be trail herd scum
Now I’ve got a swingin’ hammock to lay my head
Holdin’ onto a half empty bottle of rum
Bottle of rum, food of a bum
When’s this sailin’ gonna be over
Feel so alone, dreams are all gone
Such is the life of a rover
Bottle of rum, food of a bum
When’s this sailin’ gonna be over
Feel so alone, dreams are all gone
Such is the life of a rover
Cowboys And Cowgirls (Larry W. Jones 01/12/2007) (song#4320)
We ride on every Texas trail
We ride when the moon is big and pale
And when stars shine down from the velvet blue
We ride along from year to year
For both of us, love has no fear
We’ll keep riding toward our dreams two by two
Cowboys and cowgirls like me and you
Ride beneath blue Texas skies
Their dreams are like our dreams
Seen from the love in their eyes
Lords and leaders and royal kings
Come and go like birds on wings
But cowboys and cowgirls like me and you
Keep riding toward our dreams two by two
We ride along from year to year
For both of us, love has no fear
Lords and leaders and royal kings
Come and go like birds on wings
But cowboys and cowgirls like me and you
Keep riding toward our dreams two by two
Fort Worth Heaven (Larry W. Jones 01/13/2007) (song#4321)
Now that you’re here, I’m no longer jealous
Like I was night after night
You were in someone else’s arms in Dallas
Now it’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
Darlin’, we’re no longer burnin’ bridges
The one we’re on will stand the test of time
Good mem’ries that faded now come easy
And it’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
You left him there, where he belongs, in Dallas
He only hurt you a hundred times
Now that you’re here it’s such a difference
And it’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
– instrumental –
You left him there, where he belongs, in Dallas
He only hurt you a hundred times
Now that you’re here it’s such a difference
And it’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
It’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
It’s Fort Worth heaven since you’re mine
Purple Sage Out On The Prairie (Larry W. ones 01/14/2007) (song#4322)
Darlin’ let’s saddle up and ride together
Beyond the row of cottonwood trees
Out on the prairie of purple sage
That’s swaying gently in the breeze
Darlin’ that’s what I want to do
Ride among the purple sage with you
The dew of Summer is in the mornin’
And the clouds are all light and airy
So saddle up, dear, and let’s go ridin’
Among the purple sage on the prairie
The Summer dew is new and falling yonder
Bluebirds’ music in their songs sound merry
Darlin’ let’s you and I saddle up and wander
Among the purple sage out on the prairie
I can’t remember days as clear and rare
Though many may have been dear and fair
But a day like this may never come again
Though many come and go, one thing I know
When dew of Summer is in the mornin’
And the clouds are all light and airy
That if you’re not along, I won’t go ridin’
Among the purple sage out on the prairie
Among the purple sage out on the prairie
El Rio De Las Rosas (Larry W. Jones 01/17/2007) (song#4323)
A pretty senorita waits by el rio de las rosas
A pretty senorita I met beside the Alamo
I kissed her there by el rio de las rosas
Then as I looked into her tear filled eyes
I had to whisper that I would miss her so
All the roses that grow in San Antone
Must have faded when we had to part
But one rose that I will forever own
Is a pretty senorita living in my heart
One day I will return to el rio de las rosas
That river by the Alamo will be our home
A pretty senorita waits by el rio de las rosas
A pretty senorita I met beside the Alamo
– instrumental –
All the roses that grow in San Antone
Must have faded when we had to part
But one rose that I will forever own
Is a pretty senorita living in my heart
One day I will return to el rio de las rosas
That river by the Alamo will be our home
Rider On The Wind (Larry W. Jones 01/18/2007) (song#4324)
They call me Rider on the Wind
When they see me ridin’ down the trail
They call me Rider on the Wind
When they see me ridin’ down the trail
Ain’t got no love, ain’t got no friend
Only got a lonely cowboy’s tale to tell
Well, there may come changes in the weather
But there won’t come any change in me
Yeah, there may come changes in the weather
But there won’t come any change in me
The open range is where I’m ridin’
Since that woman went and set me free
They call me Rider on the Wind
When they see me ridin’ down the trail
They call me Rider on the Wind
When they see me ridin’ down the trail
Ain’t got no love, ain’t got no friend
Only got a lonely cowboy’s tale to tell
Well, I’ve got a horse and saddle, babe
And now you’ll see me ridin’ on
Yeah, I’ve got a horse and saddle, babe
And now you’ll see me ridin’ on
I might ride all the way to California, babe
Far away from you and San Antone
Remembering Days Gone (Larry W. Jones 01/18/2007) (song#4325)
On Galveston Isle, in a warm Texas bay
Where gentle waves roll in from the sea
Seagulls by the flock come gaily to play
As I sit on the dock with my memories
Here I sit all alone at the end of the quay
Watching the sea birds fly gaily by
They land on the sand and play in the spray
I’d be like them, but I only can sigh
This thermos of coffee is mixed with sweet rum
It’s strong but the flavor’s just right
I listen as music from the old calliope comes
Remembering days gone, sunny and bright
I wish I were a boy, but an old man am I
Grey hair have I, can hide no disguise
Where is the joy that has passed me by
When I waltzed in a maiden’s bright eyes
Now all you rounders on Galveston Isle
Take note from an old Texas man
Each morning that comes, find you a smile
And feel all the love that you can
For I have a story I must disclose
Before the end of my days have come
I once waltzed with a Galveston rose
I once danced in the warm Texas sun
Cowboy Kisses (Larry W. Jones 01/18/2007) (song#4326)
Cowboy kisses, wrapped in love, dear
Wait for you from this heart of mine
Cowboy kisses, wrapped in love, dear
Are waiting for you just any old time
You know I mean it when I whisper
Little words of love right in your ear
Cowboy kisses, wrapped in love, dear
Are waiting for you just any old time
That little spread that I own, dear
Well, it’s not a castle but it will do
It’s no good when I’m alone, dear
I just need a cowgirl’s kisses too
Come fill my dreams with gladness
Remove the sadness that is mine
Cowboy kisses, wrapped in love, dear
Are waiting for you just any old time
Saddle Up And Ride Around (Larry W. Jones 01/18/2007) (song#4327)
I can’t get over how I’m feelin’ down
Guess I’ll saddle up and ride around
Maybe see what’s new in the old saloon
No use in crying underneath the moon
It’s been so long since I heard from you
You know I’ve been busy herding cattle too
But that’s no excuse for things you do
You know my love is true, meant for you
I saw a cowgirl I know once or twice
Then she said adios and rode away
I guess that’s the way I’ll pay the price
Just the way I did with you that day
It’s been so long since I heard from you
You know I’ve been busy herding cattle too
But that’s no excuse for things you do
You know my love is true, meant for you
There’s nobody else I want to see
Just a lonely cowboy I’ll always be
I’ll just ride around from place to place
Maybe disappear without a trace
It’s been so long since I heard from you
You know I’ve been busy herding cattle too
But that’s no excuse for things you do
You know my love is true, meant for you
Sound Of Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4328)
My sadness is profound, I feel so confined
Can’t get the sound of Texas off my mind
When a stage rolls by, I look and hang my head and sigh
Those wheels have rolled through Texas one more time
Now, the newspaper says on every page
There’s silver dew on Texas purple sage
I feel like getting back in the saddle
Heading back where there’s longhorn cattle
Listen to every lonely whippoorwill I find
Can’t get the sound of Texas off my mind
My sadness is profound, I feel so confined
Can’t get the sound of Texas off my mind
When a stage rolls by, I look and hang my head and sigh
Those wheels have rolled through Texas one more time
Now, the newspaper says on every page
There’s silver dew on Texas purple sage
I feel like getting back in the saddle
Heading back where there’s longhorn cattle
Listen to every lonely whippoorwill I find
Can’t get the sound of Texas off my mind
Cowboy Jones (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4329)
I’m Cowboy Jones and I’m skin and bones
My pony’s so thin you can hear him moan
I dodge all the girls when they throw stones
Cause I’m Cowboy Jones, clown of the rodeo
I teach all the rodeo horses how to dance
Of course the cowgirls gave me no chance
I teach all the rodeo horses how to dance
Cause I’m Cowboy Jones, clown of the rodeo
I’m Cowboy Jones and I’m skin and bones
My pony’s so thin you can hear him moan
When the crowds see me, they just groan
Cause I’m Cowboy Jones, clown of the rodeo
Now, I joined the rodeo when twenty one
Somebody told me it would be only fun
But when a bull comes just watch me run
Cause I’m Cowboy Jones, clown of the rodeo
My Mama, she cried when I left home
I didn’t even pack a toothbrush or comb
My Mama, she tried to tell me not to roam
She said I’d only be a clown in the rodeo
The first time I saw a cowboy take a spill
The eight second buzzer, it made me ill
Now, of this old rodeo life I’ve had my fill
I’m not cut out to be clown of the rodeo
The rodeo cowboys, I heard them shout
For Cowboy Jones there ain’t no doubt
Him and his horse we’re gonna kick out
He ain’t cut out for clown of the rodeo
Wagon Train Magic (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4330)
Stars shining in the western sky so bright
There’s a mys’try in their guiding light
But there’s no mys’try needed to explain
Why their shining on our wagon train
Sleep in my arms as the wagons roll
Across the prairie as the moon extols
The light of love that shines so plain
Down here tonight on our wagon train
The wagon trail is so exciting
The moon is pale and so inviting
While here sleeping in my arms
Is the magic of all your charms
Riding here beside me ‘neath the blue
A dream come true that only can be you
This magic night may never come again
With moon and stars and a wagon train
My Reckless Sweetheart (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4331)
Well, you said your love was for me alone
And you promised to always be my own
But when someone new came, you forgot
That just a little promise can mean a lot
My reckless sweetheart, so recklessly
You forgot that promise you made to me
You’re gone and now you’ve made me blue
My reckless sweetheart, now where are you
The last words you said had a certain ring
And for certain, heartaches they now bring
Sweetheart, I kept my word and it never occurred
My reckless sweetheart, another you preferred
My reckless sweetheart, so recklessly
You forgot that promise you made to me
You’re gone and now you’ve made me blue
My reckless sweetheart, now where are you
When tomorrow comes in bygone years
Then sorrows will come along with tears
You’ll cry and think back on that evil day
When you said goodbye and you went away
My reckless sweetheart, so recklessly
You forgot that promise you made to me
You’re gone and now you’ve made me blue
My reckless sweetheart, now where are you
Road Kill Armadillo (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4332)
Now, armadillo meat is good ‘n sweet
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
I always find armadillo a Texas treat
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Barbecue that armadillo!
Barbecue that armadillo!
Barbecue that armadillo!
Oh, barbecue that armadillo good ‘n done
A truck sped by with a heavy load
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
A big armadillo dead on the road
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
I ran out ‘n grabbed him up
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Armadillo make real good sup
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
I took the armadillo ‘n skinned ‘im off
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Soaked ‘im overnight ‘n marinate trough
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Now, the way I cook armadillo is of renown
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Just put ‘im on the pit til good ‘n brown
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Then I put sweet potatoes in the pan
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Best road kill in the whole Texas land
Barbecue ‘im good ‘n done
Barbecue that armadillo!
Barbecue that armadillo!
Barbecue that armadillo!
Oh, barbecue that armadillo good ‘n done
Open Up The Honky Tonks (Larry W. Jones 01/19/2007) (song#4333)
Darlin’ wants to go to a honky tonk, I know
Go dancin’ where a steel guitar is playin’ low
In this old house she’s tired of hanging ’round
Darlin’ wants to go to a honky tonk outside of town
So, open up the honky tonks and fill the floors
She wants to go two stepping with me once more
Hey, open up the honky tonks ’till two or three
The one I love wants to go dancing again with me
Now, I know it’s impossible to turn back the time
So, I’ll make believe that she’s still twenty nine
It won’t hurt to get in the truck and drive around
Darlin’ wants to go to a honky tonk outside of town
– instrumental –
So, open up the honky tonks and fill the floors
She wants to go two stepping with me once more
Hey, open up the honky tonks ’till two or three
The one I love wants to go dancing again with me
Fort Worth Heaven One More Time (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4334)
Now that I’m back, darlin’ don’t be jealous
Like you were night after night
I was in someone else’s arms in Dallas
But now it’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
Darlin’, we’re no longer burnin’ bridges
The one we’re on will stand the test of time
Good mem’ries that faded now come easy
And it’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
I left him there, where he belongs, in Dallas
He only hurt me a hundred times
Now that I’m back, it’s such a difference
And it’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
– instrumental –
I left him there, where he belongs, in Dallas
He only hurt me a hundred times
Now that I’m back, it’s such a difference
And it’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
It’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
It’s Fort Worth heaven one more time
When I’m In Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4335)
When I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas
My boots are walkin’ on cloud number seven
Cloud number seven is mighty close to heaven
When I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas
I can always tell, I can always tell, I can always tell
It’s not too hard for me to detect it
It’s so easy, I’ve come to expect it
I can always tell, I can always tell, I can always tell
When I’m in some other state that’s new
I can’t get past cloud number one or two
And there’s not one that makes me feel like singing
Now, I’ve been from shore to shore
But there ain’t one that I’d adore
And what’s more
No clouds three or four, or pretty bells a-ringing
I quit looking for clouds five and six
Cause I know there’s only one state for my kicks
And Texas is the place that I love so
When I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas
My boots are walkin’ on cloud number seven
Cloud number seven is mighty close to heaven
When I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas, when I’m in Texas
In Texas, in Texas
I’m in heaven, on cloud number seven, when I’m in Texas
Mike Daily Steel Guitar (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4336)
Now, Mike Daily plays the steel guitar
Mike plays it like a Grand Ole Opry star
Sittin’ on the stage in his cowboy boots
Playin’ steel on songs about rodeo chutes
Mike Daily’s got a lot of good company
His old dog sounds real good in harmony
Drum sticks tied to his waggin’ tail
Listen to him howl, listen to him wail
Now, Susie Q, she got a dollar and a dime
From the front row you can hear her chime
Come on Mike Daily, play us something new
Why, your old dog’s even singin’ the blues
But Mike Daily don’t move, just sits there
Mike’s got an ace in the hole beyond compare
Sittin’ on the stage in his cowboy boots
Playin’ steel on songs about rodeo chutes
Your Empty Heart (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4337)
The time has come, my dear, for us to talk things out
I need to hear from you just what our love is all about
I see an empty frame where there should be a work of art
When will you open up and let me fill your empty heart
Is there someone in your past who still has a hold on you
Or is it that you’ve cast my love aside for someone new
I want to fill our life with love before the dream departs
When will you open up and let me fill your empty heart
I’ve seen the way you sit and reminisce of days gone by
But dear, those days are gone on which you still rely
This emptiness just steers our ship right off the chart
When will you open up and let me fill your empty heart
One fine day the time will come when you will truly see
That the love I’ve given you is filled with sincerity
Let’s talk it out instead of closing with the saddest part
When will you open up and let me fill your empty heart
If I Had A Buggy (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4338)
If I had a buggy, I’d buggy down to Texas
Buggy down to Texas, If I had a buggy I would
If I had a buggy I would buggy on down
To Texas, where a man can still walk a country mile
If I had a pony, I’d ride down to Texas
Ride down to Texas, If I had a pony I would
If I had a pony I would ride on down
To Texas, where a man can still ride a country mile
If I had new boots, I’d walk down to Texas
Walk down to Texas, If I had new boots I would
If I had new boots I would walk on down
To Texas, where a man can still walk a country mile
If I had a song, I’d sing it down in Texas
Sing it down in Texas, If I had a song I would
If I had a song I would sing it way down
In Texas, where a man can still sing in Texas style
Back To Texas I Must Go (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4339)
From way up in cold Alaska
Back to the Gulf of Mexico
No matter where it is I roam
It’s back to Texas I must go
Now, I was born and raised in Texas
But one day I told my kin so long
Oh, how I miss that warm Gulf water
And those heart to heart Texas songs
From way up in cold Alaska
Back to the Gulf of Mexico
No matter where it is I roam
It’s back to Texas I must go
Got a letter from dear Mama in Houston
She said, son you’ve been gone too long
Bluebonnets are covered with dew, son
We all wonder when you’re coming home
I’ve been to Kamchatka and north of Nome
Fished in the Bering Sea in ice and rain
I’ve seen the beauty of Mt McKinley’s dome
But now I’m heading south to Texas again
From way up in cold Alaska
Back to the Gulf of Mexico
No matter where it is I roam
It’s back to Texas I must go
Back to Texas I must go
Back to Texas I must go
Legend Of Alligator Boots Jones (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4340)
The wind only knows from where he came
Somewhere that all Texas legends begin
Through the ages the legend’s the same
Like the scent of a flask of whisky tin
That Texas bounty man’s ways are uncouth
Some say he must have come from another time
I guess nobody will ever know the truth
But to outlaws he’s real when talkin’ crime
Alligator Boots Jones is that Texan’s name
Some say that he came by way of San Antone
You don’t mess with A.B.J., just the same
If you’re an outlaw who’s just done wrong
Now, young Sam Bass was up to no good
Robbed a train in Denton and killed a man
A posse found Sam by Round Rock wood
A hole in his back by a myst’ry gun hand
The only thing that ranger George Herold found
Was an A.B.J. boot brand on dead Sam’s skin
They never found the mys’try gun or man around
Just a scent of whisky driftin’ on the wind
Alligator Boots Jones
A mys’try man, Texas legends bequeath
He ain’t really made of skin and bones
But he’ll catch a robber or a horse thief
No matter where in Texas an outlaw roams
From ‘ol Panhandle Dalhart to Louisiana
From ‘ol Rio Grande El Paso to Texarkana
Outlaws’ boots a-shakin’ without a prayer
If Alligator Boots Jones comes ridin’ there
Outlaws, don’t think about spendin’ that bread
And don’t go to sleep when you’re goin’ to bed
Cause you might just be a-wakin’ up quite dead
And wearin’ an A.B.J. brand up side your head
Alligator Boots Jones
A mys’try man Texas legends bequeath
He ain’t really made of skin and bones
But he’ll catch a robber or a horse thief
No matter where in Texas an outlaw roams
From ‘ol Panhandle Dalhart to Louisiana
From ‘ol Rio Grande El Paso to Texarkana
Outlaws’ boots a-shakin’ without a prayer
If Alligator Boots Jones comes ridin’ there
Sunlight On The Gulf Of Mexico (Larry W. Jones 01/20/2007) (song#4341)
Sunlight on the Gulf of Mexico
Brings tender thoughts to me
Of when I saw blue eyes aglow
In dreams never meant to be
When I’m over in El Paso fair
With the scent of perfumed air
A dream awakens in my mind
Heart a-breakin’ one more time
That goodbye you said to me
Dear, have you already forgot
You don’t know how I grieve
And the tears that you brought
Please come back so I can see
If we can still make love grow
Please come back so I can see
Sunlight on the Gulf of Mexico
That goodbye you said to me
Dear, have you already forgot
You don’t know how I grieve
And the tears that you brought
Please come back so I can see
If we can still make love grow
Please come back so I can see
Sunlight on the Gulf of Mexico
Down To Matagorda Bay (Larry W. Jones 01/21/2007) (song#4342)
Come ride with me, let’s ride, let’s ride away
If you like a whim, let’s take a swim
Down in Matagorda Bay
Come ride with me, we’ll ride, we’ll ride away
Come ride with me, let’s ride two by two
In Texas sand, there’s a two steppin’ band
Playin’ fiddles and guitars for you
Come ride with me, we’ll see Corpus Christi too
Once we arrive where the Texas ponies are tied
We’ll stride down by the water side
And when that moon gets near, I’ll hold you, dear
We’ll hear the waves all cheer with the incoming tide
It’s a lovely day for us to ride away
We’ll follow the sparrow straight as an arrow
Down to Matagorda Bay
Come ride with me, let’s ride, let’s ride away
Down to Matagorda Bay
Down to Matagorda Bay
Down to Matagorda Bay
Bury Me With My Boots And Spurs (Larry W. Jones 01/21/2007) (song#4343)
Darlin’, hold me closely to your breast
Just as you did in sunny days gone by
Let me slumber now and go on to my rest
Darlin’, please don’t let me see you cry
My life, sweetheart, is swiftly falling
And there’s one request I must confer
When I have ended all life’s calling
Please bury me with my boots and spurs
Darlin’, from the first I have loved you
And you know that we’ve never been apart
A blush of rose still warms your cheek too
As lovely as it was right from the start
The west Texas wind is blowing colder
Please grant my request that I prefer
Just let my head rest on your shoulder
And bury me with my boots and spurs
The cowboy crossed the darkened valley
Where the breath and life of all men go
His ride through life found its finale
Where he now sleeps beneath the rose
By the rocky trail the cowboy’s resting
Decorated by a garland that was hers
A cowgirl’s love was his daily blessing
She buried him with his boots and spurs
Golden Ocean (Larry W. Jones 01/21/2007) (song#4344)
I love to see the shadows fall, watch the moon rise above
For they bring back memories of days back then
When the one I’m thinking of, first came and I found love
As we watched the moonlit waves come rolling in
Golden ocean, golden ocean, now I must ask you please
Where have your waves of golden hue
Taken her out on the blue
Along with my broken heart upon your seas
– instrumental –
Now I stroll your shores alone, and I sing a woeful song
While I search the stars up in the Milky Way
It was by your golden waves where I shared the kiss she gave
Now she’s out across you golden waves to stay
Golden ocean, golden ocean, now I must ask you please
Where have your waves of golden hue
Taken her out on the blue
Along with my broken heart upon your seas
Adios To The Valley Of The Brazos (Larry W. Jones 01/24/2007) (song#4345)
Adios to the valley of the Brazos
My cattle branding days are done
Adios to memories I’ll hold close
Say adios to compadres one by one
Adios to the valley of the Brazos
By that river I worked and played
Send my letters farther down the trail
Adios to you Brazos Valley maids
I’ll get my pony and pack my saddlebags
I’ll be ridin’ out before too long
If I herd more cattle, I ain’t ridin’ drag
I’m gonna ride the trail with a song
Adios to the valley of the Brazos
By that river I worked and played
Send my letters farther down the trail
Adios to you Brazos Valley maids
Shadows of the Cottonwood (Larry W. Jones 01/24/2007) (song#4346)
Yearning, yearning, dreams come burning
Old memories fill the air
Telling, telling, moonlight’s compelling
Memories I hold with care
Out in west Texas, skies are blue
And there’s a place that I once knew
It whispers from the shadows of the cottonwood
There’s an old ranch house with cattle guard
And a water well in the yard
Covered by the shadows of the cottonwood
In the old ranch house a lantern burns
By the fireside I know a heart still yearns
To that place I’ll return forevermore
To an angel’s face inside that door
Waiting in the shadows of the cottonwood
There’s an old ranch house with cattle guard
And a water well in the yard
Covered by the shadows of the cottonwood
In the old ranch house a lantern burns
By the fireside I know a heart still yearns
To that place I’ll return forevermore
To an angel’s face inside that door
Waiting in the shadows of the cottonwood
Moonlight On The Range (Larry W. Jones 01/24/2007) (song#4347)
In the velvet sky you can see him ride
And every night he seems to change
He covers the trail with beams so pale
When night comes to meet the range
Moonlight on the range, cattle mooing low
Moonlight on the range, where purple sagebrush grows
Peer into the night, moon is shining bright
Ridin’ over trails that never change
Ridin’ along, humming a song
Moonlight on the range
At the setting sun, twilight will come
But I’ll throw my cares to the wind
Mr moonlight reigns here on the range
Just as it has always been
Moonlight on the range, cattle mooing low
Moonlight on the range, where purple sagebrush grows
Peer into the night, moon is shining bright
Ridin’ over trails that never change
Ridin’ along, humming a song
Moonlight on the range
My Little Corner Of Texas Sky (Larry W. Jones 01/24/2007) (song#4348)
Now, I guess there’s a reason why all things have a season
I know there’s a line for every song that must rhyme
There’s a window sill for every bluebird
And a cattle trail is still for moving a herd
But I haven’t found just where to go
Like a river knows just where to flow
So, I’m gonna follow the eagle as it flies
To find my little corner of Texas sky
Now, every cowboy has a dream, every man his scheme
And there’s one place it seems that I must go
Dark clouds have a silver lining, a whippoorwill his pining
And there’s a place for me in Texas, that I know
Now, I don’t need a great big spread
But instead, I’ll just settle for something small
I don’t have to have it all
I don’t know just where I’ll be going
But you might hear me after I’m gone
Cause out where the sage is growing
I’ll be singin’ a lonesome cowboy song
In my little corner of Texas sky
Sugarpops And Teardrops (Larry W. Jones 01/25/2007) (song#4349)
This morning I’m having sugarpops and teardrops
You pulled out the stops and ran out of my dream
So, I’m having sugarpops and teardrops
And I just discovered that I’ve run out of cream
You gave me no warning and left me in mourning
So, this morning I’m having sugarpops and teardrops
The whole bowl tastes like salty crops to me
And I can’t stop from crying endlessly
You pulled out the stops and ran out of my dream
And I just discovered that I’ve run out of cream
Now, sugarpops are sweet but teardrops aren’t a treat
And the way you’re treating me has got to stop
Everything tastes like salt and everything’s your fault
This morning I’m having sugarpops and teardrops over you
Sugarpops and teardrops over you
Sugarpops and teardrops over you
Sugarpops and teardrops over you
April Called Your Name (Larry W. Jones 01/25/2007) (song#4350)
I opened my sleepy eyes one April morning
Every season in Spring is the same
For some reason I heard, without warning
The month of April called your name
And the world that’s mine turned into Spring
Bluebirds came to sing their happy song
But when I looked out, I didn’t see a thing
For there was no doubt that you were gone
Years come and go and things renew
Every season in Spring is the same
But every season now finds me blue
Though every April calls your name
And the world that’s mine turned into Spring
But when I looked out, I didn’t see a thing
Years come and go and things renew
Every season in Spring is the same
But every season now finds me blue
Though every April calls your name
If we could go back to Springtime, darling
And turn back the hands of time with care
I’d give you love and take the blame, darling
And if April called your name, I’d be there
Scatter My Ashes All Over Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/25/2007) (song#4351)
Pecan trees and live oaks grow in Texas
And I’ve always viewed them as a friend
Mockingbirds sing their songs in Texas
Sitting in the trees blowing in the wind
When my days are done in Texas
And I reach my own eternal end
Scatter my ashes all over Texas
Texas has been my best friend
So, just scatter my ashes all over Texas
Where pecans, live oaks and birds belong
I’ll help the bluebonnets bloom in Texas
And sing along with the mocking bird song
When my days are done in Texas
And I reach my own eternal end
Scatter my ashes all over Texas
Texas has been my best friend
So, just scatter my ashes all over Texas
Where pecans, live oaks and birds belong
I’ll help the bluebonnets bloom in Texas
And sing along with the mocking bird song
Riding Down The Trail On A Lazy Afternoon (Larry W. Jones 01/25/2007) (song#4352)
Riding down the trail
On a lazy afternoon
With the Texas sun above
And the cowgirl that I love
Moonlight will be here soon
The whippoorwill is playing
His old sentimental tune
Riding down the trail
On a lazy afternoon
Soft breezes blow around
And whisper a song of love
A west Texas sweet refrain
The birds all settle down
Nesting by the moon above
On the trail of lovers’ lane
Just us two riding together
Talking of our honeymoon
Riding down the trail
On a lazy afternoon
– instrumental –
Soft breezes blow around
And whisper a song of love
A west Texas sweet refrain
The birds all settle down
Nesting by the moon above
On the trail of lovers’ lane
Just us two riding together
Talking of our honeymoon
Riding down the trail
On a lazy afternoon
Let Me Waltz You To A Texas Love (Larry W. Jones 01/25/2007) (song#4353)
Let me waltz you to your beauty with a steel guitar sound
Let me waltz you to the music while the moon is shining down
Your love has lifted me and my heart flies like a dove
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Let me look upon your beauty til the years themselves are gone
Let me feel you in my arms until the night turns into dawn
Let me know that your love fits like a hand in a glove
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Let me waltz you to a wedding hall, give to me your all in all
Let me kiss you tenderly, more than any kiss I can recall
We’re both dancing into love and the music’s from above
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Let me waltz you to the future when our children will be born
Let me waltz you to a love that’s pure and never bring you harm
This newborn love will last forever though every thread be worn
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Let me waltz you to your beauty with a steel guitar sound
Let me waltz you to the music while the moon is shining down
You love has lifted me and my heart flies like a dove
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Let me waltz you to a Texas love
Daybreak Has Broken (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4354)
Daybreak has broken
For the sake of a brand new day
Daybreak has spoken
Telling the mist on the meadow to go away
Daybreak has broken
For I see the sun is rising anew
Flowers have awoken
Casting off their cover of nighttime dew
Daybreak has broken
Awaking the world from dreams
How lovely the token
Revealing the beauty of Godly scenes
Daybreak has broken
To delightful songs of birds colored blue
True love has spoken
For daybreak has broken in dreams of you
Daybreak has broken
For I see the sun is rising anew
Flowers have awoken
Casting off their cover of nighttime dew
Daybreak has broken
To delightful songs of birds colored blue
True love has spoken
For daybreak has broken in dreams of you
Train To El Paso (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4355)
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Got my ticket right here in my hand
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Gonna find me some west Texas sand
I left that girl back in Dallas
You know, she treated this poor cowboy bad
Never seen a girl so callous
Now read this El Paso paper employment ad
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Where it don’t hardly ever rain, I am told
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Gonna find myself a true love I can hold
Thank goodness Texas is as wide as it is
A cowboy can find a place to hide that is his
I’ve died inside cause love’s gone amiss
I’m boarding the train to El Paso without a kiss
– instrumental –
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Got my ticket right here in my hand
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Gonna find me some west Texas sand
I’m boarding the train to El Paso
Gonna find me some west Texas sand
Where Dew On Purple Sage Falls (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4356)
Where dew on purple sage falls
Beside the adobe garden walls
Where the stars shine bright in Arizona skies
I wonder if you still think of me
Darling, am I still in your memory
And do you still whisper my name with a sigh
In the purple Arizona night
I dream I’m gonna hold you tight
Though you’re not in my arms
I still see all your charms
Beside the adobe garden walls
And as long as dreams are free
Darling, you will be with me
Where dew on purple sage falls
– instrumental –
In the purple Arizona night
I dream I’m gonna hold you tight
Though you’re not in my arms
I still see all your charms
Beside the adobe garden walls
And as long as dreams are free
Darling, you will be with me
Where dew on purple sage falls
Brazos Valley Woman (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4357)
Brazos Valley woman
Darlin’, I’m ridin’ home to you
Brazos Valley woman
You know I’ve been waiting for so long
Hating every day that I’ve been gone
Spent three months roving the range
With not a chance of seeing you
But here’s one thing I want you to know
My cattle droving days will change
There’s no romance in missing you
Ridin’ back to where the Brazos flows
I’ve been out roving on the range
This cowboy life has kept me going
But darlin’ that’s about to change
I need to see that Brazos flowing
You’re the only Brazos Valley girl
That this cowboy could ever love
– instrumental –
Brazos Valley woman
Darlin’, I’m ridin’ home to you
Brazos Valley woman
You know I’ve been waiting for so long
Hating every day that I’ve been gone
I’ve been out roving on the range
This cowboy life has kept me going
But darlin’ that’s about to change
I need to see that Brazos flowing
You’re the only Brazos Valley girl
That this cowboy could ever love
Luckenbach Jail (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4358)
They’ve locked me up in Luckenbach jail
Nobody’s come to knock or throw my bail
The judge told me at the courthouse
Boy, you’re never gonna go free, no sir
Cause you stole a diamond
A big, beautiful diamond to give to her
So, here I am in Luckenbach, Texas
They’ve locked me up in Luckenbach jail
Now, I know my darlin’ will dance for me
And my darlin’, I know, will sing for me
But that’s all that she can do, yes sir
Cause I stole a diamond
A big, beautiful diamond to give to her
Cause I stole a diamond
A big, beautiful diamond to give to her
Now, I’ll never be able to see that girl
This old Luckenbach jail is now my world
Cause the book at me was hurled
The judge said that I would need a lawyer
To come and listen to my sad, sad tale
He said, don’t think of being Tom Sawyer
Cause you can’t run from Luckenbach jail
Train To Amarillo (Larry W. Jones 01/26/2007) (song#4359)
Is this the train to Amarillo, I heard somebody say
And it was plain I’d heard that voice before
I was so surprised when she looked into my eyes
But before I could reply, she turned and stepped away
I was standing in the rain as I called out her name
Then she turned back to me and I heard her cries
The dining car waiter poured our past
Up to the brim of the tall wine glass
And we talked over times we both held dear
The Great Plains train whistle blew
As through the Texas night we flew
Knowing that Amarillo would soon be near
Amarillo summer nights when we were young
Were now igniting old memories one by one
We were two older dreamers, it was plain
On a midnight screamer, the Amarillo train
We were two older dreamers, it was plain
On a midnight screamer, the Amarillo train
When we got to the station, I kissed her goodbye
She had to go on to Santa Fe
How in all creation did I lose her to another guy
I still wonder to this very day
– instrumental –
The dining car waiter poured our past
Up to the brim of the tall wine glass
And we talked over times we both held dear
The Great Plains train whistle blew
As through the Texas night we flew
Knowing that Amarillo would soon be near
Amarillo summer nights when we were young
Were now igniting old memories one by one
We were two older dreamers, it was plain
On a midnight screamer, the Amarillo train
We were two older dreamers, it was plain
On a midnight screamer, the Amarillo train
Wrong Turn Sign (Larry W. Jones 01/27/2007) (song#4360)
Wrong turn, the trail is dark ahead, wrong turn
I never noticed what that sign said
Wrong turn, I thought any direction was fine
I rode the section that followed the wrong turn sign
I saddled up with too heavy a load
More than once I’ve been throwed
I broke every righteous cowboy code I could find
This trail has led to my demise
Now, the only thing that I’d advise
Is to be sure you never follow that wrong turn sign
Wrong turn, the trail is dark ahead, wrong turn
I never noticed what that sign said
Wrong turn, I thought any direction was fine
I rode the section that followed the wrong turn sign
I rode through life like a ship of sail
That had to wallow in the wind and gale
Now it’s too late to even look behind
I find the longer I ride, the slower I go
My pony’s gonna die with this heavy load
I just don’t know why I followed that wrong turn sign
Wrong turn, the trail is dark ahead, wrong turn
I never noticed what that sign said
Wrong turn, I thought any direction was fine
I rode the section that followed the wrong turn sign
One of these days I’m gonna drop dead
Should have paid attention to what the sign said
Not to mention that I never took the time
When my pony dies, just bury me too
All you other guys, don’t be a fool
Don’t be like me and follow that wrong turn sign
Wrong turn, the trail is dark ahead, wrong turn
I never noticed what that sign said
Wrong turn, I thought any direction was fine
I rode the section that followed the wrong turn sign
Virginia City (Larry W. Jones 01/27/2007) (song#4361)
Why did I roam, leave my Texas home
The trail had no reward, oh, why did I roam
Years ago I arrived in Virginia City
I rode away from Texas and those hills of home
I got a letter from my Daddy
Said son, if you’re thinkin’ of comin’ home, don’t bother
Your Mother died last year and she’s long gone
Why did I roam, leave my Texas home
The trail had no reward, oh, why did I roam
Folks back in Texas write to wish me well
They think I’m a big shot, I can tell
But every day I crawl the mine
And there’s no way I’ll ever find
Enough gold to get me outta this Virginia City hell
Why did I roam, leave my Texas home
The trail had no reward, oh, why did I roam
You know, I rode that trail from Texas to Virginia City
Thinking I’d find gold but I’m down to my last dime
I think it’s time to swallow my pride
Get on my pony and apologize
To all the folks I left back in Texas in my prime
Why did I roam, leave my Texas home
The trail had no reward, oh, why did I roam
Virginia City, you’ve done me wrong too long
Texas Chicken (Larry W. Jones 01/27/2007) (song#4362)
Texas Chicken isn’t for the faint of heart.
But for vessels headed in opposite directions
on the Houston Ship Channel, it’s the only way
to pass. The trick involves water pressure.
The scary part is that ships have to head right
at each other for it to work. Setting a course
for a head-on collision would unnerve most mariners,
but it’s a beloved tactic on the 53-mile-long
Houston Ship Channel, the only place in the world
where Texas Chicken is used. The water displaced
by the bows of the ships moves them away
from each other and toward the sides of the
40-foot-deep channel, then the suction of the
displaced water flowing in behind the ships
naturally pulls them back to the center.
Pilots say the people most frightened by
Texas Chicken are the captains of deep sea ships
docking at the Port of Houston for the first time.
Hey, let’s play Texas Chicken
Said the captain to the bosun
Line up in the Houston Ship Channel
In the middle where it’s chosen
Call that inbound blue water captain
Tell him to line that freighter up right
Now, when I steer left, you steer left
It’s more fun in the middle of the night
Now, Texas Chicken is the dance they do
When big wide ships meet in the middle
Of the Houston Ship Channel two by two
Like playin’ a line dance to a fiddle
That ship channel ain’t wide enough
And your stomach it’s sure to sicken
You need a pilot who’s Texas tough
Steering a ship to the Texas Chicken
Now, the waves at the bow where both ships plow
Pushes them both to the sides of the channel
Then the flow from the stern sucks them back
To the middle when the pilot plays the fiddle
– instrumental –
Hey, let’s play Texas Chicken
Said the captain to the bosun
Line up in the Houston Ship Channel
In the middle where it’s chosen
Call that inbound blue water captain
Tell him to line that freighter up right
Now, when I steer left, you steer left
It’s more fun in the middle of the night
Doin’ the Texas Chicken!
Don’t Be Blue Just Be True (Larry W. Jones 01/29/2007) (song#4363)
When I was young I heard the sound
Of a big ‘ol diesel outward bound
I looked and saw two tall stacks aflame
I waited for what seemed the longest time
One fine day I caught that dream of mine
Let me tell you, I ain’t been the same
Now, don’t be blue, just be true
Baby, I’m a-flyin’ home to you
I’ve been drivin’ in the dark and daylight
But I plan to park in your arms tonight
So, don’t be blue, just be true
Down two lane roads and interstates
I’ve seen a lot both ways
I’ve seen the wrecks and road projects
Everything except a raise
Now, don’t be blue, just be true
Baby, I’m a-flyin’ home to you
I’ve been drivin’ in the dark and daylight
But I plan to park in your arms tonight
So, don’t be blue, just be true
Well, my body’s achin’ and my head is too
My eyes are red from blinkin’ too long
I’ve been thinkin’ of a song for you
Bout something in this picture’s wrong
Now, don’t be blue, just be true
Baby, I’m a-flyin’ home to you
I’ve been drivin’ in the dark and daylight
But I plan to park in your arms tonight
So, don’t be blue, just be true
Don’t be blue, just be true baby
Don’t Ride Your Pony In The Shadows (Larry W. Jones 01/29/2007) (song#4364)
Don’t ride your pony in the shadows
Or you’ll get the blues on the run
Don’t ride your pony in the shadows
Come ride along with me in the sun
Ride with me where they say howdy
Ride along with me in Texas, yes siree
Don’t ride your pony if it’s cloudy
Even though they’ll still say howdy
Ride with me where the ridin’s fun
Come ride along with me in the sun
Just hold the reins and I will guide you
We’ll ride a trail that’s never blue
Don’t ride your pony in the shadows
Or you won’t see the sun shine through
Ride with me where they say howdy
Ride along with me in Texas, yes siree
Don’t ride your pony if it’s cloudy
Even though they’ll still say howdy
Ride with me where the ridin’s fun
Come ride along with me in the sun
Don’t ride your pony in the shadows
Come ride along with me in the sun
You Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes (Larry W. Jones 01/30/2007) (song#4365)
You let the stars get in your eyes
You let the moon break my heart
The love that blooms at night
I found was no more mine at daylight
You let the stars get in your eyes
You kept your heart from me
And now you say you won’t return
Even though you’re the only one I’ll ever love
Too many nights, too many stars
Too many moons must have changed your mind
I was gone too long and you forgot where you belong
When the stars came out you forgot that you were mine
You let the stars get in your eyes
You let the moon break my heart
The love that blooms at night
I found was no more mine at daylight
You let the stars get in your eyes
You kept your heart from me
And now you say you won’t return
Even though you’re the only one I’ll ever love
Too many miles, too many days
Too many nights I left you all alone
Oh, you gave away your heart while we were apart
You lingered in the moonlight when I was gone
You let the stars get in your eyes
You let the moon break my heart
The love that blooms at night
I found was no more mine at daylight
You let the stars get in your eyes
You kept your heart from me
And now you say you won’t return
Even though you’re the only one I’ll ever love
Even though you’re the only one I’ll ever love
When You Get To Texas (Larry W. Jones 01/30/2007) (song#4366)
You will find your dreams begin
The very moment when you get to Texas
You’ll become a romantic cowboy
Country love songs you’ll employ in Texas
Things will often get rowdy
But you’ll learn to say howdy in the Lone Star state
To talk like John Wayne you’ll learn
And then you’ll never return to your former estate
And if you ride to San Antone
There you’ll find no sorrow
You’ll find one to call your own
And many dreams to borrow
You’ll find no regret
And you’ll never forget Texas
There will be music and stars
There will be dancing to steel guitars
Moonlight, music and love in Texas
– instrumental –
And if you ride to San Antone
There you’ll find no sorrow
You’ll find one to call your own
And many dreams to borrow
You’ll find no regret
And you’ll never forget Texas
There will be music and stars
There will be dancing to steel guitars
Moonlight, music and love in Texas
Down The Trail Of Life (Larry W. Jones 02/01/2007) (song#4367)
Dear, we’ll ride the trail of life
Side by side, day by day
Though it be one of joy or strife
We will ride together
Every mile of the way
The trail may be covered
By sunshine or by gloom
Either way I’ll love you
Down the trail of lovers
Guided by the sun or moon
All I ask is your love, dear
Just be my trusting wife
For there’s nothing we need fear
As we ride down the trail of life
– instrumental –
The trail may be covered
By sunshine or by gloom
Either way I’ll love you
Down the trail of lovers
Guided by the sun or moon
All I ask is your love, dear
Just be my trusting wife
For there’s nothing we need fear
As we ride down the trail of life
Rough Sod (Larry W. Jones 02/01/2007) (song#4368
How long, Joe, until Wyoming
Just how long did we sign on for
Gotta keep these dogies roaming
Look out for the longhorn’s gore
The odds aren’t even, I wager
The odds aren’t even, I say
If we ever make it to Wyoming
It will be rough sod the whole long way
Cattle at the border running wild
A bull whip’s order got ’em riled
You know, I’ve seem stampedes before
I’ve seen cowboys bleed, for sure
Hope it ain’t longhorns I’ll be dyin’ for
The odds aren’t even, I wager
The odds aren’t even, I say
If we ever make it to Wyoming
It will be rough sod the whole long way
I hear the trail boss’ six gun
Booming high and awful strong
Can’t wait til this drive is done
Keep those cattle movin’ along
Just how far this day have we ridden
From all the dust I cannot see
I guess I’ll turn my face to Heaven
And just hope that Heaven smiles on me
The odds aren’t even, I wager
The odds aren’t even, I say
If we ever make it to Wyoming
It will be rough sod the whole long way
Long Tall Texan Rides Again (Larry W. Jones 02/01/2007) (song#4369)
Listen to the song of a long, tall man
One who’s known around the world
From way down under to the Rio Grande
Yippie ti yi yo
Now, it was reported that I disappeared
Where that started, I don’t know
But it ain’t supported ’cause I’ve reappeared
Yippie ti yi yo
Been through storms and wind and waves
I’ve felt agony and pain
But Texas was made for the strong and brave
The long, tall Texan rides again
The long, tall Texan rides again
I never did break, though I had to bend
The long, tall Texan rides again
They sent their best bad gang
They all thought that me they’d hang
Then I guess they heard the bang
Of a long, tall man on a wild mustang
The long, tall Texan rides again
Been throwed down, but I got up
Showed ’em all I ain’t no pup
Been underrated, desecrated
But they don’t know how Texans grow
Yippie ti yi yo
The long, tall Texan rides again
I never did break, though I had to bend
The long, tall Texan rides again
They sent their best bad gang
They all thought that me they’d hang
Then I guess they heard the bang
Of a long, tall man on a wild mustang
Yippie ti yi yo
The long, tall Texan rides again
Flowers Around The Tombstone (Larry W. Jones 01/02/2007) (song#4370)
Around the flowered mound of an old ranch hand
Cowered against the wind and the rain I stand
Along with friends who loved him more than gold
The saga of another fine old cowboy’s life is told
Flowers around the tombstone ground are growing
Hear the mournful howl of the cold wind blowing
All his cowboy friends knew that he was going
Gathered all around like flowers on the ground
Some cowboys live their life for spills and thrills
Never with a good deed do their hard hands they fill
Until it’s too late and the cold of death they feel
They never do see the flowers growing on the ground
Before my time comes, I’ll just do the best I can
I’ll follow the cowboy code and extend my hand
And when I’m laid beneath the cold hard ground
Cowboys will gather like flowers growing ’round
– instrumental –
Some cowboys live their life for spills and thrills
Never with a good deed do their hard hands they fill
Until it’s too late and the cold of death they feel
They never do see the flowers growing on the ground
Before my time comes, I’ll just do the best I can
I’ll follow the cowboy code and extend my hand
And when I’m laid beneath the cold hard ground

An Old Hobo Again (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4371)
I listen to the rumble and the lonesome whistle blow
Of another old freight train as it rolls on by so slow
I listen to the clatter and the chatter of the wheels
Only an old hobo like me could ever know how it feels
Hear the freight train whistle blow
Hear the freight train whistle blow
Hear those wheels go clickety clack
As it rumbles slowly down the track
I know there’s an old hobo
Grumbling on his way back
From wherever he’s been down the track
When I hear that freight train whistle blow
And I hear those wheels go clickety clack
I’m an old hobo again who knows he can’t go back
When night time comes, I listen
Even if the time is getting late
I listen for the train of dreams
That old slow moving freight
And when I hear that lonesome sound
That only comes from an outward bound
I become an old hobo again
Hopping that old slow freight train
I know there’s an old hobo
Grumbling on his way back
From wherever he’s been down the track
When I hear that freight train whistle blow
And I hear those wheels go clickety clack
I’m an old hobo again who knows he can’t go back
Across Fields Of Purple Sage (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4372)
You will think of us when the west wind blows
Across fields of purple sage
You will thank the sun as through the sky it goes
When we stroll on the prairie stage
For it was there that we found a love
As the western sun shown down
Across fields of purple sage
And it was you that I put my arms around
When we strolled on the prairie stage
I asked you then to be mine with words only heard
Across fields of purple sage
We said goodbye to the sun in the western sky
When we strolled on the prairie stage
We felt the west wind move like lovers do
Across fields of purple sage
New dreams with meaning were discovered too
When we strolled on the prairie stage
The vows we made, and promises
Were written surely on tomorrow’s page
And we sealed them firmly with a kiss
When we strolled on the prairie stage
When we strolled on the prairie stage
Years have gone since those western summer days
Across fields of purple sage
Now the kids are almost grown and will go their ways
Like we strolled across the prairie stage
You will think of us when the west wind blows
Across fields of purple sage
You will thank the sun as through the sky it goes
When we stroll on the prairie stage
Across fields of purple sage
Across fields of purple sage
Spring Of The Year (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4373)
The cottonwoods are quiet and looking forlorn
Branches and twigs have all their leaves shorn
The snowflakes are big but bring me no cheer
I wish the time was the spring of the year
I remember springtime and eyes of bright blue
I remember sweet words that said I love you
Do you remember two hearts that beat as one, dear
I wish the time was the spring of the year
– instrumental –
I remember springtime and eyes of bright blue
I remember sweet words that said I love you
Do you remember two hearts that beat as one, dear
I wish the time was the spring of the year
Our love was like summer, warm as could be
You promised to return when spring we would see
The snowflakes are big but bring me no cheer
I wish the time was the spring of the year
I wish the time was the spring of the year
What The Jukebox Would Say (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4374)
A jukebox was playing inside the honky tonk door
Every song was saying that I only miss you more
I felt the tears fall as each song it would play
She’s gone away is what the jukebox would say
I didn’t stand in her way, she felt she didn’t belong
That’s what I heard the jukebox say in a sad song
I don’t see how I’ll get through another bad day
She’s gone away is what the jukebox would say
– instrumental –
I didn’t stand in her way, she felt she didn’t belong
That’s what I heard the jukebox say in a sad song
I don’t see how I’ll get through another bad day
She’s gone away is what the jukebox would say
I didn’t stand in her way, she felt she didn’t belong
She’s gone away is what the jukebox would say
She’s gone away is what the jukebox would say
Brand New Old Harvest Moon (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4375)
Harvest moon beams are falling again, dear
A brand new old harvest moon is in the sky
And it brings sweet mem’ries of you, dear
On this new September harvest moon night
Soft moon beams are falling again, love
From that brand new old harvest moon above
The sky is full of old stars shining bright
On this new harvest moon September night
I feel the breeze blow through the trees, dear
And I see the leaves come falling with a sigh
Every single one keeps calling your name, dear
And each one mingles with every tear that I cry
These September harvest moon beams haunt me
Since you left me with the warm Summer wind
They only remind me that you didn’t want me
But each moon beam sees me fall for you again
– instrumental –
I guess I’ll never know where you’ve gone, dear
But I’m sure that you will sometimes think of me
Now, the chill of September comes upon me, dear
As I stand here in the night time Autumn breeze
These new September harvest moon beams haunt me
Since you went and left with the warm Summer wind
They shine to remind me that you didn’t want me
But with every beam I seem to fall for you again
Roll Out The Blue Carpet (Larry W. Jones 02/03/2007) (song#4376)
I’m gonna roll out the blue carpet when you leave
Cause you know your leavin’s gonna make me grieve
I’m gonna have a blues band playin’ at the station
They’re gonna send you off to your new location
Yeah, I’m gonna roll out the blue carpet when you leave
When I see that outbound train departing the quay
I’ll know you won’t be around, you’ve gone away
I didn’t know that you had something up your sleeve
I’m sure gonna miss you every night and day
I’m gonna roll out the blue carpet when you leave
– instrumental –
I wore the soles right outta my shoes over you
I’ve been strolling this old floor because of you
I can hear that outbound train a-comin’, I believe
Even the face on the mantle clock is turning blue
I’m gonna roll out the blue carpet when you leave
Yeah, I’m gonna roll out the blue carpet when you leave
Nine Blue Days (Larry W. Jones 02/02/2007) (song#4377)
There’s nine days which I try to survive
Nine days made of more than nine to five
Nine days as hard as climbing Kilimanjaro
Last week was seven and today ain’t heaven
And day nine will surely come tomorrow
There’s nine days and all of them are blue
Nine days and nine ways of missing you
What good would it do to reach the end
Each of them would find a new way to begin
There’s nine days which I try to survive
Nine days with more than nine to five
Nine days as hard as climbing Kilimanjaro
Last week was seven and today ain’t heaven
And day nine will surely come tomorrow
– instrumental –
There’s nine days which I try to survive
Nine days made of more than nine to five
Nine days as hard as climbing Kilimanjaro
Last week was seven and today ain’t heaven
And day nine will surely come tomorrow
There’s nine days and all of them are blue
Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere Blues (Larry W. Jones 02/03/2007) (song#4378)
Well, I’m plowin’ the field, countin’ the yield
Just settin’ in this John Deere cab all day
Got the radio on, hummin’ a song
Somethin’ bout a guy who went away
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
Now here’s ‘ol Hank singin’ bout a Mansion On The Hill
The only mansion I’ll ever own is the one I never will
Plowin’ the field, countin’ the yield in my worn out tennis shoes
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
– instrumental –
Now here’s ‘ol Hank singin’ bout a Mansion On The Hill
The only mansion I’ll ever own is the one I never will
Plowin’ the field, countin’ the yield in my worn out tennis shoes
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
Now here’s a song bout somebody Settin’ The Woods On Fire
I hope he’s wrong cause that would burn my John Deere tires
I’d turn this radio off but the knob is broke
Here’s another song bout an old freight train blowin’ smoke
Ten hours is enough of cheatin’ hearts and loves you lose
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
I’m gettin the Ferlin Husky Honky Tonk John Deere blues
Flaky Shaky Heart (Larry W. Jones 02/03/2007) (song#4379)
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
Yeah, it’s achy and startin’ to fall apart
I don’t think you ever loved me from the start
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
Last week you told me that you loved me so
This week you’re cold and say you’ve gotta go
I can already feel the quiverin’ start
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
Why don’t you hurry up and make up my mind
Are you gonna be his or gonna be mine
You know a shaky heart can break at any time
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
There’s an old love story and I know it’s true
About true love’s glory and one that’s blue
Now I worry about something breaking in two
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
– instrumental –
Why don’t you hurry up and make up my mind
Are you gonna be his or gonna be mine
You know a shaky heart can break at any time
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
There’s an old love story and I know it’s true
About true love’s glory and one that’s blue
Now I worry about something breaking in two
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
I’ve got a flaky, shaky heart
Return To Sender (Larry W. Jones 02/03/2007) (song#4380)
I watched the mailbox for your letter, dear
Even though I knew it would bring me pain
I was hoping things would be better, dear
But when it came I could feel the rain
Well, I started to open up your letter, dear
Hoping to find words warm and tender
But I knew it had nothing to bring me cheer
So I just wrote under your name
Return to sender
– instrumental –
Yeah, I started to open up your letter, love
To see if there might be any hopeful signs
But I already knew what you were thinking of
Cause I know how to read between the lines
You know, I’d be happy to see you, dear
But I know my chances are less than slender
So, I let your letter be unclaimed, dear
And I just wrote under your name
Return to sender
San Antonio Walls (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4381)
Buenos tardes senorita, you say your name is Anita
I just tied my pony outside in the adobe stalls
Just rode into San Antone and I heard Mexican songs
Coming from within these San Antonio walls
There’s not much light in this little cantina
And the dance floor is just a little arena
But we could pretend it’s a great big dance hall
We can dance all night in these San Antonio walls
El Ranch Grande is the song that they’re playing
Violins and guitars they’re playing real slow
As we dance, I know every silent word you’re saying
Cause I see them all in your dark eyes aglow
Old San Antonio has stood here for ages
It’s the same when shadows begin to fall
You and I are just adding to the pages
Dancing inside these San Antonio walls
– instrumental –

Cowboy You Can Call Your Own (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4382)
I’ve got two lips to kiss and talk to you
I’ve got two hands to hold and walk with you
Don’t let your heart be lonely with no home
I’m just the cowboy you can call your own
I’ll give you true love that will stay with you
I’ll love you every day and call you on the phone
I don’t have a roamin’ heart cause that’s taboo
I’m just the cowboy you can call your own
I’ll bring a reign of gladness, wait and see
There’ll be no sadness when each day is gone
So, end this madness and give your hand to me
I’m just the cowboy you can call your own
– instrumental –
I’ve got two lips to kiss and talk to you
I’ve got two hands to hold and walk with you
Don’t let your heart be lonely with no home
I’m just the cowboy you can call your own
Don’t let your heart be lonely with no home
I’m just the cowboy you can call your own
Takin’ The Short Way Home (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4383)
Well, it’s Monday mornin’ and it’s almost noon
I’ll be holdin’ my darlin’ close real soon
Pour strong the coffee in my coffee cup
I’ll be on the road when I saddle up
I’m gonna roll on down another hundred miles
Just another hundred miles with a covered load
I’m gonna roll on down til I see a hundred smiles
Just another hundred miles on a black top road
I can almost feel your kiss, almost see your face
I’m almost rollin’ faster than the law will grace
The rain is comin’ down, my wheels are makin’ foam
I don’t care cause I’m takin’ the short way home
– instrumental –
Don’t need no more stops for diesel-ine
Windshield wipers keep my windows clean
Burnin’ up the back roads with my tires
Burnin’ up with a load of sweet desires
I can almost feel your kiss, almost see your face
Almost rollin’ faster than the law will grace
The rain is comin’ down, my wheels are makin’ foam
I don’t care cause I’m takin’ the short way home
The rain is comin’ down, my wheels are makin’ foam
I don’t care cause I’m takin’ the short way home
Takin’ the short way home
Takin’ the short way home
Takin’ the short way home
Long Tall Texan With A Long Tall Frame (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4384)
Well, I’m from Texas with a long tall frame
And all the girls wanna know my name
They say I look good, just as good as can be
They all wanna see my long tall frame
Yeah, I’m from Texas and I’ve been around
From big Amarillo to little Sundown
The girls all scream cause they’ve never seen
Nobody else like my long tall frame
Now a cowgirl brought me a low down chair
Said sit down and make myself at home
Now, she had a frame that was kinda square
Didn’t take long and I was long gone
– instrumental –
Well, I’m from Texas with a long tall frame
And all the girls wanna know my name
They say I look good, just as good as can be
They all wanna see my long tall frame
Now, when John Wayne was alive, he could sure contrive
How to win a cowgirl with his Winchester drive
But I’m here to tell ya that’s not the only game
Cowgirls just want a long tall Texan with a long tall frame
Now, m’am I’m pleased that you think I’m Hercules
But I ain’t one to brag or accept acclaim
However, m’am you can ask me out if you’re wild about
A long tall Texan with a long tall frame
Yee Ha!!!
Rollin’ Down That Railroad Track (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4385)
See that locomotive comin’ with a flaming stack
Eight big wheels a-rollin’ down the track
I wonder if he’ll ever be a-comin’ back
From rollin’ and a-rollin’ down that railroad track
I wonder how that ‘ol locomotive engineer feels
With his hand on the throttle burnin’ up the steel
Don’t you know he wouldn’t trade for a Cadillac
Keeping that locomotive a-rollin’ down the track
Twenty flat cars and forty nine box cars too
Enough to make a hobo’s teeth shake a-loose
That locomotive’s loaded but he’s got the juice
Rollin’ down that track like a flyin’ goose
– train whistle and harmonica –
I wonder how that ‘ol locomotive engineer feels
With his hand on the throttle burnin’ up the steel
Don’t you know he wouldn’t trade for a Cadillac
Keeping that locomotive a-rollin’ down the track
One of these days I’m gonna pack my sack
Hop aboard a freight goin’ clickety-clack
I wonder if I’ll ever be a-comin’ back
From rollin’ and a-rollin’ down that railroad track
Rollin’ and a-rollin’ down that railroad track
Rollin’ and a-rollin’ down that railroad track
Rollin’ and a-rollin’ down… [outbound whistle]
Play That Texas Fiddle (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4386)
Play that Texas fiddle, play it for cowboy love
Play it under the Texas moon shinin’ up above
Play that Texas fiddle, play it for cowboy love
I don’t have no worry, I don’t have no care
I’m two-steppin’ in boots floatin’ in the air
Play that Texas fiddle, play it for cowboy love
There’s gonna be weddin’ bells a-ringin’
They’ll play that Texas fiddle down the isle
It’s gonna be a Texas two-step swingin’
When I see my sweet Texas cowgirl smile
– Texas swing fiddle –
There’s gonna be weddin’ bells a-ringin’
They’ll play that Texas fiddle down the isle
It’s gonna be a Texas two-step swingin’
When I see my sweet Texas cowgirl smile
Well, it’s a hey diddle, diddle, Texas kinda fiddle
I’ll meet her in the middle and hear my baby say
Hey, cowboy, I think you’re full of silly riddles
Play that Texas fiddle, play it for cowgirl love
Has Anybody Seen My Cowgirl (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4387)
Five foot nine, lips like wine
Boy oh boy, she sure looks fine
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
Turned up hat, she’s a Texas cat
Nobody else could look like that
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
Now, if you find a five foot nine
Wearin’ cowgirl boots
Wrangler jeans, a honky tonk queen
Lookin’ more that cute
Well, that cowgirl’s mine, so divine
Dance the line in two-step time
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
– Texas swing music –
Five foot nine, lips like wine
Boy oh boy, she sure looks fine
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
Turned up hat, she’s a Texas cat
Nobody else could look like that
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
Now, if you find a five foot nine
Wearin’ cowgirl boots
Wrangler jeans, a honky tonk queen
Lookin’ more that cute
Well, that cowgirl’s mine, so divine
Dance the line in two-step time
Has anybody seen my?
Has anybody seen my?
Has anybody seen my cowgirl?
After Finding You (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4388)
To lots of empty shows I used to go
Lots of useless things I used to do
But they’re all winding down, it’s true
After finding you
My whole life was filled with heartaches
Full of strife and my dreams were blue
Now things are fine, without mistakes
After finding you
– instrumental –
We go to shows that are happy now
And all my skies are colored blue
A blue bird’s singing on the bough
After finding you
Nothing will ever come between us
You vowed that you will love me true
Darling, you’ve got my binding trust
After finding you
After finding you
After finding you
I Feel A Hurt Coming On (Larry W. Jones 02/04/20070 (song#4389)
Well, the Friday night dance is over
Everybody’s saying their last goodbye
I can tell that you no longer want me
And there’s no tears you’re gonna cry
I know I’ll need someone to turn to
Cause I remember being all alone
I’ll need someone to fill this emptiness
Cause I feel a hurt coming on
– instrumental –
I thought my last heartache had ended
Now I’m just numb and cannot feel
Except for this same old lonely feeling
I feel a hurt that’s really real
There’s nothing left inside of me
There’s no will to even carry on
You took love and left me emptiness
And I feel a hurt coming on
Before The Rain (Larry W. Jones 02/04/2007) (song#4390)
I can see the storm clouds gather
Looks like my world is gonna end
A rose without the thorns was better
When love was new way back then
The love we had was sweet together
Back when you were my new bride
But love was lost in bad weather
And the petals on the roses died
After the sunshine comes the storm
Washing the litter down the drain
I wish that things were still as warm
As our love was before the rain
– instrumental –
The love we had was sweet together
Back when you were my new bride
But love was lost in bad weather
And the petals on the roses died
After the sunshine comes the storm
Washing the litter down the drain
I wish that things were still as warm
As our love was before the rain
Palomino (Larry W. Jones 02/05/2007) (song#4391)
Palomino, like gold against the western sky
Galloping over the prairie
To a love of mine
Palomino, with your golden hue
I’m relying on you
To bring a love that’s true
The prairie wind sings a song soft and low
A song that I know
Is in my murmuring heart
Palomino, as the western sun hides behind the trees
Go and find my lover
And bring her here to me
ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh
Palomino…..
Palomino…..
– instrumental –
Palomino, as the western sun hides behind the trees
Go and find my lover
And bring her here to me
ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh – ooh
Palomino…..
Palomino…..
Sweet Memory On My Mind (Larry W. Jones 02/05/2007) (song#4392)
All she can be is a sweet memory
From time to time she drifts through my mind
I know I’ll never see her any more
I’ll never hear her knock on my door
She’s like a shadow that’s come and gone
Just like mist disappears from off the lawn
I still get so lonely from time to time
When a sweet memory drifts through my mind
– instrumental –
All she can be is a sweet memory
A sweet memory that tastes so fine
But she’s as gone as she can be
Except she still lives in my mind
Tonight I’ll go to sleep in sorrow
I’ll try to leave yesterday behind
But I know when I awake tomorrow
I’ll have a sweet memory on my mind
All Of My Brothers Are Boys (Larry W. Jones 02/05/2007) (song#4393)
All of my brothers are boys
They’re gross and everything they do just annoys
A girl needs a friend for time to spend and enjoy
So, why did all of my brothers have to be boys
They fight and they argue a lot
They act like they’re big shots but they’re not
They sound like wild Indians on the war path
And the all stink when they don’t take a bath
All of my brothers are boys
They’re gross and everything they do just annoys
A girl needs a friend for time to spend and enjoy
So, why did all of my brothers have to be boys
When I’m playing house with a girlfriend or two
They jump out of the closet and scare us with Boo!
They bring me no joy when they break all my toys
Just why did all of my brothers have to be boys
All of my brothers are boys
They’re gross and everything they do just annoys
A girl needs a friend for time to spend and enjoy
So, why did all of my brothers have to be boys
Why did all of my brothers have to be boys
Red Rose Of My Heart (Larry W. Jones 02/07/2007) (song#4394)
Here I’m thinkin’ about you, darlin’
Wyoming is way too many miles apart
I’ve been true to you, sweet darlin’
Cause you’re the red rose of my heart
Too many nights I’ve been alone
Far too many trails away from you
I worry about love that’s postponed
And I hope that you’ve been true
I’ll soon be riding back, my darlin’
It’s just too lonely when we’re apart
Yes, I’ll be returning from Wyoming
Cause you’re the red rose of my heart
– instrumental –
Too many nights I’ve been alone
Far too many trails away from you
I worry about love that’s postponed
And I hope that you’ve been true
I’ll soon be riding back, my darlin’
It’s just too lonely when we’re apart
Yes, I’ll be returning from Wyoming
Cause you’re the red rose of my heart
Best To Free My Mind Of You (Larry W. Jones 02/09/2007) (song#4395)
They say the best things in life are free
Like beauty, love and harmony
But what about a love you’ve lost
Someone who said they’d ‘ere be true
Now I know, what ‘ere the cost
It’s best to free my mind of you
I remember way back when
When you said you loved me then
But I forgot to count the cost
Of a dream that turned out blue
In time I found that dream was lost
Now I know, what ‘ere the cost
It’s best to free my mind of you
You said that you loved only me
And that my bride you’d someday be
Love that was warm then turned to frost
Just like the glacier ice turns blue
I’m adrift like ocean waves are tossed
Now I know, what ‘ere the cost
It’s best to free my mind of you
– instrumental –
You said that you loved only me
And that my bride you’d someday be
Love that was warm then turned to frost
Just like the glacier ice turns blue
I’m adrift like ocean waves are tossed
Now I know, what ‘ere the cost
It’s best to free my mind of you
Now I know, what ‘ere the cost
It’s best to free my mind of you
Two Step Toodle (Larry W. Jones 02/09/2007) (song#4396)
Do the two step toodle with a ploy, Roy
Two step toodle with a ploy
Two step toodle with a ploy, Roy
Cowboy Roy, it’s a honky tonk ploy
If you’ve got cares that are most acute
Get out from under that darkened cloud
Get a cowgirl poodle who’s really cute
And do the two step toodle, Roy
It’s a ploy with the honky tonk crowd
Two step toodle with a ploy
Two step toodle with a ploy, Roy
Cowboy Roy, it’s a honky tonk ploy
Get on the floor and do the two step toodle!
– instrumental –
If you’ve got cares that are most acute
Get out from under that darkened cloud
Get a cowgirl poodle who’s really cute
And do the two step toodle, Roy
It’s a ploy with the honky tonk crowd
Two step toodle with a ploy
Two step toodle with a ploy, Roy
Cowboy Roy, it’s a honky tonk ploy
Get on the floor and do the two step toodle!
The One Of Whom I Dream (Larry W. Jones 02/09/2007) (song#4397)
I placed my saddle on the ground
On the only open place I saw
I tied my pony and looked around
At a Colorado scene of awe
I saw the stars gleam like fire
I saw heaven itself, it seemed
Only one other thing could so inspire
And you’re the one of whom I dream
Only one other thing could so inspire
And you’re the one of whom I dream
Camping beside a mountain trail
Where the quaking aspens grow
I heard the call of a woodland quail
Where the mountain breezes blow
I boiled my coffee on an open fire
Beside a flowing valley stream
Knowing what was my one desire
And you’re the one of whom I dream
Knowing what was my one desire
And you’re the one of whom I dream
A lonely whippoorwill in an old pine tree
Sang to me his lowly song
His song and mine seemed to agree
That I’d been alone too long
I dozed off to sleep in the cold of night
Next to the warm camp fire
Missing the one thing my heart requires
And you’re the one of whom I dream
Missing the one thing my heart requires
And you’re the one of whom I dream
Riding Down To The Rio (Larry W. Jones 02/09/2007) (song#4398)
El Rio Grande, old Rio by El Paso
Riding down to the Rio
Where there’s margaritas with salt and lime
Hey cowboy, if you wanna know where there’s joy
Go riding down to the Rio
I was there once upon a time
Love was in the air, El Rio Grande’s waiting there
Under those El Paso Texas skies of blue
I sent a telegram to El Paso
To tell ‘er m’am, I’ll be seeing you soon
I’m gonna ride down there
El Rio Grande, where love holds sway
Today I’m riding down to the Rio and you
– instrumental –
I was there once upon a time
Love was in the air, El Rio Grande’s waiting there
Under those El Paso Texas skies of blue
I sent a telegram to El Paso
To tell ‘er m’am, I’ll be seeing you soon
I’m gonna ride down there
El Rio Grande, where love holds sway
Today I’m riding down to the Rio and you
How I’ll Find You (Larry W. Jones 02/10/2007) (song#4399)
You ask me how I’ll find you, oh my love
In the brightness of a summer day
I’ll follow your shadow from the sun above
Wherever your shadow may convey
You ask how I’ll see you when I find you
If there should not be found the daylight
I will see you where a train whistle blew
At a station platform in the velvet night
You ask how I’ll know you when I find you
For it might be autumn, winter or spring
Whether it be dreary day or sky of blue
I will find you where the bluebirds sing
– instrumental –
You ask how I’ll know you when I find you
For it might be autumn, winter or spring
Whether it be dreary day or sky of blue
I will find you where the bluebirds sing
You ask me if I’ll love you when I find you
Your questions are answered one by one
With all my heart and soul I’ll love you
Until all of my life and times are done
Honky Tonk Nights In Austin (Larry W. Jones 02/10/2007) (song#4400)
I’ve seen honky tonk nights in Austin
I paid my dues with Texas country stars
I’ve seen the bright lights of Austin
Pickin’ country blues on a lead guitar
The moon and stars are shining bright over Texas
Over where the old Colorado River flows
Listen to old George Strait sing about his exes
Straight from Austin on my old truck radio
– instrumental –
I’ve seen honky tonk nights in Austin
Cowboys with cowgirls in their eyes
They don’t turn out the lights in Austin
And nobody in Texas would even try
The moon and stars are shining bright over Texas…
– steel and fiddle –
I’ve seen honky tonk nights in Austin
I can remember back how it all began
Some cowboy sang a sad song in Austin
And a honky tonk played his song again
The moon and stars are shining bright over Texas
Over where the old Colorado River flows
